and on a general note, you can hit SELECT while the CALL portrait (the triangular shape) is appearing on the bottom screen (before the character portrait appears on the top screen) to turn on skip mode before any text starts appearing. skip mode spends 2 frames (maybe 3?) on each page of text but does not speed up character transitions. and some "checkpoint" times on my current OK/COOL run (using the ingame timer as a reference and with SKIP mode enabled):

under a prior frame-by-frame (NOT recorded, unfortunately), I had over 4:30:00 left on the clock, but I had about 5 misses (a couple on the incision - switching render mode to SoftRasterizer fixed that one - and the left tooth was being a prick) so it's not the best possible by a significant amount. I'll have a (very unrefined) movie file up later today covering 1-1, I hope. currently trying to sort out why (exactly) shards 3 and 4 are giving me a GOOD result instead of COOL. update: Got the XS and All Cool/OK with 4:39:06 left, but there's definitely some adjustments that can be made to optimize this... problem is, I flat-out suck at minimizing frames, even on a Frame-By-Frame playthrough. Things I know from my run that can be improved:
  • Syringe technique is... well, shitty. I'm more efficient on the actual DS than on an emulator, to my own surprise. On the run, it took me from 4:58:23 to 4:50:04 to get the vitals up to 80.
  • I found out kinda late that Gelling can be done extremely fast on everything except the incisions (as in multiple OKs on the same exact frame). I discovered this when putting the bone back together, and I got 5 OKs simultaneously when gelling it, with the last OK a few frames later.
  • I dropped a bone fragment back onto the plate during reassembly, costing me some frames.
  • Need to figure out the most frame-efficient method of gelling the incision
  • Need to optimize the frames on everything that involves dragging. currently, I at least hold the position for 2 frames (that is, "drag to" on one frame, sustain for one frame), which is probably 1 frame longer than necessary. I found out that some of them can be done without waiting for that second frame.
the surprises I found mostly involved tool switching immediately after a call - in most cases, you can switch before the tools come onscreen, and this probably led to me getting one bone shard placed before Angie interrupting me to tell me to place the bone shards on the bone.

Since I removed the video, I might as well remove the link to it. Thusfar, the time saved from using 0.9.6 is far from insignificant; roughly 2 minutes 46 seconds after the 5th operation (which is how far I made it in 0.9.4, and effectively signifies the end of chapter 1). I decided to go with no healing touch outside of required instances, so we'll see how that pans out.

I'm going to be restarting using 0.9.6 as well, which is unfortunate since I had previously gotten up to the beginning of chapter 5. Edit: for anyone who cares, operation 3 is complete, and currently 6 seconds faster.

I actually looked at those earlier this week.... There's been a few trauma center TASes, and none of them have been as technically precise as mine. There was a Japanese player who has gone through a large chunk of the game, but his precision is very sloppy and all of my times from my old WIP are faster than his. The same applies for this user... Basically no one else has discovered the tricks that I've found for this game, and no one else works at the same level of precision that I do, so I'm not worried. If someone makes a hasty submission, I can post my old WIP's times to prove that it can be beaten faster. I've also not found anyone with the same level of precision as me to join as a partner; the only one is Atma, and he's working with Trauma Center 2.

If you were willing to teach then I would try to partner up. I tried to get to similar standards but you clearly have a much more precise working than I do. [edit] Seems FanofZelda450 is also doing a TAS. seemed pretty accurate.

Pretty accurate.... but still slightly slower than my times for my current WIP. But closer than anyone else. I'll shoot him a message, see if he wants to be partners.

it's funny how those scores don't beat the human records lol impressively quick though myself I find UtK2 a much better game, are there plans to TAS that?

Atma is working on UtK2. And Since we're aiming for fastest time with all Cools, score does not matter. This is reflected in how some ops in UtK1 won't have an S Rank, despite getting all Cool's. (In fact, one of the operations, I only got an S rank because of a strange glitch I discovered that's applicable only to that operation.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZy1-pg61II, it was posted on the previous page. Speed makes up a pretty reasonable part of the score, but things like suturing cuts and high vitals at the end are the main parts in some operations in order to S rank.

Sometimes when aiming for high score, you're going to stand there, waiting for the guilt to create more wounds for you to heal, increasing score. When I watched a speedrun for XS (or just S, dunno) on Savato, he stood at the ending just saturing wounds while Savato made more, instead of finishing the operation so his score would reach the S/XS level.

sure, that's another thing, but there are no more wounds to be created in the first two missions, the only thing I believe non-TAS records do there is bringing up the vitals to the max you can wound the patient yourself btw, that allows for 9999s on some missions, it's generally frowned upon but people still do it

It seems that our Op 1 times are the same, my Op 2 time is faster than yours, and your Op 3 is faster than mine. Your times are also faster than my old WIP (but that's to be expected). Perhaps you could come on as another partner, same as FanofZelda... Edit: What are your settings? When I play back your .DSM, I get a time of 4:54:88 in Op 1, 4:52:06 in Op 2, and then it desynchs at the beginning of Op 3. I'm assuming you use 9.6, but what are the settings? do you have BUS timing on or off?

Hi! Yes, "Enable Advanced Bus-Level Timing" is checked under Emulation settings, but I think that's all.
