As for the comments about "keeping the flow". I can honestly so far I've not done a whole lot of back-tracking to get to the special stages (Give or take a few seconds to get the third special stage in EHZ1) And as I said, I personally feel it would become quite cumbersome having to mess around getting Emeralds in later zones where such solid routes without emeralds have already been posted.
Not counting time spent in special stages (6921-1424 + 13782-7967 + 21980-15031 = 18261 frames (5 minutes 4.35 seconds), you have lost 2130 frames (35.5 seconds) in EH1, compared to entering no special stages. (1424-579+7697-6921+15031-13782+22286-21980 = 3176; 1625-579 = 1046; 3176-1046 = 2130)
By comparison, if you entered only one special stage, at the third lamp post, you could probably get away with only 3 to 5 seconds loss.
If we assume about the same time loss for each emerald, we get 2130 * (7/3) = 4970 frames (1 minute 22.8 seconds) of in-level time loss.
Whereas 3 to 5seconds per emerald * 7emeralds = 21 to 35 seconds of total in-level time loss.
Yes, this will require more work from you, but it'll provide a savings of 47 to 61 seconds, which is way too much to shrug off. In fact, collecting a single chaos emerald would have to lose you almost 12 seconds in each level it's done in for this not to pay off better.

I care. Nice to see you took my suggestion on board, SS 7 looked especially great since that is usually a mad scramble for rings :-)
Also, I agree with upthorn that it would be more efficient to grab the special stages as they come. Super Sonic probably wont save any time across Chemical Plant, so maybe a 5 or even 4 SS route across EHZ would be best, picking up 1 or 2 in CPZ, and perhaps the final one in ARZ.
I think the only way to test how efficient Super Sonic would be is to start working from the start of CPZ with Super Sonic available and see how much time (if any) can be saved, and eliminate that from the 7 SS route. CPZ2 is probably the first point where SS can save significant time though.

I believe stanski has provided his 100% route in the sonic 2 thread on SDA, if you can find that it would probably help. don't give up just because a couple people tell you what you're doing wrong.

I'm pretty sure the time it takes to get Super Sonic can't be made up by using him...might as well either get all the emeralds as soon as they're available (Emerald Hill), or just use the 4126 code and start with him immediately, like Paused said. :p

2- getting all emeralds in... Emerald Hill. (Or 6 in EH and 1 on Chemical Plant).
3- Using the code to get all emeralds.
Both 1 and 2 have the bonus stages to deal with. A lot of people hate them, but I personally love, specially using the "get all rings" idea

This, it fits in with the 100% and has a higher chance of getting published. And it looks alot more challenging than running around being invincible all the time while the Super Sonic music loops for half an hour(talking about option 3. Oh, and the fact that I want to see the special stages).

Ironically you may only see Super Sonic half of the time, back when I was doing a test-run through Chemical Plant Act 1, it wasn't worth going Super Sonic in it.

Oh the all emeralds code, I was thinking about the gameshark code that made you SS at the start of every level. I have no idea why I thought that. Maybe I was tired when I wrote it...
Yeah for the All Emeralds run, You could also use Knuckles in Sonic 2 (Sonic & Knuckles w/ Sonic 2)
That version the ring counter doesn't reset after completing the special stages. So you can save time in... say, the Chemical Plant zone.
