Which fights? In the Japanese version we skip some of the starbean chasing, some of Joke's End and all of Bowser's Castle. So we are only skipping the koopaling and Fawful battles.

TAS WIP 1 (vbm) Next part may take a while, since I need to figure out if I can make Dragondarch's Cackletta strategy work with 1# trousers (or similar pants that give Mario or Luigi priority). If yes, I need to buy the corresponding pants for one or both brothers, thus requiring me more money so I need to collect more mushrooms. If not, it means that I will only collect the 19 (or 20) mushrooms up till Fungitown that I planned to get; The final Cackletta would have me expose the heart twice, which is unfortunate, but if I can't make Dragondarch's strategy work, nothing can be done about it.

Use VBA-24-M (the one currently at the top of the list). It fixes the sprite-flickering, emulation lag, glitched graphics screen in WooHoo Hooniversity and the Peach guiding emulation glitch.

WIP 2 (vbm) (up until beginning of the Mountain) Stardust field battles done (3x 2 Fighter Fly, 2 Bill Blaster; 1x Tolstar). I did well manipulating lucky hits, though I couldn't manipulate one in the second battle where it could have been useful. It's only slightly slower though. Each of the normal battles dropped 2 mushrooms so I can skip 3 mushrooms that I planned to collect until Fungitown, saving some seconds. I manipulated 2 lucky hits in the Tolstar battle so I didn't have to use Luigi's Bounce Bros. Also, the games uses several stat bonus roulettes (on a level-up) so "+3" can be missing sometimes. Getting the roulette with "+3", as well as lucky hits, enemies' attacks and item drops can all be manipulated by starting a battle at a different frame. I can boost by jumping inside of people in the Mountain village, but I can't really manipulate the directions they are going. On my item list I noted 2 mushrooms with only 0.8 seconds detour time, somewhere after Fungitown (hopefully before Hermie), but I couldn't locate them again... If I can't find out where I get to collect them, I have to collect 2 more mushrooms before Fungitown. :/

0x02001e60 and 0x02001e64 (especially the latter one) seem to be RNG-related addresses. Basicly, they decrement slowly when there are enemies or people moving around on the screen. Interestingly, those addresses decrement at a steady rate when you are on the item select in your inventory. So far, these addresses are known to control (or be related to) enemy / people movement on the overworld and location of the orbs in Hohooros' minigame. However, as I explained already, lucky hits, item drops, bonus roulettes etc. are determined by what frame you start a battle. Lucky hits, enemy attacks in battle, item drops can also change if you choose to use a different set of attacks in battle. EDIT: 0x02001e64 increases by 4 every time it's called. It should be an easy job figuring out how to get the best luck with the set-up I got, for the Hohooros minigame. EDIT: It isn't as easy as I expected. I made a list of all the possibilities that values that are multiple of 4 can yield, and it changes on the second and third run-through. Also, even though I saw some promising results while doing it, I still had to spinjump at least twice, spinjumping not at all or only once seems to be pretty rare if not impossible.

