In the green room, it looked like you had to wait some on the upper moving bone. You know that you can manipulate it to appear more to the left by making a jump when waiting on the skull platform below, right ? Also, are you sure that it's faster to start with the green room than the blue room ?
It's a bit unfair to compare your time with the published run since you don't have to stop so much in a death abuse run. I still hope you pursue this, I'd definitely like to see a death abuse tas of this game.
If someone going to do death-abuse run, make use of this glitch - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hMBugFxC9k
I think this glitch has no use for no-death run tho.
*wrong video, edited.
I just discovered a new glitch, it got me excited a bit, I think it could save at least 10 seconds (or more?)
It makes Gomez flys left or right direction and go thru wall (no, not out of boundary)
But first I'm curious if this glitch also can be performed on console, just curious if it's legit glitch or not. Because it very easy to perform and I don't know why NOONE notice it or post about this glitch at all, leading me to think this isn't legit glitch. Could someone with Addams Family cart try it on console and report back?
To do this glitch:
1. Find any stair / ladder (rope / curtains won't work)
2. Walk up (press up)
3. When you reach to top, continue holding UP - SUCCESS you performed glitch.
You can do it at bottom stair if you use U+D same time (press down first, then U+D, then release down)
To have this glitch working, you have to continue holding UP. You can move to different room, but downside of this, you can't enter door with B or up until you release UP (loses glitch)
To use this glitch:
Jump in air, if you let go all buttons except UP, Gomez will be stuck in air still.
If you jump in air left or right direction then let go all button except UP, Gomez will begin flying left or right.
It can be used in SDA run if it works on console version, but only UP direction.
*edit - now with gif!
I was learning how to make LUA script.
I made a level selector for Addams Family, fun experience I must say.
Get it here.
How to use it: open a start menu in-game, the rest of instruction in there.
Not intended to use with TAS, but it can help you learn more about game I suppose. Or use it for fun.
*EDIT - Uploaded Version 2, redownload if you have old one.
- Minor correction with naming room
- Fixed where game glitch up when you press select while holding start
- Stopped Gomez from being stuck in swimming mode when you teleport out of pond
Hey I've been secretly working on death abuse TAS, but right now I'm not sure if I should bother finish it or give it up. Dying again and again seem like ruins it's entertainment.
Here's WIP
Should I finish it or give it up? or would someone else like to finish it?
If someone would like to finish it, here my intended route from end of WIP:
1. Collect all money except 500 near wrench, take damage to save time
2. Get wrench then go to secret room, continue take damage, near-death
3. Using glitch / programming error (as seen above) that leads to green bone room with bone pickup. (die here, twice)
4. Exit to garden, die at spike
5. Enter tree, get egg (unsure if dying save time here) - If you didn't get money here, get the 500 from study while lurch playing piano.
6. Back to house, do attic and the rest, the same way my previous movie finished it. In secret river, get all money.
Ventuz, I replied to your message on sda forum, so I'm not gonna repeat much here. Just that your zipping trick works on console and that I didn't see where this could save 10 seconds (I can see that it saves some time though depending on the route).
As for your new tas, I hope you pursue it. I think your wip desynched for me as you died just before picking up the umbrella (didn't make much sense to me). However, I think I can see how the rest of the route would be like. Pretty much the same route would work on console, maybe with the exception of having to pick up thing before going to the freezer (I'm actually a bit surprised it isn't faster in a tas as well, because I don't see a lot of other places where thing can save time).
I have two question marks about this game, please let me know if you find out
- Is there something hidden in Fester's room ? (the manual hints in an intriguing way)
- Does the middle music manuscript do something ? (iirc, the manual says that all music manuscripts can help Gomez or something similar)
Cool, sorry I thought there would be more place to use it, but I guess not.
No it wasn't desync. If I were to get umbrella first, then in freezer I would have to spend MORE time avoiding snowballs, dying there will put Gomez to right if I save wednesday. Plus I needed health point to get thru wood and pond quicker.
Nope. While making a LUA script to teleport Gomez, I tried visited all room from poking RAM. If you wanted to see for yourself, put this in CHEAT - 0471, from 0 to 24 is valid room, anywhere above lockup, no new room or anything.
No idea, I guess I should use my teleporting LUA and find out if anywhere does something.

