I'm having some trouble with Dolphin and I was hoping that somebody might be able to help me with them. The first problem I'm having is that sometimes I can't use any hotkeys and it seems the only way to fix it is to click off the window, then try again, but after about 5 seconds it'll do it again and I'll have to click off the window again. Another problem I'm having is when I record something, according to the guide I used, the video should run at usual speed, but it runs way faster and also there's no sound. How do I change this? Also, I'm trying to figure out TASing and I can't seem to get the Frame Advance to work. I assumed I'd pause the game, hold the inputs I want and hit frame advance, but it doesn't work, so I must be wrong about that. If anyone can help me with any of these problems, I'd appreciate it.

What revision are you using? Yes, some video games seem to run at 30 FPS and output to 60 FPS video for some reason. In the meantime you should use virtualdub to correct the framerate... In Dolphin the frame advance hotkey switches between normal mode and "frame advance mode". When in "frame advance mode", pause/play will act as frame advance.

"In Dolphin the frame advance hotkey switches between normal mode and "frame advance mode". When in "frame advance mode", pause/play will act as frame advance." that didn't work for me when I tried it… no matter the random mashing I did between pause and frame advance, the emulator wouldn't do it

To dump sound, you have to go into the audio options and check the "Dump Audio" box. Then use a separate program to combine it with the dumped frames. And frame advance works for me exactly how MUGG described it.

What do you mean what revision am I using? Thanks, I'll download virtualdub now. What switches the frame advance mode and how do I know whether I'm in frame advance mode or not? Thanks for the help with the sound.

@Alaktorn Random mashing between pause and frame advance? o_O You just press frame advance once, then pause/play will only advance one frame per use, so it works perfectly fine... @everyone Dump video will work from any point. However, dump audio will only work from power-on for now. I'm using Virtualdub to combine video and audio, using avisynth scripts (using .audiodelay, and .timestretch when necessary). @Phazon In your Dolphin window, go to help>about and tell us what it says in the first line. It should tell you the version or revision you are using. Version 2.0 is very outdated and 3.0 isn't released yet. Revisions newer than r7323 seem to affect syncability, so I'm not sure if it's wise to use them. You can download individual revisions here: http://www.dolphin-emulator.com/download.html You will know you are in frame advance mode if pause/play only advances 1 frame per press.

I'm using R7511. So you're saying I should use an earlier version? Is there a way to alternate between frame advance mode and normal mode?

You should try to use r7323 and see if your problem with hotkeys not working you mentioned in the first post still takes place. You switch between frame advance mode and normal mode by using the "frame advance" hotkey.

r7511 should be fine. I don't think r7323 had configurable hotkeys. Frame advance is a toggle switch. Turn it on, and the emulation pauses and will only advance 1 frame every time you push the pause button. Turn it off, and the emulation will still be paused. Simply push the pause button again to resume normal play.

Hotkey configuration exists since at least r6000... Newer revisions can be buggy, so you should try to use r7323 in any case.

Oh I thought it was a newer development. I still have r7060 on my computer and it doesn't have that option. At least not in the location it currently is.

Okay, thanks for the help. I'm also finding that the video shows all my rerecording. Is that normal and I should just edit the video, or is there a way to avoid it?

To people having hotkey issues, Try running the emulator from the main window. (Config -> Display -> Render to Main Window) That fixed the hotkeys suddenly not working for me. And this is the first time I've heard about newer revisions having syncing problems. Can you explain this more? r7323 was a fix for memcards ejecting/reinserting on savestate, so I would think that would help sync.

Don't use the DOWN or RIGHT arrows. Those keys also seem to break the hotkeys. I've posted this issue.

Toad King, I'm worried due to sonicpacker's post in the Recommended settings topic.
MUGG, I wouldn't recommend updating to the newest rev. I'd stick with r7318 for now. It has the loading times more accurate than previously. In newer revs, a bit of LLE work has been done and it's causing quite a few desyncs. I tried TASing a shine in SMS and a simple sideflip + dive wouldn't sync after nearly 10 tries. Before that even occured, it had desynced at 3 places prior in the movie...I'll add that it wasn't even that many frames.
r7323 isn't far from r7318 and it has the eject/insert problem fixed. I planned to check out v3.0 once it is released - but most of all, I'm waiting for a fix for the input shifting I explained in the Dolphin development topic. And yes, the keyboard's arrow keys seem to glitch up Dolphin, so I have my directional buttons elsewhere.

Ah, I changed the controls and now it's working fine, thanks. I have one last question though. Does anyone know how to turn the frame count on? Idk if it's called frame count or not, but basically so Dolphin says which frame it's currently on.

When you open Dolphin, don't double click the game to start playing. Instead go to Emulation -> Start Recording. This will load up the game and two counts will be added to the footer: VI, which is the current frame, and Frame, which is the total number of polled inputs.

Thanks, got that working too. I created a .dtm by exporting the recording. Do I need to play this back in Dolphin and record the .avi of that? If so, how do I play it back in Dolphin?

-Close and open a fresh instance of Dolphin (important, or else it will desync) -Check Dump Audio and Dump Video in the options. -Go to Emulation->Play recording. Choose your .dtm -Audio will automatically overwrite and dump the audio to user//dump//audio. -Video will ask to overwrite (if applicable), then ask how you want it compressed. In my experience, best way to dump is with Microsoft Video 1. The files are relatively small, and you can adjust the slider for increased performance at the cost of a downgraded resolution. The file will be dumped to user//dump//video.

Can you ask him to see if he can find the exact revision that causes the desyncs? I looked ahead and couldn't find any big LLE changes right after 7318, and I was able to completely play back diggidoyo's MM10 WIP he uploaded in the MM10 thread with no problems. (Other than crashing twice before figuring out it was XAudio2 causing them.)

I can't find Dump Video, I've been using Dump Frames instead. Is that the same thing? I loaded by using Start Recording, but then as soon as I load a save-state, the recording ends. I opened the ISO normally, loaded my state and tried recording then, but if I try to play back the recording, Dolphin crashes. Also whenever I export I make a .DTM and then when I close I have to make another .DTM. Idk if I need both, but I tried with both and they always get the same problem as the other.

...in addition to the order you suggested I think I've read a different reply on how to fix this back in this topic but I don't think I'll bother trying, Dolphin doesn't seem advanced enough for me to like TASing on it…

I'm having the same problem Phazon described where I can only use non-gameplay buttons (save states, frame advance, etc.) for a few seconds after making the emulator the active window, then the only input it accepts is normal controller inputs. I'll try the suggested version instead of what I'm using now. In case it doesn't work, Phazon, if you were able to resolve the issue some other way, please let me know.

Try checking "render to main window" in the Display configuration tab.

While I do like this feature, it doesn't seem to help the hotkey issue I'm having.
