A question - is there any way to kill the second player a little now and then without the level restarting? That would be faster than having him die all his lives at once in the bugged level.

yea i was thinking of that.... its has to be thought now what is the best place to kill player 2 O_o btw, i'm thinking of doing level 6 by controlling only player 1 (carrying player 2 around and throwing him on the snake, lol its possible i've done it on my NES and it looks funny "oh player 2 has fainted")

If we knew that will happen, since normal games doesn't have this kind of bug, the worst, we could have done something for that. I have already done a 2P game but it was for Genesis and doesn't have this bug so ...

hmm, well probably. But probably new bugs ;). Though, they are surely not as important as the NES ones. :)

level 4 is soooo hard to record, i think levels 4, 8, 9 and 12 will be a real pain to record the way i would like to. oh well.

yea, i'm doing it really frame by frame. i have to think what buttons i want to press for each frame, save and then advance :S except for level 3 bikes which i did at 6% speed. even then, sometimes i mess up, i press right on controller 2 thinking i'm pressing right on controller 1 hehehe its easy to get confused

It can't just be "jump into the pit in level 1" though. It can be made entertaining. Like smashing him into a wall in level 3. I forget what happens though; does the other player keep going? If so, it's a nice seemless way to off him.

Unfortunately, it always goes back to the last checkpoint, or, in the lack of one, to the start of the level. And after all lives are lost, it goes back to the start of the level, despite having reached checkpoints. (level 2 is an exception, the game continues untill someone loses all the lives) hmmm.... level 3 on the part without bikes its possible to quickly lose some lives.... damn i think its the best place to lose lives. i'll have to redo it O_O unless some of the later levels allow easy life losing....

Sorry I'm late on this. You can cut a few seconds off of the present (27:33) run by making sure you're right at the bottom of the screen at the end of level 2. Unlike most (All?) of the other levels, it cuts to the cinema screen as soon as your Toad scrolls off the screen. Being at the bottom for that = less scroll time.

I presume you're using the warps in levels 1, 4, and 6, correct? If so, then yes, Level 3 before the bikes is probably the best place to do it. Your other options (Which won't send you back to a checkpoint) are level 2, and boss fights at the end of levels 1, 8, and 10. Also, if you're going purely for speed, you'll want to look into distributing points+1-ups better than the current video does--I know in that one, Player 2 arrives at level 11 with MORE points/lives than player 1, which is a bit of a waste if you think about it. EDIT: Yeah, if you're using warps, we can strike both levels 1 and 2 as viable places to lose lives. If you Boot Scuzz in level 10, we can take that out as well. This leaves level 3 and the level 8 boss fight.

i killed player 2 in level 3, now he has no lives left, and it cost me 98 frames comparing to the wip i had (time needed for both toads to touch the bike, where autoscrolling starts)

doing level 4 now, more than halfway through it. this cant be classified as "no damage" right? because player 2 dies. so, i think i'm gonna make them hit each other on some places where i can, to give them some personality :) also because the way i plan to do level 6 (player 2 carrying and throwing player 1 around, like hes dead) will do a little damage to him. but it will be faster because i will throw player 1 on the hole and then jump in (i think both need to go in)

i have bad news. i tested battletoads (J) and the game has a select 1 player or 2 plaeyr mode at start, and the game is badly altered on almost every level to make it easier. both players start with 5 lives and... level 11 allows 2 players.... O_o sigh... what do i do? - U = harder game, ending in english, but i have to lose 91 frames on level 3 to suicide player 2 and then lose almost 15 secs to suicide player 2 on level 11. - J = easy game, allows 2 players on level 11 but ending is in japanese O_o.... this one will be faster indeed, but its easier and in jap. WHAT DO I DO, OH GOD....

I say stick with the American version, it's what everyone knows and the difficulty of it is what makes the timeattack so entertaining. -Josh
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

The player 2 bug is a big minus for the US version, but I would say go for it anyway. The difficulty is what makes this game interesting. Probably a lot of people would be turned off if Battletoads was done on an easier version than they remembered. Oh, and the video so far was great. Very funny in many places too.

alright continued recording. finished level 8, this time i REALLY got to luck manipulate robo manus (much better than my 1p run...) poor little guy cant even move, the toads beat the crapola outta him! 6:40 mins so far at end of level 8. (against 7:26 of current run) now another long level 9, then 10th level will be 5x faster than current 2p run, then level 11. i will hopefully have player 2 still under 100.000 points so i will only have to lose 1 life (player 2 has 97.200 points right now, he cant get no more points on levels 9 and 10 or else the auto point bonus for vehicle levels will make him get an extra life, big loss of time)

a little late on this, but depending on how the checkpoints of level 9 work (If you're lucky, only the first person past the checkpoint gets the bonus), he may have to earn extra points. :( And I agree, stick with the American version. I actually downloaded the Japanese ROM awhile ago, and you're right, it's so much easier than the American that I honestly don't even consider it the same game. Having said that, consider that the auto-scrolling parts tend to move slower in the Japanese version (You'll be most affected here by level 3, which you have to do all of if you want the level 4 warp), and I'm honestly not sure the time difference will be as great as you think it would be anyway.
