TAS Sonic the Hedgehog 3 "Competition" by GGheysJr

I made a movie competition with vs knuckles. sonic. The controls to the 2 to have more entertainment

Emulator used: Gens 11b + S3KCamhack + SolidityViewer + (partial)HitboxDisplay + LUA HUD for Genesis Sonic games
  • Controller 1: 6 button
  • Controller 2: 6 button
  • Allow Up+Down: Yes
  • Sound: Enabled, 44100KhZ Stereo, YM2612 High Quality enabled

Game Objetives
  • Aims for fastest possible time.
  • One player controller 2 players
  • Manipulates luck.
  • Genre: Platform.

Comments: In this game you have to go 5 levels. The explain each
  • Azure Lake: at this level is difficult, but with 2 players is more fun
  • Balloon Park: I used a very good decision that I found out by the video NEXT
  • Chrome Gadget: It was time ungran
  • Desert Palace, Endless Mine: cost pass in those levels, but not

Time table:
StagesThis timePlayer
Azure Lake17.31Knuckles
Azure Lake17,74Sonic
Balloon Park04.38Knuckles
Balloon Park06.00Sonic
Chrome Gadget22.36Knuckles
Chrome Gadget28.38Sonic
Desert Palace23.46Knuckles
Desert Palace24,17Sonic

FractalFusion: Judging.
FractalFusion: First of all, I liked how both Sonic and Knuckles were used in this movie. It seems to me a rather interesting concept, one which could be entertaining.
However, I would like to analyze "Aims for fastest time" with "have more entertainment", which appear to conflict with each other:

Aims for fastest time

Yes, you say "Aims for fastest time". But everyone knows that this movie does not care to aim for fastest time. In order to aim for fastest time properly, it is necessary to do research. For example, #2169: upthorn's Genesis Sonic 3 & Knuckles in 02:38.15 has times for Sonic which are lower than those here for both Sonic and Knuckles, without considering the stage glitches. One must actively seek to beat those times, not just play.
Now even when aiming for fastest time, it may be possible to fit in something entertaining. However, I think this game mode is so short that entertainment and fastest time conflict each other.

Entertainment

If you are going for entertainment, why does Sonic stop and do nothing in two stages? Certainly, it's not something I would call entertaining. I'd prefer mostly that Sonic and Knuckles are going together, side-by-side as if one person was controlling both of them at the same time. It doesn't always have to be that way, and it's very hard to do, but that to me would be most impressive. Also, it can still be fast, just not fastest time.
In conclusion, I'm rejecting the run. However, if you did a run that focused on entertainment, I'd say it is good to be accepted. If it weren't for the two stages where Sonic did nothing, I could have accepted this run.

Into the site recently saw this presentation and I saw, but not I like me because the times of the are very slow zones, despite Balloon Park and Chrome Gadget is fast, but I recommend you cancel to improve the time and if codificare need it But my vote was meh

The Chrome Gadget time seems better than what Nitsuja achieved in the thread linked by sgrunt. It was the only level he couldn't glitch.

Voting no. I didn't like that Sonic sometimes did stuff, while other times didn't do stuff. Not to mention competition mode is boring as hell to begin with.

No. Only one of the levels was impressive. The rest looked sloppy and very improvable.

Even if everything were perfect, I'm not sure this category merits publishing, ever. Competition mode is just... tacky.

Ditto with respect to Mario Kart. Game is just tacky, folks.

I suppose I should have elaborated. Competition mode is an extra mode added to the game, and while the idea was nice, the mode lacks polish. One might even say it was, perhaps, tacked on as an afterthought. At any rate, unlike a TAS of, say, Mario Kart, I really don't know how this can be made to be entertaining. YMMV, and I'm no judge, so who knows?

Sonic just sorta stood there too much. Doesn't make it very entertaining.

Why didn't Sonic continue to compete? Makes this very boring. No competition if there's not two competitors, right? Voting NO on this one. Hopefully you don't give up, but present us another, more entertaining, run in the future. Good luck! :)

The reasoning for this, if I understand it right, is to hold Chrome Gadget's elevator down to eliminate the wait for it, and then to prevent the destroyable blocks in Endless Mine from respawning. In both cases, it's sacrificing entertainment for time.

It's because I was in time attack mode (which is possibly the only mode that people should use for time comparisons) and thus couldn't make one of the "competing" players stand around in order to speed up the other player's laps.

I posted my GMV next to those times, btw. I'm sure they're improvable.

I 100% agree with this, I don't like these runs made with two players in Grand Prix mode with items and bonus. It should be one player only, in Time Attack mode, with no bonus items. Sadly I also agree that a TAS of these competition levels doesn't have a high entertainment value per se (even if I am a Sonic fan, there is a certain point where you have to draw the line and say no).

It's 39.27 seconds slower than the other movie that was rejected. http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10276&view=next This movie is quite inprovable.
