Nice 176 is a lot so far. I have two questions though one may sound stupid, but I'll ask it anyway. Even though its the 100% thread are you doing a 100% run or Any% run? Also who else is involved with the TAS?
This is 100%. And only Fractal and me are involved, we are just too busy with our personal lives these days (this month in special).

Speaking of Kuwanger, I have an older TAS of his stage. It's more for entertainment than speed, but maybe it would be useful for some of the things I have in it.

To those who missed my stream last night, we advanced a little bit and defeated Boomer Kuwanger. We are going to do now Storm Eagle. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1331549131/Mega%20Man%20X%20%28V1.1%29%20%28U%29.smv

We haven't had much progress. But Rolanmen1 has discovered an interesting glitch, which I hex edited into both our TAS, and (partially) dezbeast's published run. The Boomer Kuwanger stuff is from our TAS hex-edited; the Storm Eagle stuff from dezbeast's run hex-edited. Link to video After beating a boss, by pressing start right before X walks to the center and the victory fanfare plays, the screen fades out as if going to the menu, but it stays black. The music from then on is softer, as if a menu effect is in place. The softness does not stack, and the effect lasts until the next menu call. Because of this, most of the stages after Chill Penguin will have softer music, since the glitch can be done after every stage. If anyone has any opinion regarding the use of softer music (or about the use of fadeout at the end of each stage), please let us know.

Technically Yoshiiscool found it. I was in his stream the other day and Rolan was there and Yoshi told him about it. Apparently Rolan said it saves 20 frames. Anyway I honestly don't mind the music thing. I believe as long as it saves time it should be incorporated.

Yoshiiscool found it apparently months ago and told us about it during one of his fancy X2 streams. He said he didn't think it was important, which is why he just now tells us about it. Anyway, I'm glad that this will be useful in the TAS. I asked about hex editing it in the TAS without having to re-do some things, so it's great that it worked out.

If it saves time, do it. If it doesn't save time, don't do it on every stage. (How often would you be opening the menu for other reasons, resetting the glitch as a side effect, by the way?)

BTW thank god you guys were able to hex it in cause that would suck having to go back and redo it. Anyway if you don't mind me asking. After you guys complete this TAS what other projects will you guys be working on? I would really love to see a low% of this game or even more so a X2 100% "Good Ending". Actually any kind X2 run would be awesome to see.

Please don't do this. I don't think it adds any entertainment at all to your run. Softer music is pretty bad because in this case, the music is pretty good and you don't want less of that.

I don't think the music will go back to normal until a pause during Rangda Bangda for the Air Hadouken. Then after the boss, the music will go back to being softer because of this warp bug. I didn't mention how I feel about using the bug. Personally, I don't mind it because it doesn't really bother me, plus I hear the music all the time anyway.

The 100% run requires some stage revisits, right? E.g. for the heart container in Chill Penguin. So when you pause to use the Escape Unit, that'd reset the music, right? All else being equal, I'd rather have the music at full volume. This is a neat trick conceptually but personally it doesn't add entertainment to the movie. I know there are plenty of people out there who derive their entertainment from knowing that the run is absolutely as fast as possible, though, and I'm not about to argue with them.

I believe that's the ONLY revisit required. I too would prefer to have the music at full volume.

You could always adjust the volume the movie plays at later, couldn't you?

For the encodes, you could patch the volume to a pre-set level with an Action Replay code, maybe? I believe this was done with Deign's FF2US run.

Well yeah but not the sound fx independent of the music.

I uploaded a few potential Zips on Youtube. Maybe they will be useful in the TAS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyA5CBWnago You can probably wobble zip left or right to make them much faster, especially that first and second one, to get into the wall faster, then jump at 30hz to decend from inside the wall. That last zip into the ground in Chameleon's stage is probably useless. Edit: Really sorry for the multiple posts. I kept getting a 500 Server Error and refreshing and I didn't know it would resend the data over and over.

If the music glitch saves time, use it. The entertainment lost from having a lower volume is minimal enough to make it worthwhile IMO.
All the best, Brandon Evans
