I tested with a code to see what happens if you get the Episode 8 shine in Episode 1 in Gelato Beach. It will unlock all the other Episodes. So ideally, if it were possible, a TAS would get the Episode 8 shine in Episode 1 and then go to Episode 7, skipping 5 shines as I suggested.

I wonder if anyone will actually work on a 100% TAS for this game? The one in Progress is 70 Shines, right?

There is none in progress, and I recommend waiting until this is fixed. It would be 49 shines (or 45 if we can clip into the Episode 8 shine in Gelato Beach, as I explained above).

Is that just a problem with the iso or the emulator or both? It's a real shame that that is the main thing that is holding people back from a completed run.

@NMeade: Emulation glitch. Also, if I were to make a TAS of Mario sunshine there would also be the input shifting I mentioned in the Dolphin development topic that would hold me back. But I'm pretty sure ReneBalow, who does not have this problem, will make the first publishable any% TAS of the game. :) First frame after jumping off Yoshi on the American and Japanese version in a comparison. Due to this difference, infinite flutter is only possible in the American version and the ceiling glitch is only possible in the Japanese version. In an any% TAS, the Japanese version is probably better due to infinite flutter being mostly useless. In a 120 shine TAS, the American version could be better since you can flutter directly onto the small isle with the pipe and yellow goop instead of waiting 3 minutes riding boats. On the other hand, maybe we can use an out-of-bounds glitch to get into that pipe... EDIT: I tried, there's some kind of invisible wall blocking me. :( Also, I haven't been able to clip into the Episode 8 shine in Gelato beach using Yoshi on both versions (would be pretty useless anyway since Yoshi is only in Episode 6 as far as I know). Oh well.

Oh alright. It is odd that ReneBalow is the only one who doesn't have the problem. That is an interesting post about the Yoshi jumps too, good explanation.

Take a look at this: Using Yoshi, I glitched through a building and used the Infinite Flutter glitch to get under the pineapple and into Sirena Beach. It turns out that there is actually a fair share of solid ground right under the pipe. This may be counterintuitive for an any% or a 100% run, especially since the pineapple doesn't go away after you complete an Episode, but I think it would be fine for a low% run that tries to do the bare minimum.

Well, looks like I finally did it! Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRFbWeEONqg&feature=channel_video_title This isn't necessarily faster than the normal method, but we are now only two Shine Sprites away from completely skipping Yoshi!

You can skip the ending cutscene of the eel boss fight if you lose 1 unit of air at the same time when cleaning his last tooth. It was originally found by aneeslol at speedrunslive.

I was anticipating a WIP when I saw this thread. What I got was disappointment.

There's an emulation glitch where one stage automatically gets completed, so no WIP is possible yet. But since you're looking for progress, check Mugg or Renebalow's youtube channels, they've done some individual stages.

There is still some stuff to try out, for example I'd like to see if there are other cutscene skips like the one at the eel. What about the Gelato ep8 shine? Is everyone sure enough it isn't possible to get? There is still the desync bug, so I can't TAS.

I've tried various fruit clips and they proved unsuccessful. I've also tried going under the Shine and using the Rocket Nozzle, but there's an invisible wall all around that area. Using Yoshi is pointless because Episode 6 is the first Episode he's available for use. I'm still working on completing Episode 3 of Sirena Beach without Yoshi, but I haven't had any luck so far. I got really close, but just not there yet.

I know what you mean, but tricks like cutscene skips, Pianta Village without Yoshi, and early Sirena Beach are disappointing? Tricks like these are what lead to WIPs.

Completing Ep3 of Sirena without Yoshi is already possible. See the TAS on the previous page. I didn't manage to do that strat on console myself though...

I didn't either; I think it might be a japanese only trick. I'll try it myself later anyway. Regardless, this means that (for the japanese version at least), we just need to find a way to skip Yoshi for Episode 5 of Pinna Park to complete the entire game without him.

As far as I know, Yoshi will always already be in Pinna Park. You don't need to unlock him beforehand.

I tried the Episode 3 Yoshi skip again and it still didn't work. Since the japanese version is glitchier I'd assume it's a version exclusive glitch.

The Episode 3 in Sirena Beach works without Yoshi in NTSC-U and NTSC-J. I don't know, whether it works in PAL,too. This i have never tested.

I moved the record list on the previous page to the wiki. I might make a GameResources page for this game too.

Since Renebalow closed his Youtube account I tagged his videos in both the SSBM and Sunshine pages as deleted. I would be interested in knowing why he did that...

This was my immediate reaction too. For some reason, though, his brother's account is still open. What reason could he have for closing it?

thinking about it it could be because his account name is his real name and he has applications or something going on. so maybe he doesnt want to be connected with spending his whole time with playing video games... i just hope, that he wont stop his work and that his videos can be watched at another place

I know. I worried about the same thing when Mickey/VIS (an awesome SM64 TASer) closed his account too. But he made a new account. MUGG, if you need it for your records, here is Rene's Boss of Tricky Ruins run on MediaFire. It's in pretty bad quality since it was on my phone, but you can upload it somewhere if you want. Otherwise, my old (dead) computer should have a better quality version, which I can recover once I transfer my files over.
