Hi, I never posted in these forums here but I am here because I need a TASer. There has been much debate on the Twin Galaxies (official score keepers of video games) message boards regarding a perfect score on Home Alone NES. http://forums.twingalaxies.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=24714 http://forums.twingalaxies.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=24647 To hopefully put an end to all this debate I will be willing to pay a TASer by paypal to anyone who can post a youtube video of world’s first perfect Home Alone score. This score will be the absolutely theoretically highest possible score that can be produced pulling out all the stops using TAS. The amount that I will be paypaling is $10.00 USD. I know it may not much but I know time and effort is put into these runs. So I’m trying to compensate for that. What must be done in the video to produce a perfect score? There are 30 traps in the entire game. In a normal game if you use all of the traps the highest score is 141,280 points but there had been lots of talk that it is possible to hit both bandits with a single trap if it’s done on the same frame. That means that both bandits would have to be hit by all 30 traps, resulting with a grand total of 270,560 points. There is also a screen when you complete the game which shows the bandits being captured by a police man right before you see the final score. This screen must be manually passed by pressing enter before 1 second has elapsed. It turns out that this screen gives you 10 points per second and those points should not be counted. Among the 30 traps there are 4 chandeliers which must be dropped down from the ceiling. The best way from what I’ve heard to make them hit both bandits is to let the bandits run into them in midair by the chandelier hitting them at the chest level. Now I’ve never been able to hit both bandits with a single trap which apparently can only be accomplished if they both hit the same trap at the same time on the same frame knocking them both out. Someone would have to verify that this is possible by confirming that it is possible to hit both bandits with a single trap. If you have any questions or are interested in regarding this bounty feel free to ask me.

andrewg here, I'm on both forums so I already know the whole situtation. How long is this run anyway?

If this is aiming for score, then a TAS shouldn't take too long to do, as long as you don't care about optimization of the movements.

A TAS that doesn't aim for speed? The blasphemy!

So instead of a TAS, this could just be a playthrough with savestates, and a screenshot of the final score?

Also, do you really need the top score? It sounds like if you do the double hit once, you prove its possible, and then can extrapolate.

Wait, so is it 29 traps or 30? And the headache I got reading that second topic only reminded me why I don't take Twin Galaxies seriously.

TAS = Tool-Assisted Scorerun... didn't you know that? ;)

The run must be a video posted on youtube and all of the 30 traps must be seen being hit by both bandits on screen. Each trap must be a double hit. No off screen hits because you can’t see that happening. Keep in mind that some traps can be used more than once. But every time they are used it must be a double hit on both bandits. 29 traps was a misprint. It really is 30.

Ten whole dollars, eh? I thought the internet was serious business but $10 doesn't seem very serious to me. You also seem pretty dumb. I have never played the game but if an off screen hit causes the score to go up, it can obviously be "seen" happening, just not visually. Also, why request a youtube video when you could just ask for the keypress file? (I eagerly await a some self-righteous diatribe against emulators and ROMs.)

They were saying that the score can only be seen when the game is paused, or something like that, which is where some of the confusion about what increased the score was coming from.

You can not hit two of them at the same time, just use an invincibility cheat (set $0038 to 00) and wait for them to come to where you are and use it, it only works on one of them. Here, download this less-than-one-megabyte AVI

Thank you so much for your help. I watched the video. Indeed if you just stand there both bandits will go to you and have the same exact position. When you set the trap only one gets hit. So proves that it cannot be done. Thank you again. This is what I really wanted to see. If it was even possible in the first place. Now I know that it is not.

If one of the problems is not being able to see the score update, it should be somewhat easy search for the memory address(es) that handle the score, and it would also be easy to display the score with a very simple lua script. Specifically, it looks like there's something weird going on with the score, unfortunately. It looks like there's no single memory address that handles it, so there's probably a few different ones that get added together. For example, $002B counts the seconds elapsed (which is multiplied by 10 and added to your score). I can't really figure it out, so I suppose I shouldn't have said "somewhat easy," but I'm sure that someone more experienced than myself could figure it out.

This thread can be closed. Everything has been solved. We now know for a fact that you cannot hit both bandits with a single trap. The $10.00 was going to be given if you could hit them both.

twingalaxies is certainly *not* the "official" score-keeper of anything. In fact they are nothing but a bunch of whining babies and it makes me kinda angry that anyone would give them any credit for anything at all, let alone calling then "the official" anything. For actual verifiable scores, see speeddemosarchive.com. /rant

Guinness World Records seems to consider them a reliable source of information... If that's not "official", I don't know what is.

By that, do you mean that they just take their word for it, or do they actually make them produce evidence (video, etc), then verify said evidence themselves? If they do that, then they're no more official than anyone else who can make evidence (videos, etc).

$10 is too much. He should have worked harder.

2011 started only 5 days ago but we already have the best post of the year. I 200% agree with what you said (meaning that not only I agree, but you've still been too kind with them, I would have said even worse things).
