http://minibosses.com/ Worth checking out if you like VG music. They cover old NES games like Mega Man and Castlevania. Download the MM2 track off their website to see what I mean :)

I'll hijack the thread for a bit to remind people of VG Music remixers, two largest(?) sites are VGMix and OverClocked ReMix. And before anyone has the chance to ask, no, I don't do any remixes, I'm just an avid fan and listener. ;)

Yeah, I've heard 'em before, and I got a live video of them playing contra theme songs. Love this kind of music ;D

Their best one is the Megaman 2 10 minute song. I suggest everybody listens to it and the rest of their work!

http://dwellingoduels.rock-out.net/ Monthly (more or less) competition to see who can make the best video game cover with live instruments. This usually means lots of rock guitar, but some other gems too. I might post a follow-up to this once I find a link with downloads for the runner-up mp3s.

Hey, those sites where surprisingly good. I expected amateur night but some parts were - far as I can judge guitar playing, at least - technically challenging. Too bad it's almost exclusively guitar-centered rock ensemble, but I suppose that's a matter of taste.

Minibosses - cool stuff, but I hate the drums, I think they're awful. They also need a rhythm guitarist very badly. I'm checking out stuff from the rock-out site. Ryan8bit's metal rendition of the sad song from FFIV is incredible.

..for limited definitions of "incredible". For a more general use, see "Mike Portnoy". Meanwhile, just today I got my signed copy of bôa's Twilight in the mail. I am proud to be a fan of a band with 5 percussionists, 5 guitarists, and a string quartet. Amoung others.

The Advantage is my favorite. They have released an actual album that isn't free (unless you break the law), but it's well worth the money. They play with real instruments and it's really a great combination of blues, rock and jazz. The NESkimos are great, too. Their music is a bit heavier and nowhere near as good for example The Advantage's, but it's worth checking out.

Hell yeah! NESkimos rocks :> Got 16 megaman songs from them :> btw, from the rock-out page I think Radne - Megaman X3 is the best!

If you wish to have videogame ringtones on your mobile phone you might want to visit Retrotones.

I've actually done a few songs for this, and I believe most of them are up at VGMix.

No, not joking, but I was referring to how the drums sound as opposed to the drummer himself. I don't doubt his skills one bit, but the sound of the drums on the downloadable songs at their site sound similar to Sublime or 311 (kind of reggae-ish), which doesn't fit the music at all. I browsed around on VGMix and got a bunch of really cool stuff. Ashane's Red Cap Assault (FFMQ) is absolutely phenominal. I hope he decides to do the boss theme sometime. Ryan8bit and virt also have some amazing stuff.

I'd like to recommend Virt's Zelda mix at rock-out.

If you have a WAP-enabled phone, you can probably download the midi on the phone itself and add it to your ringtone library. ...at least, that's how I got the Bubble Man music from Mega Man 2 onto my Blackberry 7100t :)

Maybe someone could make a Rockman 2 hack so that the game doesn't have music. I'd do some runs on it and put those remixes on it. :D

All you'd have to do is disable certain sound channels. No 'hacking' necessary.

What, the music runs on a different sound channel? I'm gonna experiment with this later. EDIT: The music is only partially on a different channel. I can still hear the music a little bit if I disable most channels. My intention is to get the music out while keeping the sound effects in.

..so play on Complete Works or Anniversary Collection and mute the music while keeping the sound effects on.
