i also lurk SRK forums(for fighting games) and they make sure the first posts of the threads are filled with current info about the characters or games,so people don't have to search the whole thread for the current data on the game.is it possible for us to use that format also? is it a matter of the mods doing it,should we start the threads with blank posts, can we rearrange it now,or do we need an actual forum change?
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

It does seem like the per-game threads are rather long and unwieldy at times.

Well, then there are Game Resources pages that are suited for all sorts of information about games. Unfortunately, those pages aren't updated that often (anybody with editor role or above can update those, as can those with player rank).

The difficulty with keeping data in the forum is that only mods and the thread creator can modify the first post in a thread. Oftentimes the thread creator is long gone (we have threads that have been around for most of a decade), and the mods don't have the time to keep every thread up to date, or even just the more popular threads. The wiki would be better; we just need more people to contribute. Right now the wiki's pretty low-profile, which means people don't pay attention to it and it gets out of date. A shame.

Pretty much this. I'd like to add that pretty much anyone can get editor rights just by asking. There are tons of other jobs for admins, moderators, judges, and publishers, that get filled first, so anyone willing to step forward, please do! Also, for the really long threads, there are often other sites that have a better wealth of information available. Such as SM64.org, or Zelda Speed Runs.

I have long thought it to be a good idea to be able to open up forum posts for others. e.g. by whitelisting them, or by permitting everybody to edit the post. You'd need some kind of wiki-style history function to avoid abuse. That would be nice, for sure.

It is also worth noting that any published author automatically gets the right to edit and add game resources pages. My hope was that published authors could utilize the game resources pages to 'document' what they learned.

I'd like to see our site have this kind of information as well. I'm certainly open to it.
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects

Perhaps this could be expressed more clearly to authors, along with a suggestion that any contributions to such pages are greatly appreciated?

Speaking of asking, you can probably also get an idea of what the latest tricks are just by asking TASers for a "state of the run address". It might be time consuming, but I for one would be overjoyed to hear that someone is anticipating my run and would gladly answer any questions.

Hey, maybe on Wiki: Login it can tell players they're able to and encouraged to edit pages in Wiki: GameResources?
