I have no way of testing this on my mac, sorry: http://gamehacking.org/?s=bsfree2&sys=15&gid=6789&o=1 I'm assuming you already found this site (first thing that came up when I googled "japanese wind waker action replay"). In the offchance you didn't, maybe it'll help. At the very least, these codes don't match up with NTSC-U or PAL codes that I've found.

Thank you, I guess it didn't appear to me that I could google for it... oops. None of those are of use though, there's "infinite magic" but it matches with Coolkirby's code, which I can't get to work - magic runs out while it's on. Cafde gave me a "forest water expires" code, btw. I'm thinking maybe I can use the invisible wall to eject me into and through the barrier wall... no luck so far.

Bleh, I compared it to the "max magic" code. Sorry. I guess the best option might be to test things on an NTSC-U version of the game. Unappealing, I know.

After finding out the wall above the railing is lower on J? That would be silly.

@Acheron86: The point of testing on the NTSC-J version is to see if I can find anything new that could be exploited. Or any version differences.. I already did hours of glitch hunting on NTSC-U. @rog: What's your point? @cafde_: I'll get to checking those out, thank you

Mugg, if you find just about any tricks, I'll restart on NTSC-J. Since we don't use the chest under Grandma's house, it doesn't seem like NTSC-J is much worse than NTSC-U, and the text speed up would be so nice. I really like how low the railing is on J, saves a bunch of magic. Also, here's an idea I was thinking of. I'm at school so I can't get on #zelda, so i'll ask here. Do you think that getting a fairy while at mother and child, and using it for grandma to get elixer would be worth it? I'm not sure if there would be any better places, but that double damage seems really appealing considering I don't need to worry about taking damage with savestates. I was thinking of getting an extra bottle on my way from greatfish to nfi, but I don't see too much of a point because I wouldn't be able to get a fairy from an ideal place, unless I would waste time going into nfi before ff1, which I don't see as being realistic. Well, whatever. Schools almost out so I'll be on #zelda soon.

I dropped you a message at #zelda but I can also tell you here, I don't have much knowledge in this game so I can't help you with your question. I don't know if double damage is worth going for.

do you want to know how much time it saves on all boss battles to see if it's worth it?i think you can only heal grandma after greatfish isle cutscene,so nobody has used it on gohma and kalle demos yet(the bosses before the cutscene on a normal playthrough),so we don't have the souped strats for these battles. You have to decide on skipping helmaroc king(you will do it right?will you hover to ganon cutscene or skip the spikes on the battle with helmaroc king?this also has to be timed!)
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

I have no idea when you can get soup. We had this idea earlier but it kinda slipped out of our minds, so I'm glad it got brought up again. For anyone who isn't aware, you can drink soup an infinite number of times if you switch it out in the menu just before drinking it (I think that's how you do it?) I don't know which bosses it would help with. Presumably not DRC or Forbidden Woods bosses? Does it only work once per loading zone, or how does that work? Maybe it would be helpful in savage labyrinth. We will use forest water in forbidden woods, and then grab it again when getting Makar for Wind Temple for Cabana Deed skip. We need another bottle if we want to have soup from Wind Temple onwards. I don't know which is fastest at the moment. Bottle Locations (from GameFAQs) 1) In Dragonroost Island, the bird girl gives this to you after you have thrown her up on the ledge. You can't proceed without it. (Costs about 2:45) 2) Out at sea, there's a submarine that has bokoblins and rats inside. Kill them and get the bottle in the chest. 3) Using Beedle's chart, go to the square on the map where one of the faces is wearing a mask. Inside this merchant boat, buy the bottle for 500 rupees. (500 rupees = 2:00) 4) Once the girls in the Forsaken Fortress are free, find one girl at night and follow her so she can't see you to a safe. Quickly talk to her once she starts to put in the combination. Select the top option while talking every time to get the bottle. (Costs about 2:15 after talking to her. Side trip and getting to her is another 30 seconds. Having it nighttime would have to be planned around.) The soup can be grabbed before Jabun in the route. I confirmed this in my testing, having skipped early game cutscenes.

I was thinking get it and use it once. I believe it never wears off even from loading zones.

