Hello. This a Tool Assisted Speedrun of the game Decap Attack for the Genesis.

About the Game

This game has a deep back story behind the scenes actually. Its so deep that I cant cover it here.

About the Run

This is a 29.02 second improvement over wwmarx run.
RAM Addresses
00FFE018-Boss HP
00FF8038-X Velocity

Possible Improvements

Not too many. Maybe the most improvements could come out of 6-3. But I'm not sure.

Thanks to

wwmarx - For his run.
Cardboard - For his unfinished WIP, Which showed some new shortcuts I used.

adelikat: Accepting as an improvement to the published movie.

A sound improvement, which has a decidedly more optimised feel than the previous run of this game. I paid close attention to 6-3 and didn't see any gaping flaws, although it did indeed seem slightly sloppier than other levels (it's not something I can seem to put my finger on). In any case, yes vote.

I am at loss of words as to how optimized this run is. It's way smoother than I thought this game would ever be. Totally awesome work.

You improved the blows on bosses. Nice work. Yes, of course.

Awesome comic pages, Cardboard! As for the run, could somebody explain a little bit about the items you grab? It seems like you have to grab something in 1-3, 2-3, etc... what does this affect? However, very nice improvements. Yes vote.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:

I'll take this one.
Cardboard's old tactics file wrote:
Red Bottle: Smart Bomb. Bombs all enemies on screen. Fairly useless unless it causes severe damage to bosses. Blue Bottle: 10 seconds of invulnerability Yellow Bottle: Ball of Light, homing missile. Should be saved against bosses Green Bottle: Freezes enemies for 10 seconds Red Vial: Faster Movement, Higher Jump for 10 seconds Brown Bottle: STR and Reach up for 10 seconds B-Coins: Bonus Level Coins? Finishing a x-3 level with a bonus coin allows for a bonus game to be played. I have yet not tried if it is faster to finish a level with only one bonus coin to see if the Bonus Game can be finished faster than the "LOL YOU HAVE NO COINS"-jingle
I also noticed that this game has been with me throughout all of my versions of Gens, lol.

I think what mklip's referring to is that special item you need to find in each of the n-3 levels. You know, the one that stops everything and plays a little jingle when you grab it. For the record, I believe the item serves no actual gameplay purpose, apart from the fact that you're not allowed to exit the level without it.

PCachu got what I was asking about, though thanks as well to Cardboard for a power-up list!

Here's a testrun I made of the Japanese version of the game if someone wants to see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-6iNH-QBz8 The game is a lot different from the american version. The TAS is much longer because there are places where you have to wait a lot for the flying thing (and there are some other differences too). It's a bit strange because it isn't even hard to avoid getting hit by it, and you just have to wait there unnecessarily. There is a one-second mistake at 19:59 and it's a bit unoptimized overall. It's a pretty easy game to max out because you have maximum speed all the time, and nothing can be done to increase it.
