This is a sidestroller, speedwalk, or whatever you want to call it. This is also an improvement to the Submission #2344 of adelikat. It's 6 frames faster measuring the length of the input file. Here is the old improvement list: I got the mushroom in 8-2 (adelikat did it in 8-3) I saved 42 frames in 8-3 I got hurt in 8-4, the flying fish segment, got in the pipe earlier.
I improved the action in 8-4 of taking damage from a fish. I used improvement from klmz demo, saved 2 more frames.
I stoped the movie at the axe, too.
There is no improvement before 8-2 in this movie. You have to kill few enemies to get the bullet earlier. I think the bullet in 8-3 is the closest situation.
To adelikat: This isn't funny, you know. I won't give up, because I have few records, but you have a lot. You don't have to fight with me on this one.
Thanks to klmz for teaching me the skill.

I have nothing to say about this. Just 2 frames faster... I'll try harder.

klmz said himself that his new trick was unoptimized, so this will probably be beatable.

In the future please just link to your updated movies so we don't need multiple threads within a few days by the same author. An admin can updated a submission with a faster movie. Link to your updated movies: Here Copied from other thread: I'm all about fast runs, but an obsoleted run shouldn't be taken so personally. Adelikat set out to improve the walkathon putting a lot of effort into entertainment. You found another small time improvement and threw a movie together to "keep your record." Adelikat was informed of another small technical improvement and put it into his movie. It's really not about who has the title, it's about having a good run on the site. I think adelikat's run is more entertaining mostly because you jump and face backwards too much. A faster movie is also better, so I want both. I vote for putting HappyLee's improvements in adelikat's movie and putting the result as Andrewg, HappyLee, klmz, Adelikat's NES Super Mario Bros in XX:XX.XX I don't care what order the authors are in. Someone roll dice or something to figure it out. It shouldn't matter. This site isn't about good Mario players, it's about good Mario movies. Giving recognition to the main contributors is important, but being "the record holder" is not. Adelikat made the most entertaining movie with Andrewg's trick, HappyLee found a trick to improve it. klmz contributed another trick. If anyone finds any improvements in the next week add their name to the list. Maybe do HappyLee's fortress and adelikat's rest of the movie, I don't really care. As it is, HappyLee's movie has way too much jumping, and adelikat's movie is currently slower. HappyLee, Adelikat, klmz and Andrewg would have to agree to this though. To further make this point, klmz provided the most recent improvement, so why should either of you deserve to have the publication to yourself. Can we reach some sort of agreement before anyone makes a new submission?

^ that. this is one of the few occasions where I wholeheartedly agree with PS on this one. I'm not going to watch until you are absolutely sure that this is the fastest and most entertaining movie that can possibly be done without holding B. Until then, I'm going to wait until the next submission.

You're right. I will try my best to make a perfect SMB sidestroller. But, I have no time now, and a few great people want to break it, so I guess I have no choise. That's not my style.

Thank you Kirkq for laying out all the issues clearly. Seriously, I support everything he just said concerning entertainment, speed, and making movies for pride.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. Improved 8-4! Not submitting yet. I think this could be improvable, but I'm not sure. I have been discussing things with klmz and adelikat lately about improvements and we are all still testing things.

Competition is healthy, as long as neither side takes things too seriously. HappyLee seems to be, but that's hardly anyones fault but his own. In the end, I just hope that the more entertaining movie wins out

You highlighted the wrong word. Your synopsis is extremely biased by your opinion. I honestly don't care who wins this frame war, but I thought both had entertaining moments. Its pretty clear past 8-2, HappyLee changed his technique, from what he learned from the Extra Mario Bros submission. Before 8-2, I'm pretty sure its identical to the current published run, which no one said he jumped too much... until now. His current run has wobble running, adelikat does not. I found that entertaining. Also, adelikat bested him by 3 frames, and he in turn bested adelikat by 2. It takes 2 to tango. Lets try and stop from making opinion sound like fact. Whoever wins the frame war, wins. Both are doing their best to add entertainment to the runs.

Actually, I paid a little homage to Happy Lee and put a moment of this in 8-4 of my last submission. It will be in the next submission too. Also, I just wanted to say that I am sorry to upset Happy Lee, that isn't the intention. I also don't agree with his portrayal of me with many publications beating up on him, a guy with so few. He has more publications than most TASers. And it is him that is the SMB expert here. I am a SMB newbie! Also, I like frame wars :) And the audience (including those who complain) seem to enjoy it too. It has an element of excitement, or at least an element of entertainment in the TAS community.

It's not even really a frame wars. I see it more as two teams showing eachother how to improve on their movies :P Anyway, I hope this frame optimization goes so far that someone finds something useful for a normal SMB TAS, beating that record.

War has changed. side trolled plumbers carry frame tagged movies, use frame tagged improvements. frame advance inside their emulators enhance and regulate their abilities. state save control. Information control. memory adress control. Battlefield control. Everything is monitored, and kept under control. War has changed...

I do admit I like the frame wars, because it forces people to get creative with the improvements. It's just that the walkathon SMB run, which was originally intended as Bisqwit's joke, has been popping up so much, and the run stops being as fun when you watch it so frequently with small improvements. Does it make sense to simply update this submission with a better run when you guys make changes? After all, I do think that at this point, as Samsara has emphasized, the run is the product of all of your work.

Wow, didn't look at the site for a few days and this frame war started up. Well, good fun, I'm curious to see how long it will last.
