In March 2004 - The nesvideos page (html only) was loaded 46921 times, creating 1 GB of traffic. - Common words used in search were "bisqwit", "nes games", "nes speed runs", "nes videos", "speed runs" and so on. "bisqwit" was searched 502 times. - Hourly, most activity happens at midnight EET and least activity happens at 10am EET. - Globally on my webserver, there was 533247 hits, 4.3 GB of traffic, with average of 716 hits per hour. This doesn't include the load caused by the forum, the kanjidict or the user pages. The nesvideos page and the resources linked by it (torrent files, css, subpages) dominate the counter. - On the image server, there was 9 GB of traffic, which is a sum of 64031 hits. This includes also the traffic caused by this forum. [Edit: April statistics completed] In April 2004: - The nesvideos page (html only) was loaded 99262 times, creating 2.8 GB of traffic. - Common words used in search were the same as in the previous month. - Activity peak happens still at midnight, and lowest activity is at midday. - Globally on my webserver, there was 735316 hits, 7.9 GB of traffic, with average 1021 hits per hour. This doesn't include the load caused by the forum, the kanjidict or the user pages. The nesvideos page and the resources linked by it (torrent files, css, subpages) dominate the counter. - On the image server, there was 29 GB of traffic, which is a sum of 5436186 hits (gasp!). This includes also the traffic caused by this forum. The BitTorrent tracker remembers 3.2 terabytes (3307 gigabytes) of traffic for all the files that are currently shared. This does not include past versions of movies, and it includes all the successfully completed avi file loads (peer-to-peer). There is no time range. That's a *lot*. I'd gladly say "thank you", but nobody pays me for traffic. I'm just lucky that it isn't the opposite.

Heh heh. I'm like 100 of those searches for Bisqwit. My browser sucks and keeps on deleting the history so I just go to google and search Bisqwit. Too lazy to put it in my favorites. Good job though. That's a lot of hits. This site is cool. :)

should ask someone with BBB (swe) to host it instead-- maybe could be faster and you wouldn't have to pay for the bandwidth :x

I don't think he is paying anything extra because of the high traffic. That is, even if his traffic dropped to 1/100 of what it's currently, it would cost him exactly as much as now...

Not significantly. Since the story didn't hit the /. main page, the links are rarely accessed. Maybe only two or three times the usual traffic. Though - I'm seeing a continuous flood of lines in the image server access log... Hope they won't get mad at me at work :)

Yea I'd like to see stats for the tracker's seeds, as well as the ratio for users .... although the tracker serves its purpose, it'd be nice to regocnize those that help out seeding and spread the load. All-in-all, the site is good, otherwise it wouldn't get that kind of attention. Bisqwit: what are the top 5 referring URLs... are they all search engines?

http://bisqwit.iki.fi:6969/ BitTorrent users are always anonymous - there is no per-user statistics. As for referring URLs, top 5 are: 1. Direct request (no referer) 2. http://nes.greatstreamingvideo.com/ (yes, this obsolete address does dominate) 3. http://home.comcast.net/~arcthelad/ (Arc's site, same as above) 4. Google search 5. http://www.nintendo-inside.jp/news/136/13656.html

This must vary by software...I got into a wee bit of trouble because I used BitTorrent to download something I shouldn't have. They knew my IP address and contacted my ISP.

Wow, 5th most popular referrer is a Japanese site? I told you we should cater to them more often ^_^

BitTorrent tracker statistics were just reset because of unknown reason.

Yeah, that's happened 2x probably because of interruption of the thread while saving the state file. Now, I am probably NOT in the majority here, but to keep that from happening again, i'd vote for an inclusion of the new files to prevent that (reset) from happening again. I honestly dont mind for the auto-seeder to come up after "this file is not authorized" is cleared when the state file is updated. An extra 15-20 mins makes little difference to me before a download. But as I said, i'm probably int the minority here. Any thoughts? edit: a quote came to me from the famous Guthy_Renker people "set it ....and forget it" :) As for the referrals, thanks.

Well, morimoto is well-known in the speedrun/time-attack circles. Here is a link to the BBS. As for Morimoto, hatena @ my first viewing of the awesome SMB3j video. That piqued my interest in these videos, and the rest as they say "is history."

