I read a review saying pretty much "Duke Nukem Forever is awesome, as long as you don't compare it to Crysis 2, Modern Warfare, Half-Life 2 yadayada", which is kinda true. While the game has some cool elements, it's far from the best in... anything (I don't think it beats Postal 2 in "Rude jokes"). Now I don't mind graphics as in low/high-res textures, but what I do mind is models which are out of place, out of proportion, out of... anything. Try jumping while watching yourself in the mirror for some hilarity.
Overall, it doesn't even try.
This game doesn't beat Half-Life 2, the game it's trying so bad to be.
And I would not agree with variety in levels, I'm afraid. Changing textures does not mean adding variety in game play.
Actually Portal 2 jokes were comparatively high-brow for a video game (although a bit lower than the first game, but that's probably the only thing that got any worse). It's generally not easy to find a high budget video game that isn't oriented towards the lowest common denominator.
Edit: Gah, I'm blind, you were talking about Postal 2. >_<
maybe I missed the hype. Considering it's been in development hell for a decade, was almost canceled and pronounced dead several times, I think it turned out quite well. Maybe that's the reason I liked it: low expectations.
Seeing that you played bought Quake4 and Crysis, I consider DNF to be more fun than either. Crysis has these beautiful gfx, but I don't think the gameplay is any fun.
DNF is different enough from HL2 and Modern Warfare that you can play buy all of them without one diminishing the other. HL2 manages to tell a good story. MW has these beautiful interactive cutscenes called "levels". And DNF just features braindead, over-the-top action with the duke. I guess it's a matter of taste.
