It's been pointed out to me that the publication guidelines currently stipulate that in the case of non-speed-oriented movies, "-playaround" should be used instead of "-tas". This has only been loosely enforced in the past (cf. International Super Star Soccer Deluxe) and there's some question as to whether this should continue to be the case. I personally think "tas" can be interpreted as "tool-assisted superplay" and applied to all videos; "-playaround" does not necessarily suggest tool assistance. Thoughts?

Well... I keep forgetting that the guideline even exists. I'm for removing it.

What if there is a playaround and TAS of the same game though?

In that case, "playaround" can be specified as a branch, e.g. "-tas-playaround". This is mostly for the case of games which don't lend themselves to speedruns, such as Brain Age.

I think that separating -playaround and -tas in this way is a good idea. Having the extra -tas-playaround only when there is a movie of both sorts is more confusing.

Wouldn't this be a good opportunity to restart the file renaming project which was suggested quite some time ago?

Not exactly - this deals with encode filenames, whereas the movie renaming project was aimed at input filenames.

I was under the impression that the renaming project was aimed at both, ie the record files and the avi files. (After all, it only makes sense that both files are named the same, save the extension.)

It started with input, but expanded to both. Also, I would like it if the rename project were restarted. We had almost reached a consensus.

The renaming project DID reach a consensus it stalled when nobody could come up with a way to script such a naming scheme retroactively. As for playaround, I like the idea of distinguishing between fastest time runs and ...well... playaround movies. However, I can understand the importance of them still being labeled as tool-assisted. Perhaps playaround should be the category name instead? gamex-tas-playaround-author.mp4?
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects

I've always supported this guideline, and as such I have in the past named playarounds in such a way for my encodes. however, I also feel that replacing 'tas' with 'superplay' is less than ideal. Perhaps both should be used in the case of a playaround. Also, I dislike that because you forget to use it, you therefore feel it must be removed...
<adelikat> I am annoyed at my irc statements ending up in forums & sigs

@adelikat: I didn't know that we had reached that point. It's never mentioned within the thread.