Boss fights aren't really where double damage shines. Molgera and Helmaroc King (first phase) both don't take double damage and Kalle Demos can already be one cycled. It would probably save the most time in Hyrule 1 along with a few other places. But fighting is not even where it saves the most time since it acts as a magic refiller. For trials skip (mentioning this in particular since it saves a ton of time) you'll want either double magic or some way to refill the magic meter so soup seems like the obvious choice. For a second bottle I'd say the Medli bottle on the first dragon roost visit since it's on the way and needs no rupee planning for buying it from beedle. The windfall bottle could be an option? I'm not sure how long it takes to follow the girl all the way around vs. the one on dragon roost. One perk to having a second bottle in a forest water route is when you switch out the soup for another item, you can use the expired water and it will become half a bottle of soup. So you just need to drink that one when you need it again and you'll have an empty bottle for forest water again.

It wears off when you save and quit, and you'll be taking damage to zombie hover at some points.

medli bottle plz,it's required to complete the route anyway, right?(unless you skip helping her using the leaf, but it's so fast...).it 'won't wear out besides save and qui or damage,so it speeds up savage labyrinth A LOOOOOT. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zzZbacyC20&feature=plcp&context=C4fe6205VDvjVQa1PpcFOCdk5D3roYsslbz6jzYBYj8DB1zX0TQnA%3D i think he used storage somehow and got up there, this skips the hookshot requirement so you may do overlook island earlier than expected...if it really is faster, how many times do we use forest water to glitch stuff anyway?

Forest Water skips Forbidden Woods: (Multiple minutes saved) Forest Water acquired after Wind temple in current route skips Cabana Deed. (Multiple minutes saved) It takes about 1 minute to go out of your way and get forest water, so any use must save over 1 minute to even be worth considering. Light arrows is too difficult to time and may only save around 20 seconds if perfectly executed, so it is removed from the route until it becomes very well polished. I already stated that grabbing water at any time before Wind Temple for Cabana would waste too much time to be worthwhile to grab again for Light Arrows skip, so a theoretical light arrow skip via forest water would require forest water to be grabbed after cabana chart (If there are even 20 minutes of game time left before light arrows.) Going to overlook island (or many of the other islands he walks up) early would not save over a minute. We can get the items required (hookshot) and go later at the cost of minimal superswim time.

Current island strats aren't really up for debate. Unless there is really good proof or you've done testing, this route is going to stick for a while. For the soup, I don't think there has been testing on how early it can be gotten, but that isn't really important, as endless night is a known trigger, and at that time we will have forest water. Thinking about this elixer crap makes me think that it has to be faster. Bottle Locations: 1) Medli: Most likely fastest 2) Bomb Island Sub: Get it 3) Beetle Shop: No way. This would require an extra trip for rupees, as it costs more than a tingle chart. 4) Windfall: Very slow. Probably slower than Beetle Shop, as it is stealth and requires waiting for the girl. Pros of Bottle/Elixer: 1) Possibly faster bosses 2) Much faster enemies, specifically for Savage Labyrinth 3) Refill magic, also for Savage Labyrinth, Trials skip, much easier magic strats 4) What Cafde said, use it to overwrite plain water. Time costs: 1) Catching faiy 2) Possible extra Outset trip 3) Dialog with Grandma 4) Tiny bit from every use 5) Also have to think of usage of X Y and Z buttons needing to be switching items The most ideal time to do this would be to get it while going to Outset for the Savage Labyrinth, I guess.

After getting the Master sword, it is now confirmed to be possible to skip both electric fields, thus skipping the huge fight with the knights and moblins. I don't know if the game might lock up later or not, due to this skip... EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2VXn5f8r4g

How much faster is that than a regular fight though? It took a while to do that.

So considering that barriere skip is probably never going to happen, maybe we should think about other ideas that could shave off some time. So, what did crash when getting EMS again and could we potentially find a way around it?

I think this is right, though I'm not 100% sure. Someone said pulling the master sword is a story advancing trigger. If you don't do FF1, the boat won't spawn and the game will crash entering Hyrule 1 If you do FF2 before Hyrule 1, then this happens: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vODpzjNc0M Also this happens: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xr4SW2mcJ5w

So the barriere just doesn't budge. I concur with Parax, this game sucks. Has anybody ever tried on the japanese version and/or skipping the darknuts with hovering? I doubt it makes a difference, though the japanese version might. Maybe it doesn't need the mastersword trigger. Who knows... Is there any way that we could possibly start (and optimally complete) the triforce quest without doing earth and wind temple? Skipping those two temples would also shave off some time. Edit: Hmm could you maybe deku leaf over to the master sword and thus keep the zelda cutscene from starting until you get there? Maybe it's solid before that cutscene starts? Just speculation ofcourse...

How much has this glitch been tested? In fact, is there a documentation of this game's glitches and it's effects?
