Submission Text Full Submission Page
Super Mario Bros. Parallel Air (SMB1 Hack) differs from SMB Air 1 & 2 hacks. This hack is extremely hard, and I had fun creating a run for it. This hack is based on the SMB Air 1 hack. Find the quickest way to complete this puzzle. The trick which saved the most time was the coin block trick. It can be done while doin' the sneak a block trick and grabbing the coin at the same time and pressing left. The most annoying part was in Air 1-1. The fireball part was a pain to do. What more is there to say? Oh yes, jumping through blocks with or without autofire. Have fun watching!
Goals with this run:
  • Aims for fastest time
  • No death.
  • Abuses programming errors in the game.
Time table:
  • Air: 1-1 hit the flagpole at: 280
  • Air: 1-2 hit the flagpole at: 428
  • Air: 1-3 hit the golden axe at: 429
//Regards Daniel Martinzon

Nach: The original submission was uploaded with the wrong file, I have replaced it with the correct one. Also, judging.
sgrunt: Fixed up the submission naming.

Nach: While this may be a well made TAS, our audience feels there is only enough room for 1 SMB Air hack on the site. That hack is Air 2, not this one. Rejecting.

Nach: Since hacks don't qualify for the vault, based on the above, rejecting.

Encode is already there (the "avi" link in the submission text) Voting no as this game is just a shorter version of NES Air 2.

Why can Mario jump from the bottom of the screen, and sometimes even in mid-air? Are there invisible blocks or something?

If I recall correctly, the Air hacks let Mario fly.

Only Air and Air Parallel (this game) allow him to jump an unlimited amount of times. Air 2 you can only jump once which makes it the prefered Air game to have a TAS as it makes play more superhuman looking.

So, a bit of research suggests that this hack is supposed to be a more difficult (yet much shorter) version of Air, by the same author as the original Air, by all appearances. I posit that we only have room for one Air run (of any variety) on the site, as the game play between the various versions is going to look rather similar (vicious SMB1 glitch abuse at all turns). Should this run replace the one we already have? Despite the (hack) author's intent of this being more difficult, the resulting run makes the game seem less challenging and more amateurish than either of the runs of Air or Air 2 the site has had to this point. Thus, I don't think this run of this hack has a place on the site and I vote No.

Not an interesting hack, not more entertaining than an ordinary SMB1 run, voting No.

How this hack ever get accepted in the first place is beyond my understanding. This is one of the reasons the whole unpublishing debate came around.

I did not really like this hack. It feels like elements were thrown together and called a "game"

There used to be a policy on the site that a hack needed to be "approved" by an administrator before being submitted, due to the fear that otherwise there would be a flood of crappy hacks submitted. The original Air was approved before this rule was removed.

This seems a little boring and way to slow I think, and also we have very strict rules about hacks, so no vote.
Recent projects: SMB warpless TAS (2018), SMB warpless walkathon (2019), SMB something never done before (2019), Extra Mario Bros. (best ending) (2020).

Here's the deal with this hack. When you complete air, and play the second loop you can now access a secret passage that is blocked by a goomba normally, which gives you the password to open the zip for this hack, which is meant to be an extra hard, extra short version of AIR. Like AIR before it, the author realizes that you can turbo-a through blocks, and you can come back from a death off the bottom of the screen without tool assistance, but these techniques are FORBIDDEN, because the author couldn't figure out how to stop them. This is why AIR 2 was made. to give the TASers something they can't cheat on. :)
