Contra is about a game with two heroes, Bill and Lance, of one mission: eliminate the alien invaders. Also known as Gryzor in Japan, it is known to be one of the most popular run-and-gun games that we know today. The game starts with the player given the peashooter, and he must eliminate the boss at the end of the level.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used:FCEUX 2.1.4a
  • Played with only peashooter w/ items

An SDA run beats out a TAS submission = No vote + gruefood.
When TAS does Quake 1, SDA will declare war. The Prince doth arrive he doth please.

Voting No. Does not beat a console play through of the game with the same restrictions. Also 54 re-records? That's very low. I recommend that you open / participate in a topic at the NES forum about this so that you can post WIPs there and get feedback on those. Saves you a lot of time from making poor submissions and it does not clog the submission system with unnecessary gruefood.

Furthermore, our pacifist TAS only uses the peashooter and is a lot faster than this. tormed, please read the welcome page for this site. (The FAQs are also a good idea.) Also, search for previously published and submitted movies in order to see what people have already done. It seems you still don't understand what this site is all about.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.

Man... Doesn't matter how many rerecords you use in your movies. Just need to be a great TAS for to be published.

I second this. In fact, I think that, in general, a TAS submission by a user having no published runs should go through some kind of a quick pre-approval by a judge (not the actual judging) before being subjected to scrutiny in the forums, especially if said user's status is "lurker", i.e. zero forum activity. Maybe a new user rank could be established for this purpose, to lighten the burden on the judges. Just a thought.

I don't think it's a good idea to make it harder for new people to submit their first movie. Sometimes we have these kind of submissions from people misunderstanding what kind of movies this site aims for, but sometimes we also have brilliant submissions for lurkers and first-time posters. There's a risk we miss some of these... and the bad submissions aren't that much of a problem to handle.

It's fun to hazzle people, let them submit. Er, I mean, most people know how to behave. So don't punish people who do know how to behave.

This is a pretty rare case. Sure, it has "gotten worse" over the past few years, but the community has grown and I think that the ratio of insta-grue to actual runs has stayed the same. There is really no reason to change anything if you ask me.

To be honest I actually do kind of like seeing the occasional bogus submission (and "hazzles" that follow), as it kind of mixes it up a bit and makes the queue feel more "raw". When I suggested this I was thinking that it'd also possibly be for the good of the submitter, to force a lurker to know at least the basic idea of TASvideos before submitting a bogus run... but I concede that I would miss that "raw" quality if things did change. =)
