http://www.humblebundle.org The games available this time are Super Meat Boy, Bit.Trip Runner, Jamestown, Shank, and Night Sky HD. As with all Humble Bundles...
  • You set your own price.
  • All games are available on PC, MacOS, and Linux.
  • All games are available as both DRM-free standalone packages, or you can redeem a Steam key for the bundle.
  • You get a bonus for beating the average price. For this one, you get Cave Story Plus and Gratuitious Space Battles.

I already own SMB and Bit.Trip Runner, and I just purchased Cave Story+ a few days ago (currently stuck on the Core battle on Hard). IMO they've been pushing the Humble Bundles a bit too hard. Though it is nice for me as an OSX user that their offers are almost always cross-platform compatible.

I already have SMB and Jamestown as well; as far as I'm concerned they're the only two games worth paying for on the list (YMMV). Cave Story+ is a child of a concept that generally pisses me off to a considerable extent, so I won't buy that one on principle.

I got CS+ mostly to show support for Pixel. The remixed music is terrible (but the original music is still available), the graphics are nice, the gameplay's the same as always, the translation is...serviceable, though I preferred Balrog's old "Huzzah" over the "Oh yeah". And apparently there's an extra level or two somewhere, though I haven't looked for them yet. And besides, it was only $10. I can justify that kind of purchase pretty easily.

Ignoring basically all the comments here, would I be right in an assumption that the likes of super meat boy (and jamestown) won't work for a tas in hourglass at this point due to having the steam api? In the forum thread about it, it is mentioned that a cracked version of the game does indeed work (thusly probably bypassing the steam portion), but doesn't mention what settings were required to get it to run. These are a couple of games that could have some interesting tas potential, but without being able to run in hourglass, we'll never see them.

more like the humble worthless bundle those games aren't even worth the download time

It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success." - Onkar Ghate

arflech: I haven't been working on Jetblade because I moved to other hobbies, frankly. I have too many and maintaining interest in just one for a sustained period is often beyond me. Also, in August I moved into a house that required some renovation so I've been dedicating most of my spare energy to that instead. Unlike my sarcastic comment earlier, though, I don't object to open source and I'm glad I made the source for Jetblade available. Anyone interested in it is welcome to pick up where I left off. Mostly the game needs content now; I've sorted all of the big map generation issues. Atma: Unless I miss my guess, Super Meat Boy is Flash-based, and thus would be problematic to run under Hourglass even if Steam weren't an issue. pirate_sephiroth: honestly this bundle is miles better than the last one. I've heard good things about Jamestown, NightSky, and Shank, and Super Meat Boy is excellent. Bit.Trip Runner is a bit niche but I enjoyed it.

http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11329 As I mentioned, a cracked version apparantely works (to a degree, but it works), but a regular version seemingly doesn't. I am curious as to whether or not the steam api screws shit up, as it seems to be the defining point on several games that could make a good tas that otherwise don't work.

^^My best guess was that SMB was ported to native code, just like VVVVVV. Anyway, I was miffed for a moment when the site didn't load properly for me; it must have had a hard time handling the traffic.

The steam API breaks hourglass compatibility last I checked. There seems to be an issue wherein before the game launches, the steam dll attempts to get some processor performance statistics, going into a wait loop until the clock advances by a certain amount. However hourglass doesn't allow the steam client dll to advance the emulated clock, because it isn't recognized as a part of the core processing guaranteed not to cause desyncs, so under hourglass all steam games simply hang immediately upon launch until terminated.
How fleeting are all human passions compared with the massive continuity of ducks.