I made a "console" WIP (save states, but played in real-time). The objective was to try out a couple of ideas and come up with a planning for an improvement of the console speedrun. I think the overall route should be pretty similar to the tas-route, so I thought I should post here.
A couple of comments:
- This took me an hour to make, so please don't laugh... Again, this is not a tas, it's just to share ideas for the route planning.
- I realised after I was finished that the extra life picked up was unnecessary.
- Ventuz' zipping trick could save a second after picking up thing (instead of going down the stairs in the main hall). I didn't use simply because the risk-reward ratio is not good enough for a console speedrun (for me at least).
- I used continues, because there are no restrictions for that at sda. If that's not allowed on this site, then it will of course somewhat reduce the possibilities of comparing routes.
- I used the pal-rom, because that's the console version I have. As far as I can tell, there are no differences with the ntsc-version except for the speed.
Ventuz, your turn... ;-)
Ah, pal rom was difficult to get my hand on. And movie desync on current emu version, so I had to download 2.0.0 emu.
Anyway that aside... Oops, I should have gone with dying in left The Landing instead of dropping down to outside, it's ~100 frames faster. And I like the idea of using Thing for snowballs, but I need to look into about time spend climbing up stair vs time spend jumping over snowballs.
I still can't find what does middle music manuscript even does.
LUA script I created, surprisingly worked on Pal rom.
Something interesting I found from using LUA, if Gomez leave treasury room without taking cash back from weigh in and then reenter; Cash becomes glitched. Enough to open door to Gomez room. But I cannot find a way to leave room without getting cash back the legit way. I even tried using stair glitch, that almost got it but not really, I guess we need a way to leave room without having Gomez touching the ground.
Sorry about the wrong emu-version. I use 2.0.2. Is it 2.1.4 I should use ? After a good night's sleep, I discovered a few flaws in the route that I would like to correct in the next version. I'll get onto it once I know I'm using the same emu-version as everyone else.
I'm not following the description for the treasury trick you're looking into. Maybe you were just thinking out loud, but otherwise it would help with a movie...
Ok, if you add this address: 0628 to ram watch, it's the address telling the game "Gomez is standing on the weigh-in" being 1.. "Gomez is not on weigh-in" being 0
I accidently discovered it by teleporting out of room using LUA script, and 0628 value stayed on 1, then I went back into Treasury room, money became infinite. You can transform just mere 100 cash into 11111111 cash this way.
But so far, for me, it's impossible to exit Treasury room without having that address' value change to 0.
I just had to post it, leave it here until someone find a way to leave room without changing it from 1 to 0.
Yeah 2.1.4a is current.
Ok, so I got the 2.1.4a and I can confirm that your first wip desynched for me because of the wrong emu-version I used for the playback. Now I'm starting to better understand some of your comments.
I made a new movie with some minor route changes. However, I'm much in doubt whether you plan to use continues or not. If not, our routes will be quite different and I'm not going to bother you too much with my route here.
Comments about what you have said above and your wip so far
- It's faster to take all the money bags in the ball room before entering the garden (edit: wood). This saves entering and exiting the ball room a second time and you will also avoid waiting a moment for the dancers to start dancing.
- I was able to be >100 frames faster than your wip in the freezer by using thing. This also takes into account going up and down the stairs once in the main hall (which would be the cost of getting thing before the freezer). This was done without using frame advance so I'm sure the actual difference would be closer to 200 frames in favor of picking up thing first. Of course, the question becomes moot if you plan to use continues since thing can then be picked up without any time loss before the freezer.
- The zipping in the landing looks neat, but I guess it's a tas-only trick ?
No I were going to abuse both deaths and continues.
Hey you're right, it is faster to collect all money in ballroom. I thought there were no time to collect them all and dancers would block door after time up. I should have check into that first.
No zipping not TAS only, if it work on console then you should be able to, It's easy to do, it just a little confusing to control Gomez when you're continuing holding up direction.
I've been thinking on different / new route idea, I'll demonstrate it, it is not a TAS.
*EDIT - movie here
Lots of new ideas and tricks ! I think most of it can be applied in a console run as well (however, I'm starting to get concerned about the increase in difficulty all these tricks are inducing).
I have lots of comments, but since you said this was only to show the route, I'm not going to go too much into detail.
- I'm curious as to why you didn't death abuse more. The green room (with the bone) ? The kitchen ? They don't save much time, but they some time, right ?
- You should skip either the diamond outside the house or the one in the pond. You ended with 2k to spare and there is the gold bar (2k) outside the house that is easy to get.
- I assume you didn't spend too much time on optimising the pond, but I thought I should mention that you can swim into some of the rock walls in the pond. See attached movie (US-rom this time :-) ) to get an idea of the concept.

Hmm maybe that could work, but will need 3400 cash this way. 2k Gold bar outside, 500 from Wednesday room, 500x2 from the pond.
Yeah I know from seeing your SDA run, doing tas in Wood, Pond, and Dining room is pain in the ass.
I think you mean 2400 (a diamond is worth 4k). 2k bar outside and 500 from Wednesday's room.

Ok, I should have expressed myself more clearly. I was not talking about the going through the rock wall near the spanner (but that would also save a bit of time). I was talking about entering solid rock in the background. Check out the movie in my previous post and you'll see what I mean.
Spent some time today to practice on console and came up with the following :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeAA4ftm0bo
It's around 40 seconds faster than my sda-run. I'd like to improve it by another 30s or so, but as far as the route goes, it feels pretty good. The route should be pretty close to the tas-route. Check it out. If not for anything else, it'll be a good opportunity to check for yourself once and for all how much a diamond is worth... ;-)
Comments
- I pick up the umbrella before the freezer. It costs half a second, but I'm more consistent with that.
- The execution towards the end is horrible. Sorry about that, but it's a wip, so take it for what it is.
Check out 17 seconds into this video

I accidentally jumped on the first enemy and it dropped a cheese. Have you seen this before ? No need to mention that this could break the game pretty hard if there was a way to have enemies dropping items... This was done on console, so it could of course be the game/console bugging out on me. Whatever the reason is, I take this as the game politely reminding me that I've been playing enough and should get out and enjoy some of the nice weather... :-P

That's impressive on console play.
Diamond is 4000? hah, I thought it always was 5000, I guess I wasn't really paying attention to cash counter. Ok skipping diamond, cheese, 500 then grab the gold bar outside and 500 from Wednesday's room is good idea then.
That cheese drop was interesting, might have to look into sometime.