It's June, Summer, Yay! It's time for some webserver statistics again. In May 2004 - The nesvideos page (html only) was loaded 98257 times, creating 3.4 GB of traffic. - Common words used in search were "bisqwit", "nes time attack", "time attack", "nes speed runs", "nes superplay" and so on. "bisqwit" was searched 376 times. - Globally, the most common words were "chrono trigger rom" and "tales of phantasia rom". This has been going on for a year. Yes, the ROM searchers still beat us. - Hourly, most activity happens at 23pm EET (average 1269 hits per hour) and least activity happens at 10am EET (average 800 hits per hour). - Globally on my webserver, there were 753833 hits, 6.5 GB of traffic, with average of 1013 hits per hour. This doesn't include the load caused by the forum, the kanjidict or the user pages. The nesvideos page and the resources linked by it (torrent files, css, subpages) dominate the counter. - On the image server, there was 24 GB of traffic, which is a sum of 6262720 hits. This includes also the traffic caused by this forum. Phil's work for replacing the JPG images with PNG images decreased the traffic by about 60% at the last third of the month. - Traffic spikes on my server were at 7th day (50k hits, I don't remember why) and 27th day (59k hits, because of Suprnova). Every saturday, including the 29th day, had about 6-8 k hits only. Saturdays are silent days for some reason. The Bittorrent tracker remembers 3.27 TiB of completed peer-to-peer transfers since its reset at May 9th or something. 60% of this traffic came in two days because of Suprnova. As for domains, the top 10 domains from which the hits come from are as follows: .net .com unresolved .fi .jp .se .ca .edu .nl .fr In referer statistics, there is nothing very interesting. Arc's page is the clearly most common referer after direct requests. Edit: Note, the average of "24k hits per day" does not contradict with "98k hits per month". The per-day hit counter includes all .torrent files, stylesheets etc. The per-month counter was only for the main nesvideos html page.

In June 2004 - The pages of the Nesvideos site were loaded about 113000 times, creating about 3 GB of traffic. - Common words used in search were "bisqwit", "famtasia", "nes time attack", "time attack" and "nes superplay. "bisqwit" was searched 423 times. - Globally, the most common words were "chrono trigger rom" and "tales of phantasia rom". This is still going on. - Hourly, most activity happens at midnight (average 1127 hits per hour) and least activity happens at 11am EET (average 685 hits per hour). - Globally on my webserver, there were 636122 hits, 6.0 GB of traffic, with average of 883 hits per hour. - On the image server, there was 11 GB of traffic, which is a sum of 5733754 hits. - Saturdays were silent days. In July 2004 - The pages of the Nesvideos site were loaded about 260000 times, creating about 1.5 GB of traffic. - Common words used in search were "bisqwit", "nes time attack", "time attack" and , "famtasia". "bisqwit" was searched 600 times. - Globally, the most common words were "tales of phantasia rom" and "anime". - Hourly, most activity happens at midnight (average 1687 hits per hour) and least activity happens at 3pm EET (average 865 hits per hour). - Globally on my webserver, there were 909777 hits, 13.7 GB of traffic, with average of 1222 hits per hour. The traffic mostly comes from anime episodes I've sent to my friend. - On the image server, there was 4.9 GB of traffic, which is a sum of 2544247 hits. - Saturdays were silent days. The new site layout has greatly reduced the bandwidth usage with increased number of pages loaded per visit.

Wow. It's cool that more people are visiting the site every month, and it's even cooler that the re-design has actually reduced the bandwidth used. Great job, Bisqwit! And thank you for making all this available to others.

In August 2004 - The pages of the Nesvideos site were loaded about 220000 times, creating about 1.6 GB of traffic. - Common words used in search were "bisqwit", "famtasia", "nes time attack" and "nes videos". - Globally, the most common words were "chrono trigger rom" and "tales of phantasia rom". Maybe I should remove http://bisqwit.iki.fi/ctfin/rom.php and http://bisqwit.iki.fi/topfin/rom.php some time in future... - Hourly, most activity happens at 22 EET (average 1341 hits per hour) and least activity happens at 13 EET (average 769 hits per hour). - Globally on my webserver, there were 777336 hits, 5.2 GB of traffic, with average of 1044 hits per hour. - On the image server, there was 5.0 GB of traffic, which is a sum of 2501900 hits. - Saturdays were silent days. The ratio of MSIE users seems to be steadily decreasing, while Mozilla browsers are gaining favor. In April, MSIE users had 4.4 times more hits than Mozilla users, but in August, they had only 2.7 times. This change has been going on the whole this year. Opera users are somewhat rarer.

Interesting- it's somewhat contradictory that the site got more traffic during the summer, but saturdays are still the slow days. I'm always interested by these.

In October 2004 - The pages of the Nesvideos site were loaded about 194000 times, creating about 1.4 GB of traffic. - Hourly, most activity happens at 18 EET (average 1831 hits per hour) and least activity happens at 13 EET (average 1006 hits per hour). - Globally on my webserver, there were 1012023 hits, 6.1 GB of traffic, with average of 1360 hits per hour. - On the image server, there was 5.9 GB of traffic, which is a sum of 2229321 hits. - Saturdays were silent days, and traffic spikes happened in 1st (friday), 11th (monday) and 19th (tuesday). 600k users of MSIE 6, 278k users of Mozilla. Five most sought things on my site: "anime", "chrono trigger rom", "famtasia", "bisqwit" and "tales of phantasia rom". "nes videos" comes tenth, right after "uchiha". .jp (Japan) has raised to the fourth most frequently seen domain in the access logs, dropping .se (Sweden) to the fifth place. .fi (Finland) is seventh. The first three are .net, .com and unresolved ip address.
