So no problem then should barriere skip ever be discovered. good.
-Going into the Puppet Ganon battle will give you the fully charged Master Sword and Mirror Shield, for whatever reason.
Probably for beta testing reasons. You usually have to have that stuff so they never took it out.

Please don't tell me all hope for this run has been abandoned. The glitches discovered looked so promising. Everyone thought this was a lost cause due to the sailing, but that has since been fixed. There must be SOME way to get past this stupid barrier.

The barrier in Hyrule. Skipping it would mean you can save 2 or 3 hours in a TAS.

Basically if it could be skipped it would cut out like two thirds of the game, which would bring it down to a tasable length.

There's a rumor that in the Japanese version you don't have to pay the fee of 398 rupees to Tingle for translating maps. A Gamefaqs guide that focuses on the Japanese version still mentions the 398 rupees fee though. EDIT: The rumor is false. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJ0JUH068Uw

Does the tingle tuner actually work in dolphin? And would it sync in a tas?

I remember having once fished up the triumph forks without actually getting the maps, let alone translating them. Not sure if it's actually possible or a false memory though. FYI, I have a PAL version, and if I ever did, I most likely would have on a New Game +

Real time world record by Jiano. The run starts around 15 minutes in. I wish someone ignored the infamous barrier and started working on this. :(

Yeah people will totally start TASing a 6 hour game on an unstable emulator!

Dolphin is fairly stable now.

That's exactly what I'm doing with Paper Mario: TTYD. And Dolphin is much more stable than you think. It has essential features now too, like read-only mode, TAS input window, and solid savestates.

Well the TAS feature isn't and that is ofcourse what I meant. ;) At least not stable enough to tackle a 3D game that is over 2 hours.

A RPG and a free roaming 3D game, with different forms of movement, complicated enemy AI, etc. are really different cases. I really doubt you can TAS 2 minutes in TWW without getting a desynch. Combined with the length of this game and the time it takes to play back Gamecube movies, that is a dealbreaker.

Which feature do you think is unstable? Frame advance works perfectly, there have been many savestate fixes so savestates work really well, and read-only mode is fixed so you don't have to play a 2+ hour movie from the beginning every time you want to check for desyncs.

He is just hating, CoolKirby, so simply ignore him until he gets bored.

Yeah sure. Then why don't you TAS TWW and see how many desynchs you can work through, without losing your mind. Savestates are better, but still not perfect and complicated 3D games desync if you look at them funny. I would love for somebody to try tasing this game but my prediction is he/she would go insane within a month.

PM:TTYD is a 3D RPG, which, like TWW I'm sure, also needs precise movements and needs to manipulate lag and enemies.

Have you tried TASing TWW on the latest Dolphin? It's probably less desync prone than you think.

And once again, read-only mode is fixed, so you can easily load a savestate from any point in your movie and start watching that part. Try it out! It's really helpful.

Yeah because you can totally tell if something syncs from a savestate. Even in mupen that's hit or miss. From time you will have to play back your movie. Don't know how far you are into your TAS. That might still get quite funny for you. Even though Paper Mario TTYD is a 3D game, it's clearly not as desynch prone as an action adventure. If you'd like to prove me wrong, please do and TAS TWW. Obviously Dolphin is still desynch prone. Otherwise this wouldn't make much sense: http://code.google.com/p/dolphin-emu/source/detail?r=57d1c87a2d62916030fc3dcda16b607c017435d9&name=master I'm also pretty sure that savestates aren't perfect yet. That has nothing to do with read only mode, btw.

I did some pretty thorough TAS testing in this game. Savestates in a different loading zone than the current will usually crash the emulator. It's pretty annoying. Superswimming makes this TAS amazing. (You can superswim from Outset to Dragon Roost in under 2 minutes.) Lack of a barrier skip and having to get all the triforce charts is a bit of a drag though. We had worked out a decently thorough route up through Tower of the Gods, but I would have to talk to someone to organize my thoughts. If anyone has actual intentions of TASing this, please contact me to discuss the route. (In reference to the below comment, Savestates as described were crashing the emulator less than 6 months ago.)

Dolphin hardly ever desyncs any more after some of nitsuja's recent fixes. If you haven't tried it in the last week or two, you have no idea what you're talking about.
Yeah because you can totally tell if something syncs from a savestate.
99% of the time, you can. But yes, you're right, it is necessary to play back from the start every so often. However, it's easy enough to just let it run over night.

It does sync 99% of the time with TWW of a savestate? Kind of doubt that, but okay... If somebody here wants to TAS TWW, please don't let me stop you. I just doubt anybody will do it without cracking after about an hour of gametime.

I don't see any possible defect of Dolphin that will stop me from finishing my TAS.

I agree with you. But neither game should be so desync prone that a TAS would be impossible to make.

I'm talking about read-only savestates. When you load a savestate in read-only mode in any Dolphin v3.0-235 and newer, it will start playing back your movie from that point, instead of loading and showing the "Movie End" text and then ending your movie, like the broken read-only mode before that revision.

I meant that 99% of the time when it syncs while playing back from a save state with read only, it'll sync when played from the start.

Yeah and I really doubt that's the case with TWW.
