also,i dont have a wii to test it,because i've played this game on my cousin's house.but if you constantly press down with the penguin suit you can slide without ice...is this useful?i believe it may be faster in a few areas(mostly the horizontal ones)
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

I have two videos if anyone is still planning one of these. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3BGl3v3tts This one is an IL of 1-1 using Starman and Penguin suit. The penguin suit seems to be as fast or just slightly slower then the starman when you first start out, and conserves momentum from hills when jumping. I don't know how much I slow down because my jumps weren't all perfect but even off the ice if you jump the first possible frame you can probably keep starman speeds just using the penguin suit through most levels. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcXd4hcd9PY This video is my current record for any%. From Mario control to Bowser's switch it is 25:31. I had a shaky start but ended fine. I'm re-working parts of world 8 for my improvement since I found a trick in 8-2 my top time there has increased from 817 to 822. I believe it is impossible to skip the plant in world 5 without dying or having passed it already. The vines have a set pattern and the plant moves when you go into its area. If you can find a way to manipulate it into a skip I'd love to see though. There are more things on my channel, currently I'm working on an improvement to my any% cannonless and working on a set of videos for IL runs through the levels. For 100% I have a 2-6 video that gets all the star coins while skipping the platforms. Also as a side note I'm pretty sure you can do wall-jumps like in old SMB games I'll need to check my recordings but I think I got a few on camera.

I'm very interrested in doing this game's TAS but the Wii TASing isn't yet perfect, even though it's greatly improving. The problem is when it comes to input about the Wiimote sensor, the replay will simply desynch. For now the only possible Wii games to TAS are those who don't need anything about the Wii sensor.

The sensor syncs just as well as the other buttons. Which is not at all. The only wii games that can be tased atm are ones that use a gamecube controller. Or if you reaaaaally want to, you could use older versions where wiimote recording synced better. Though that will still desync frequently, and you won't have read only, etc etc.

No it's not. Wiimote recording is worse than it used to be.

Uhm, well I actually managed to TAS Super mario Wii. My desynch occured only when I was using the sensors.

The one you recommend, 516.

Well, everything that's not in-game can't be TASed just by using re-records. When I did, it crashed. Therefore, I put down the few inputs I had to do to TAS the menu screen all the way until I get to stage 1-1, and after then I could use re-records without any problem.

I have never gotten a crash in nsmb =/ Also, you've tried playing back from the start? Because it usually syncs fine with read only, but desyncs constantly when played from the start.

Just in case, I have the PAL ISO of NSMB. Yes, I replayed from the start and it succesfully synched. I was attempting frame-perfect moves to make sure it was synching, and it worked well at the top of it. Again, it's when using the sensor that the file desynchs.

I'd be surprised if this made any difference, but i guess it's possible. How far did you get without a desync?

Speed is a float at offset 15e39ac. X position is 11fdf64 (4 bytes). Y position is 11fdf74 (4 bytes). And at 154e282 there is a completely useless 2 byte counter that counts how many frames you have been moving for, resetting any time you stop. Running down slops has a higher acceleration, but lower max speed than sliding down, so it's fastest to start running then go into a slide mid way down. I lied, i forgot to hold right while sliding. It doesn't matter where you hit a flagpole, it always takes exactly the same time to get down.

Uhmmm. I'm trying to use revision .617 to record a TAS on the game, but the replay keeps on crashing on the first input. Any advice? switch back to .516?

Thanks but I didn't read anything on it. I'm obviously missing something.

To me getting the propeller shroom looks a lot slower in your WIP than in the speedrun.

It's way slower. You slide down there at ~2.85 speed, whereas jumping leaves you at 3. Sliding down steep slops like that is significantly slower than jumping past them. Interestingly, you start to speed up to 3.5+ speed at the very end of the slope, but it's still way slower, and you can't actually get that as by the time you hit that speed, you're too far to get on top of the blocks. The way i get the propeller is definitely optimal. edit: after further examination of his 1-1, it is absolutely horrible. He jumps around on the moving platforms without regards to how they speed/slow him up/down, he slides down slops he should jump over, and runs down ones he should slide on. I'm amazed he finished the level before the timer reached 453.

The reason it looks slower is not the initial jump over to the blocks but rather what comes after the ground pound. In the speedrun it looks like he recovers from the ground pound much faster and starts accelerating earlier.

Ugh, yeah, you can jump right out of the ground pound. Should save ~21 frames. Thanks.

Hey rog, I'd like to TAS this game as well, can you help me out setting up the memory position of mario (X and Y)? I finally managed to get no issue with TASing, thanks to renebalow who just sent me his dolphin =).
