Even if MupenPlus eventually does come out with a real version it's unlikely that the current segment already TAS'ed won't be very obsolete due to new strategies being developed(like the new rupee-route, it'd be wrong not to expect more). So whether the run will have soft reset or not, it'll be obsolete, perhaps even more than it'll be if done right now.

It'd be nice if you could finish it before you consider it not worth finishing at all anymore for whatever reason (f.e. new improvements). Would be a pitty.

I mean, the run will most likely be improved if soft reset button was added anyway. I really would hate to see a run not being made due to politics. I've been waiting to see this full run for a long time.

Yeah you guys should really face it by now. Mupen+ is not coming. You can wait another 99 years and the TAS still won't be complete because of the missing reset. Just do the run now and should mupen+ ever come out (which I highly doubt) you can still just redo the child part and hex in the adault part. Not _that_ big of a deal.

Due to OoT's strange luck manipulation its doubtful that the adult part could be hexed in, but regardless at this point it is doubtful that rerecording will come out in the emulator anytime soon and even then longer b4 it is ported to the windows build. Therefore you shouldn't let that hold you guys bak. On the other hand it is your TAS and I guess it is your choice on how to proceed, just my 2cents.

100% sure, you can't hex in the adult part ;) just think about the stalfos mega flip just because I entered the room 1 frame earlier, he behaved completely differently swordless should do the MM run first, before thinking about OoT again. he is working on the MM run for such a long time already and it is just time, that he finishes. the MM TAS is also way too awesome now, so Mm definately before OoT :P

I don't think there is any Luckmanipulation in the adault-part. You would probably have to redo the Ganon fight but that should be all... Though I concur that SL should do MM first. But I haven't seen him in a while anyway. My theorie is that Lostzilla ate him on the flight back to the UK... :D

Fact: If we do just go on without the reset, MupenPlus will come out like a week after we finish the run. Fact: As much as you may deny it, if someone submitted a near-identical run which used a reset instead of a deathwarp, it would be published, which is a huge slap in the face.
If the movie is already done, then not submitting it would be a waste of work. You might as well throw your own pizza away because you know someone else's pizza will taste better if/when it's done.

Nope there hasn't been any, but we're getting around to it. The primary reason we weren't progressing before was due to us being under the impression that a new Mupen would be being released rather shortly, and that lowered the run's priority, and we all have other things we could be doing instead of rushing a run that wasn't necessarily needing to be rushed. Now that the we are no longer under that impression, the run's priority has risen and we will continue the run, but we plan on testing a few more things before we do. So nobody assume that the run isn't being continued because we don't want anybody to beat it with resets later; it's just a matter of what other activities we have and where the run's priority is at. At least that's my opinion on this... Hopefully one of us will get around to testing some of these route changes in the next couple of days and we'll get the run going

Is this new new forest escape faster than the old one when TASing? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95vi_S8ADII

I did a rough comparison and the old method still seems to be about 10-15 seconds faster assuming the deku stick is acquired in both cases. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
(The 'old method' refers to megaflipping out of the lost woods.) The video you linked is a bit different, but since you have to go to the shop anyway, it still seems slower. The Saria cutscene is quite lengthy.

my forest escape via ESSing is the quickest way to escape the forest for the all temples TAS. we come from the shopso ESSing is the quickest way over to the kokiri guy. for the RBA TAS the old escape via hovering still seems to be quickest, because it skips the ocarina the most recent way is only useful for non-TAS Single Segment runs, because it is really easy to do compared to all the other ways

Since apparently this recorded reset thing is holding up the whole run, could someone please remind me what exactly is so wrong with Mupen's current recorded reset?

IIRC the reset command does 2 things. 1) In Windows, it resets the emulator, not just the ROM. Which is not how resetting is supposed to work. 2) in Linux, the reset command causes Mupen to close. (I think)

Ah, which brings us to question 2...how is resetting the emulator any different from resetting the ROM? Is it merely the distinction between switching the N64 on and off vs pressing the "reset" button on the N64, or is there more to it than that?

I'm not that good in figuring things out... But afaik would the reset of the whole emulator cause desynchs on mass. When only the ROM is reseted, there aren't any desynchs. Right? xD

the current reset recording causes lots of weird desynching, so using it is out of the door at least, this is what happened in MM

can't you just close the ROM and open it again?
Gets made fun of for still playing his NES and N64

No, that's not the point or the problem. What you're suggesting is pretty much turning off the N64, yanking out the cartridge, sticking it back in, then turning it on. What they want to do is basically hit the reset button, but the emulator is not working that way - it's working as if you quick turn the system off then back on. This causes the playback file to desync.
