I've been keeping an eye on two guys, and it looks like they've completed fastest time (suboptimal though) runs of every character except samus (DK has an SDA speedrun, and Yoshi+Fox have been done before.) Jigglypuff Ness Kirby Mario Luigi Captain Falcon Pikachu Link This Ness one is even better than the one linked before: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ybee6IbGWik&NR=1

i have seen videos on youtube about TAS videos with cheat codes and I want to know how to do them.(I know that speedruns musnt have cheats, it's just to have fun XD). I have an idea how maybe they did them. It's with a program called MHS(Memory Hacking Software), there is another way with project 64 you turn on the cheat and then save the game, copy the save file and remplace the save file of mupen, but the problem is that this works with games like zelda, but it doesnt work with ssb. So i need help with MHS and if some1 know how they do them or another way how maybe they do them make me know, please. I have mupen 0.5 and mhs5.009 My goals are: 1.- Ultimate cancel hack (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYQivGd4vps) 2.- Remplace a character/player in vs made into: polygon mario/yoshi/etc, giant dk, metal mario. 3.- Remplace a/all stage(s) into a beta stage or battle field or Final destination. THX
all ssb are great video games, but the best of them is melee and the worst is brawl ant it doesnt mean that is a bad game. many people say that it sucks just beacause it is the worst but i know they like it

You have to find bytes in memory that represent things you need to overwrite. (I say byte, but it could be a word or a float as well.) If you don't understand anything about video game memory, you probably won't be able to do this yourself. 1.- Ultimate cancel hack Just send Jpleal a message and I'm sure he can tell you what byte needs set to what value. 2.- Replace a character/player in vs made into: polygon mario/yoshi/etc, giant dk, metal mario. You need to find values that represent Player Character and change the values to get characters wanted. I'm sure there is a byte for 'always giant' or something. 3.- Replace a/all stage(s) into a beta stage or battle field or Final destination. Find values that represent which stage is being played on, and change them until you get these stages (if they exist in memory). Looking up bytes in an N64 game is much harder than looking them up in a SNES or NES game. It takes a lot of time and trial and error to pinpoint exactly how the byte is varying. Once you find the applicable byte, setting the value is very simple. We don't go making cheat codes out of nowhere; we spend plenty of time finding places in memory that we can change to make things happen. Unfortunately, no one here wants to spend a few hours looking for bytes for you. You will have to experiment yourself.

I made some TAS combos, and I want to know what people think of them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0loTqbq2ZS4&feature=channel_page http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2XiMu1hQew&feature=channel_page http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJhtB6zMvRY&feature=channel_page thanks in advance
It seems you haven't posted here since last June, but perhaps you still watch this thread from afar, so: These were excellent! There are two types of moment that really make them shine - A) when you get your characters fairly spaced apart and bounce the CPU around rapidly between them, and B) when two characters are beating up on the CPU in various ways and the third is off doing something seemingly irrelevant, only to end up in the perfect place at the perfect time as a result of his setup (e.g. ness in #3). I'd love to see some more!

The Falcon Punch combo video was adorable. :) Great showmanship! I liked the Normal Falcon video a lot, particularly the "two kills with one punch" moment, but was disappointed you didn't use more Falcon Kicks. Great job using the moveset, though--it was fun to watch! I would have liked to see more Down-Air action with Yoshi. You did a supreme job of opening with it for massive damage, but from then on, the Forward-Air was the weapon of choice (with good reason). Excellent work on both videos! What are the chances of you doing a 2p vs. video that shows off some incredible dodging/recovery? :) Two TAS opponents fighting each other, Matrix style... haha!

My grandfather used to play chess through the mail with a friend, one move at a time. It would be cool to watch a 1-stock 2 player versus done by two people in the same manner (one frame at a time). Maybe have a 3rd person to take the input from both people so neither player can know what the other is doing.

hmm, that's an interesting idea smash in slow motion, but with more strategy and mindgames involved

I remember someone proposing this to be done in Melee using the debug menu's frame advance, but I don't think anything came of it.

TAS playaround compilation http://nicovideo.jp/watch/sm10706561 (with nico video account) http://dic.nicovideo.jp/v/sm10706561 (without nico video account) There are many SSB64 TASes floating around the internet, but this compilation was rather amusing to watch and is also long (10 minutes).

Nahoc, what happened to your speed-oriented TAS? Are you still planning on finishing it?
Current project: Gex 3 any% Paused: Gex 64 any% There are no N64 emulators. Just SM64 emulators with hacky support for all the other games.

It's on pause (been a while). I'm working on other projects atm. Blaze still believes yoshi is the fastest character. I think Kirby using the japanese version is the fastest.

Thanks for letting me know. I really hope this TAS will be finished some day, as I think it's very interesting to see this game being played for speed.

I've been working on a 4-Player Smash bros. playaround, but I'm planning to do more than just your average glitching and zipping and whatnot; I found a few ways to wavedash in the N64 version, looked up a glitch that gets your opponent up to 999 damage, and a few others. And since this version kinda doesn't have a story mode, I think it would be ideal for an N64 TAS (I know one of N64 Smash bros. has already been done, but one of my most favorite flavors of TAS is playaround.) What do you guys think?

The precedence on tasvideos is that fighting game playarounds are accepted if they show off a large amount of glitches, oddities and entertainment. So, I would go for it if you have enough stuff :)
