I played through the first couple worlds just now. I have to admit, even though it's a crippled, lame version of SMB2u, I wouldn't mind seeing a TAS of it.

Since this is the original version, if a TAS was made, would it replace the Super Mario Bros. 2 run the same way that Wonder Boy video replaced the one for Adventure Island?
Why, oh, why do I even try to understand my own species?

I take it the "fall-through-the-floor" glitch from SMB2u doesn't work in this?

Probably not since you can't run in DDP.

Makes me think that someone should have improved this run on April fools day. ;)

How do you delete data on Doki Doki panic with FCEU Ultra?

Yes, the encoders need ROMs, but I do believe that they all own the necessary systems and games; and if not, well, it's a "of course they do have all that, wink-wink-nudge-nudge" situation, at least. :)
I own all of the games I've TASed/tried to TAS :) (including the mini-games in the mini-game TAS thread I made (though I used gameshark to get to Pikachu's Beach in Pokemon Yellow))

Ah. I watched a part of 1–1, and I noticed some mistakes. You got stuck for a moment at 0:47 (should have jumped from the red pole to the upper platform and from there to the log). More subtle mistakes, such as walking on enemies going to the opposite direction, were also abundant.

Is double jumping faster ? Or does it takes more time to perform because you do it a lot of time where it isn't necessary.

Double jumping only requires jumping near an enemy, and I can't imagine it slowing down the character at all. Probably just to show off. But yes, I noticed those mistakes too. Would something like this even be accepted?

Well I did have mistakes but have improved them. I'll be gone for the next 2 weeks tomorrow so I won't be here then.

I vote no. To complete the game you have to get all four characters through all the levels. That's just not entertaining. Super Mario BRos 2 (usa version) is truly the better game.
Well, if all four characters does the same thing, then of course it will be boring. However, if each character doesn't something different (maybe even slightly different paths), then it can be entertaining. Imagine, even in SMB2(USA), the plays are different between Princess, Mario, Luigi and Toad. As long as there are enough differences between each character's run, I think Doki doki panic will be entertaining to watch.
I'm not saying a run of one character cannot be entertaining. The problem is you have to do all four of them in the same game to get the ending. It would be like sitting through four suboptimal TASes.

Necrobump initiated already? Don't mind if I continue. Do any of the notable (newer) SMB2 tricks work in Doki Doki Panic? (The rising "elevator", for example)

Well, I'm intrigued. It might seem boring, but it would be interesting to see how different characters accomplish the same tasks with their different abilities. In SMB2 some levels are ridiculously easy if you pick Luigi or the Princess, but are very difficult if you pick any other character. Though, the fact that Mario and Toad are very similar is a pretty big downside.

I realy don't know if anyone care about this game but I found something pretty cool this morning.I was messing around with this game when I found out that pausing the game while wrong warping cause some weird side effect and the game will warp me to other places. This gave me the ability after a while to find a glitch door where the game crash unless I pause the game.Killing myself while being on that pause screen and pressing certain inputs gave me the ability to wrong warp to the warp of world 4 into a glitched level.I was also able to warp to the title screen with that glitch area. Now if you're not familiar with this game if you press up+a+b on the second controller while being on the pause screen it will kill you like in zelda 1 or metroid. Here the movie file if anyone is interesed http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1607615450/Weird%20Wrong%20Warp.fm2

[quote="Bisqwit"]Doki Doki Panic is the FDS game that was the original version of Super Mario Bros 2 USA. While it is not as cool as SMB2u (sound effects are weird, musics are a little worse, there's no running), it might still be interesting -- I'm sure most people would like to see a run of this game as a museum sight. And most of the SMB2u tricks probably work in it. Any takers?[/quote] I'm working on a warped TAS right now. It's at 6-1 and I would like to see someone finish it. Would/Could it be in the style of SMB2?? Would you like the file as FM3 or FM2 uploaded to TASvideos as a WIP?

I stumbled on this post, and since you seem to be onto something, here's an encode of that file: Link to video This is also possible in SMB2(U): Post #319499 Edit:Sorta. with different effects, and no instant death

I might be able to use that, would you like to help? I mean, after I know the results of my Super Mario Advance 4 TAS. I'm still debating whether to use an fm3 file or fm2. FM3 is TAS Project files, while FM2 is a standard FCEUX movie. We should set 2 categories: Beat the game with 1 character and 100% (the true end)

1. You should probably uncheck "Disable BBCode in this post" when posting. :P 2. I hope this glitch could also at least be used for 100% for warping within the level, since imo beating the game 4 times really tests the viewer's patience. 3. FM3's can be exported to FM2s :P
