I just viewed once again for the 266:th time, Jecy's tool-assisted 100% run and still get so amazed by that son of a gun ;) People claimed that he fooled around in his run and also that you could get a better time (for instance Zoizite claimed it) but still I have not seen anybody been near to get a faster 100% tool-assisted run than Jecy. But why? Remember when I for several months ago (when this thread was created) wrote that Jecy's run IS THAT DAMN GOOD? well it's still that damn good. I havent noticed anyone mentioning to improve Jecy's run. Further, lets assume that Jecy actually did fool around in his run, now try to imagine if he one day recollects himself and decides to do a highly serious run? Could we possibly even think what time he would get? Because I remember peoples expression when his run was spread around the "timeattack and speedrun" community and many people at that time was so freakin amazed by his run. And his run is still the best (within the tool-assisted community). He showed alot of nice and blow-your-mind tricks (compared to smokey's and red scarlet's run that they certainly did not use in their run).

Actually, Jecy's movie is pretty flawed and doesn't use lots of glitches/advanced techniques (see Teri's damage boost method). Granted, the movie is awesome and I love every bit of it, but it is improvable by at least 1 minute. Just talk to BoltR, he knows.

I'd say even Teri's run can be improved by 60+ seconds :O) Jecy's can be improved by well over five minutes. I'm working hard on my run now guys, had to backtrack four minutes just to re-do a room and save 2 seconds. I'm that dedicated...

Good luck mr Flatley. I hope you have the stamina to go trough all of it. I've really enjoyed the Super Metroid runs so far even though I never played the game when it was new.

It's not so much how long this run is. The problem is that I keep starting it over because I later figure out some trick that makes the run faster. I've restarted the whole run 4 times now. This has been an ongoing project for many many months. I only have a few minutes every day but the run is slowly coming together. I do something different in almost every room of the game so expect some entertainment. Also, I hope nobody else releases a run that has tricks I haven't implemented. I don't want to have to keep starting this over!

The best way to avoid restarts is to do what Viper7 did in his epic Super Mario World time attack. Outline your plans, post frequent updates, and discuss.

But Super Metroid isn't as easy to hexedit as Super Mario World, meaning you still will have too redo most of what you've done after tthe point where something new was discovered But still, it would be nice with a new project ;)

Jecy's run could be improved by 1 minute that is acceptable and sounds logic but by over 5 minutes?? Show it! Or prove me wrong because like I said before, he's run is to me flawless so I would be very amazed if someone could improve his run by over 5 minutes. I doubt it. But of course if you could manage it then I would be pretty much devestated because I have all this time thought for myself that Jecy's run is the ultimate run and it is until someone obviously improves it. Good luck!

How many people thought that the current Rockman movies were the ultimate timeattacks for the games? How much faster are the current runs in progress? Exactly.

Zurreco, it takes Jecy ~36 seconds to beat Phantoon. I beat him in UNDER FOUR. That's over half a minute right there and I've got another 30 seconds of improvement in the wrecked ship also. There is your minute in just one small segment of the game. Of course I'll prove it, but only when the run is finished :O) feitclub, I'd rather keep all my tricks secret until the big release :O)

I think TSA said it best (from the SDA forums):

For all the bashing of "tool-assisted" runs, I thought by now people would learn a lesson from them - teamwork pays off. Sure, you can hate their products - but you can not deny the dedication and discussion of routes and tricks that lead to the videos are simply great. While they pool their resources for the best video possible, speed runners (some) still squander about secrets and tricks.

I agree that keeping these things secret is pretty pointless. I have a question: Are you aiming for real-time fastest, or in-game-time fastest? (Just wondering. I think Terimakasih was aiming to minimize in-game time.)

It's not pointless. I've done projects where I shared my work and took input. The net result is that when the end product comes out most everyone has already seen the segments and is not that impressed. When I spend this much time on something I want EVERYONE to enjoy it fully. That's the only reason I trick out games. I'm doing this run to show what I can come up with by myself and I want it to entertain you. You may say I've copied some tricks from others (which I have), but most of my tricks are my own. I started recording this run with spike/enemy knockback many months before this was ever revealed on the net. I'll give credit in my vid to the author of every trick that isn't mine. By the way, I am open to routes/bugs/advice. PLEASE SEND ME ADVICE!!! You can keep it anonymous by emailing me or post it here. You won't find out if your advice is used until the release and you'll of course get full credit in the vid. This will be much more than your name mentioned in the credits. You'll have to wait and see how I implement this :O) I'm aiming for fastest in-game-time. Not that it will ever occur but if I have to use the equipment menu 3 times to save a second I will. I want that final time in minutes to be the lowest it possibly can be. You will eventually see why the actual play time of the vid is irrelevant. Cheers and thanks for the support.

Terimakasih did both. *edit - uh I misread, I was thinking that you said lowest % run and fastest time*

But that in the real entertainment question he chose the one that gives 1 second of in-game benefit over the one that gives benefit in real time & entertainment (whether or not to use the murder beam in the last boss).

I have not yet decided whether I'm going to use the murder beam. This is the one glitch where I think I'm going to say no. It looks horrible. I'll only use it if it makes a difference when the seconds are rounded to minutes. I may even find a faster way to beat mother brain, too...

It sounds really interesting, as this is one of my favourites. If you wont post your progress as a smv, can't you at least now and then mention the progress youv'e made?

I've defeated Phantoon and have perfected a few rooms after him. I'm currently having speedrunners-block and just can't figure out a solution to a problem I'm having. I have exactly enough health to do one trick or another. I can't do both without slowing down to gain health. I haven't slowed down for item collection so far and I'm not willing to start quite yet. I believe a solution does exist but will require much thought and insane timing. Anyway, I've recorded further than this in previous runs and basically have my path planned out back to my ship where I will refuel. I'm not certain but I believe I'll be at my ship in under 15 minutes (the Chozo statue in the wrecked ship is a large waste of time). That means I'm ~5 minutes ahead of Red Scarlet's run with ~2/3 of the run to go. A very rough estimate would be just under 40 minutes for the completion time of my run. I will, however, be accelerating my lead on this run when I collect more items. I'm currently hindered by my low health. More energy tanks will allow me to do so much more than I'm currently capable of.

Can't you use crystal flash in order to regenerate health enough to pull some nifty trick off? However that will slow you down a bit. :(

I don't know, but some folks on IRC were skeptical about this whole thing. They wondered why you would run out of health so fast, and why it would take you 15 minutes to get back to the ship. Stuff like that. We were also wondering if the new tricks were something like left+right, inverse wall jump, spacetime beam, or whatever. I just think a lot of people have been confused by what Michael Flatley's been saying lately.

Err.. 15 minutes is when he gets back to the ship. Means that the game only has been running for ~15min or something like that. And thats FAST I think.

Well, provided he isn't using a completely different route. Getting back to the ship after a Phantoon fight in 15 minutes would make him ~23 minutes faster than Jecy's up to that point, fast indeed. Also, if you need health so bad why aren't you just manipulating health out of the enemies that are directly in your path. Refilling in your ship wastes a bunch of time, and really shouldn't be necissary...

He does have an eye for tricks; provided it's the same person, which seems probable since I remember old posts about a Metroid run on the snes9x forums. Also, if he's at phantoon in 15 mins, I'd guess there's some fancy sequence breaking involved. The movie, or lack of one, will tell.
