Yeah. I am going to do a speed run of this game, but not sure about a TAS, I have to think about two things.
    * If it is possible to make a TAS * Getting a ROM to an emulator * Finding a better emulator (better than WiiZip)
That is three things :(

On a related note, Super Mario Galaxy 2 runs fine in Dolphin. Anyone want to take a crack at getting a TAS done before the game even comes out?

I enjoy seeing how Luigi can sometimes escape the gravity field of all of the planets and then get pulled toward the outside, ending with a poof and a "TOO BAD!": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiR-lBjwbW0

Sadly, the creator of that previous video is gone; however, an RTS was just posted, and I wonder how good this route would be in a TAS: http://speeddemosarchive.com/demo.pl?MarioGalaxy_61star_Luigi_22523

Since I have the PAL and NTSC-J version i'm thinking of having a test around with Dolphin. Obviously I'm just going to do one of the to as a straight out any% I will try and muck around with 2nd player support. Also ontop of this I'm actually possibly going to kill myself doing a 200% of this game single segment as an RTA speedrun. Wish me luck XD

Wii Remote recording doesn't work, but you might still be able to make a test run using the natural slow speed of Dolphin (savestates will desync the movie).

Save states work mostly fine, that's not the problem. Wiimote recording will desync even without save states.

I suppose making a "TAS" at 15% speed wouldn't be a good idea anyway, since it would probably look too similar to the fastest real-time speedrun. An optimized TAS of this game would have frame savings everywhere and look quite different from the real-time run.

If you hit the curb you can go higher (Bit captain obvious there). Anyways because this wasn't discussed only things being tossed was Luigi. How about 5 different categories for this game: 120 stars Mario/Luigi, 70 stars Mario/Luigi (any%) and 242 stars Mario & Luigi (200%). Also what would the 120 stars be called if 242 is 200% and 70 stars is straight off any%?

I don't see the point of having a 120 stars Mario or Luigi run... It would be shorter than a 242 stars, sure, and it would be easier for people who only want to watch the Luigi run, but wouldn't 90% of these runs be the same as the 242 stars Mario & Luigi ?

90% sounds wrong, Luigi has more tricks up his sleeve compared to his brother as Luigi can break the game more than Mario.

I think you misinterpreted that. I don't think he means that Mario's stars are the same as Luigi's stars, but that if you make a 242 star run, Mario's stars in that run would be the same as Mario's stars in his 120 star run. The same goes for Luigi. So I think yes, a 242 star run would already have all the content of both a Mario 120 star run and a Luigi 120 star run. So not really any point in the latter two.

Well, they'd be marginally easier to hex-edit, wouldn't they? :)

Um... I call shots for this game. I have played this game every day of my life (almost) finding tons of glitches and timesavers and things since the game came out. Although, as technical things go, it is better TAS etiquette (in my opinion) to do any full game TAS whatsoever starting and the power on of the game, which means that you should not "start with Luigi" as some of you are proposing. I don't mean to be critical or mean in any way here, this is just my point of view in all of this. A 61 Star TAS should be done only with Mario, or else the TAS wouldn't seem right to me. Same for 121 star. Do Mario, then Luigi, then the last star. By all means, no matter what you guys do, the ColdStardust team is directing our own 121 star and 61 star TASes of this game, and if you make a TAS before we do, we will try to make it better. We will start the project right when we hear that the sync for the game is fixed. Anyway, I don't mean to bug you guys, but I'd like you to wish me luck, please. I wish you guys luck too! :)
How can I help you King Dedede? I need a monster that can help me get Kirby. That´s what we do best at NME. You better give it with a money-back guarantee!

We are going to make our own website about us, and inside we will put information about the 121 star and 61 star runs, but one example is in the center of the universe on the last planet fighting Bowser, once he sends out those rings from stomping on the ground, he starts rolling, get hurt by one of the rings on purpose. He stops and goes ahead and does the jump on you so you can make him jump on the circle and so on and so forth throughout the battle. Thats one that even yoshifan didn't use.

Isn't Luigi able to jump higher or something like that? If they have equally the same abilities, then I don't see why you would need Luigi but I am sure there was a strong reason why Yoshifan used him in his speedrun. If that is the case then it's pretty strange you would go with Mario. Though with the recent development at tasvideos, I wouldn't be surprised if they accepted both a Luigi and a Mario 61star run.

Could you be more specific about this? I am curious to know what you mean. Anyway, whenever you and your team start tasing this game, I wish you the best!

This seems to already be known. It sounds a lot like what can be found here: http://speeddemosarchive.com/MarioGalaxy.html
Bowser phase 3: for some reason, if Bowser is doing his rolling attack and you get hit by something other than his rolling, Bowser will start his jumping attack.
It looks like he did do this actually: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se_GnkrOiUg&list=PL872A3F56C81A2D19&feature=player_detailpage#t=330s

Well it looks like someone actually did find that then. Sorry about that, I didn't check recent updates. Well, I still will do the TAS, and I can just imagine how entertaining it will be, since once it works, I will still have the free will to do so.

If I were to make a TAS of Super Mario Galaxy 1 or 2 what do you think would be better? I am not guaranteeing I will ever finish this project or even start it btw.