Feeling like dumping some info... Before I went on with the mine carts minigame, I investigated the route a little more, and now concluded that I collected a sufficient amount of mushrooms already - in other words, my list on what mushrooms I get is slightly flawed. Theory: Arrive in fungitown, give luigi lucky badge, buy mario a mushbadge, sell everything except mushrooms. (The testrun has the following discrepancies from this: it collects 2 more syrups and doesn't sell the pea badge, E: it sells the bros rock - the TAS isn't going to collect it.) I have now 1170 coins, and buy 58 mushrooms. My item list (mushrooms I was planning to obtain) doesn't cover a few mushrooms I'm going to collect either way = 5mush;1supermush. My WIP already got 14 mushrooms . I need 74;1 (74 mushrooms, 1 supermushroom), which is 2 mushrooms short of having 6,0 mushbadge bonus. I'm getting those 2 mushrooms from hermie. Fighting hermie with 5,0 or 6,0 is equally fast, and 6,0 works the best for the remaining bosses. 58;0 (purchased anyway) + 5;1 (have it anyway) + 14;0 (WIP) - 3;0 (5;1 mushrooms I already collected in the WIP) = 74;1 So it turns out I already have exactly the 74;1 mushrooms I need. 5;1 ===> 3;0 from stardust battles (testrun) 1;0 + some items from university ~~> don't collect, find replacement for other items? or collect anyway. 0;1 from university ~~> collect 1;0 from chucklehuck woods ~~> don't collect ---> I'm going to not collect any more mushrooms (except the 1 supermushroom in university) until I arrive in Fungitown. Due to this little oversight I lost about 0.5~1.5 seconds, since I collected slow-to-get mushrooms over quicker-to-get mushrooms. E: Turns out the testrun I made collected the Bros Rock and it was among the items that were sold in Fungitown. I'm not going to get the Bros Rock in the TAS. Furthermore, I believed that Lucky Bros Badge boosted Luigi's Hige stat but that's not the case (it had originally boosted for an unknown reason: game remembers your current stats even if you edit them in memory watch, sets them back to normal upon selecting a badge). --> this means: Luigi needs to upgrade Hige in level-ups, as originally intended (only originally; later I decided Luigi should upgrade Pow since Lucky Bros supposedly served him enough Hige (36)). I do not know if less Pow will change later boss fights, Luigi is pretty weak anyway (Mario's Chopper Bros is dominating). But chances are high some boss fights will have 1 more round than intended, wasting some seconds... >_> --> New mushroom plan: 54;0 purchased (Luigi 36 Hige, upgrades Hige every level-up Cackletta(Uni) onwards) + 5;1 (collected anyway) + 14;0 (WIP) - 3;0 (5;1 mushrooms already collected in WIP) = 70;1 --> need 4 more mushrooms, so original plan was not flawed after all. But my boss battle plans may be flawed due to Luigi having less Pow, probably I'll have to do a second testrun when I arrive at Cackletta (university) ------------- Latest WIP: link Mario & Luigi RPG (J) (!); vba-24-m

Greetings, MUGG; Just wanted to offer some support with your run. This is one of my favorite games for the GBA, and I am very much looking forward to seeing it TAS'd. Here's offering you my support with this project in the hopes that you may continue to have success. EDIT: Also, for those interested, I have made an encode for the most recent WIP: http://youtu.be/Ghnu0jKFJpI

We don't "liek" your posting style. Come back when you've finished elementary school and have some semblance of a grasp of grammar.

Aw... But why do I have to finish elementary? I told Bobo I'd fix my grammar and I did.

This post explains why. Basically, there is a major glitch that can be exploited in the Japanese version that does not work in the English version.
<ccfreak2k> There is no 'ctrl' button on DeHackEd's computer. DeHackEd is always in control.

TAS WIP 4 (vbm) I stopped for some months because I couldn't motivate myself to redo several rooms over and over to manipulate luck for the bonus roulettes after Wiggler. I got same / worse luck with three different RNG values so in the end I decided to go on with the "bad" luck - it's not too bad, really, I'm just squeezing frames where possible. The next boss battle went better than expected, I killed him a round sooner. I'm too lazy to look into this, but... when he turns small, he's subsequently healed by that old dude - and apparently I skipped that healing sequence so it makes this strategy worthwhile. Next up is Woohoo Hooniversity. I could just skip the entire thing with a walk through wall bug, but it just barely doesn't work out.. Items to get: Herb, Syrup, Mushroom Supermushroom near the end somewhere - mushroom (room where light is turned on) - mushroom (mini Mario room) - mushroom (room where Mario and Luigi reunite) Boss Cackletta planned strat: Best strat to use on her is to manipulate her into copying herself for 3 rounds, this might be easy to do since using either knockback or bounce bros as Luigi can give different luck. Bros Rock isn't collected due to being too weak and having no worth in the JP version.

Mini Mario glitch Sadly, I didn't find a use for this and can't think of more ways to expand on it than what I already put in the video description. The TAS WIP is in the same room as the video, at the moment.

Glad to see you back on this. Any place to put in that mini mario glitch without wasting time?

No. Yes, because you can skip the automatic pounding to get small Mario big. This also means I have to re-TAS half of WIP 4 since it saves several frames in one room in the forest. Hopefully I can hex-edit most parts but if it turns out the luck for the main boss is crappy, I might just ditch this.

Because of an improvement Zeldara109 pointed out that saves 354 frames in Hoohoo Village, I have to redo 101,000 frames...

I do not suppose some guy saying, 'don't ditch!' will motivate you much against a frame count that big will it? Either way; Don't ditch!
