The goal of such a run is to collect as many items as possible without fighting any bosses. The first boss (not Ridley) is an exception because it's impossible to get anywhere without the morph ball bombs. (At least, I THINK you get the morph ball bombs on that boss.) A run like this would be full of cool tricks and difficult maneuvers, so it could be interesting. But it wouldn't have a defined ending, because it's impossible to complete the game under these conditions.

But still, it is for the fans. And it is cool as hell to watch.

yes but if i remember correctly, one of the rules at this site is that a video must end at the ending, so it wouldnt be published here ( not sure if this is correct btw )

Oh, sorry about that. Not many girl pro-gamers out there. But I still wonder if her run is on console or emulator. And I would still like to ee a perfect run. =)

Red Scarlet only plays on console. I don't think I fully understand the point of this run. You mean you play the game trying to get the most items possible without fighting any bosses or mini-bosses after the chozo statue? Why would someone want to make this run?

You may want to check the 14% run, if you haven't already. The only boss items it collects are the Varia and Gravity suits(it doesn't even collect the Space Jump).

I have seen all runs. I don't think you fully understand. Download the run I linked to. There are mighty tricks in that movie and it is not too long either. I would like to see that run made perfect. Because that would really be art.

Why won't you try it yourself? I agree that it'd be pretty cool to watch, since I enjoyed Scarlet's run.

For those interested, I'm producing a 100% run. It will be significantly faster than the current record (five+ minutes faster). It will also have a few useful tricks that will easily aid an any-percent run. I'm at Phantoon if that gives any idea as to how much more I have to do. Expect things you've never seen in a Super Metroid speedrun.

If you don't mind me asking, what benchmark are you using. Because there isn't a 100% Super Metroid Run posted at this site. And if you're compairing it to the current legit world record then that isn't that much of an improvement. EDIT: I'm not knocking the current record holder, I'm just saying that on a movie of that length little stuff can add up quick.

I'm not sure why you posted this here, and not in the Super Metroid thread on the SNES forums, but ok... I hope beating Jecy's time 5 minutes is just a guess... You should be able to save that amount of time by not screwing around with, and later saving the animals ALONE. Adding the new tricks in Terimakasih's run, and playing more accurately I would say you should aim for improving the run by more than 10 minutes. This is without knowledge of what you claim has "never [been] seen in a Super Metroid speedrun". So if what has never been seen before is where you are saving your 5 minutes, then I would say it should be 15 minutes faster. Also, from what i've heard/read your run is played in zsnes. Just giving you a heads up that we don't accept zsnes movies to be published here... Edit: Omni the ingame time is 47 minutes, and the avi's length is 1:25. It's the "Samus Aran" run by Jecy. You can find it on archive.org

I'm using Jecy's 47 minute run as a benchmark. Yes, "stuff can add up quickly". Have you seen his run, though? His run is 8 minutes faster than the current non-emulated record and you are telling me shaving off another 5 minutes is not tough? BoltR, you think screwing around/saving the animals is five minutes? No no no... You think I can improve the run another 15 minutes? Do you realize that is within five minutes of the any% run? Come on now, that's expecting too much. Thanks for the heads up on the zsnes info, though. I don't care what emulators are accepted here, I have many people who will host my vid. I don't see why one emulator is accepted over another when the game physics are the same... BTW, when I say I have things that have never been seen in a SM speedrun I'm not just refering to the actual gameplay. You'll have to wait and see the vid to understand how my vid will be different.

Because we want perfect run and Zsnes, currently, doesn't support rerecording.

Because I don't think it explicitly support recording from restart. I think he was referring to total movie length, not in game. But I wouldn't be surpised if you could shave off at least 8-10 minutes off the ingame completion. Because Teri's run was 27 minutes, but the realtime was 47 minutes long. At any rate you probably need to make sure that you at least match Teri on the escape parts. Otherwise you probably aren't getting published. (Even if you do use SNES9X)

Yes, I have seen Jecy's run, and yes I know that it's currently 8 minutes faster then the current unemulated run. Hell I have even created part of a 100% Super Metroid emulated run myself. I also know that Teri's any percent run is 9 minutes faster than the current non-emualted run, and blew Frenom's old emulated run out the water, by 5 minutes (it used to be 32 minutes). Frenom's run was also very good, and atleast on par with Jecy's. While I suppose 15 minutes game time maybe abit much, I think you can do better than 5-7 minute improvement. Although you were right about his time messing around with the animals, it only took up ~1.5 minutes. Although my point still stands, there is alot of improving that can be done. For example: Teri's escape is 1.07 seconds faster then Jecy's. The time spent getting to Ridley is also quite a bit slower too. Jecy also doesn't use the murder beam against bosses, and loses time there. Jecy also has a longer Phantoon battle, though i'm not sure exactly by how much. The list of slower things goes on. Hell, Jecy loses time on Teri just by the way he enters some doors...

If you'll note I did say "five+ minutes faster". I'm not going to promise something I can't do. I KNOW I can best his time by five minutes. That is the minimum. Let's all wait and see what I can do. I'm honestly trying to break 40 minutes but I have no clue if it is possible. My escape from the space colony is faster than Teri's by a relatively large amount of time, if it is really that important. I must have spent an entire day on the escape. Worked for every hundredth of a second - as I'm doing with every room...

I just figured out a way to save seven seconds in one room and two seconds in the next (compared to Teri's run)! Applies to all types of runs. I'm very excited about this :O)
