Is it normal that I can only record from power on?

The link in the first post has been updated with a new version that fixes an issue preventing resuming movies. Starting a recording from a savestate is currently unsupported.

Why is the RAM Search/Watch in the VIEW section? And... uh... maybe I'm stupid, but it seems to me that the PAUSE function should be assigned to the PAUSE/BREAK key instead of the SPACEBAR. Anyway. it can be assigned but won't work.

You're selected the wrong save type. Put it on auto or EEPROM 4Kbit (0.5KByte) for the game to work.
I tried this. I get; Unable to write data. Please turn off the power and reinsert the Game Card. Do I need a folder to exist or anything?
Edit: Nevermind. Seeing it to EEPROM 512Kbit worked.

I must be missing something. I downloaded the file in the first post, and when I try to open it, it crashes before anything appears. Any suggestion of what I may need to do to my computer to fix this?

Did you extract it and put it into it's own folder? Have you updated your graphics card drivers? Do you have available RAM? You gave us very little information to go with to try help.

Sadly that's all the information I have to give. Yes, it's in its own folder. I'll try updating the graphics card drivers.

You have a graphics card that doesn't support opengl2.0 and unfortunately crashes when attempt to open (one of my monitors behaves the same way). Open your .ini file and change to Renderer=2 and that should fix it.

make a new ini and put that above mentioned line in it. That should do it.

one user provided his ini within the thread and it includes tags as [Display] and [Video]. any of those tags needed, too?

kay, I had: desmume_0.9.2-rr.exe desmume.ini [3D] Renderer=2 in same folder...still crashes on startup.

The link in the first post has been updated with a new version. Changelog: Previous and next savestate slot hotkeys Stylus display during recording with X and Y coordinates Software rasterizer GPU is now the default, some games may look better with OpenGL so try both Ram search and ram watch update when a state is loaded

Oh awesome! I was about to complain about that last one. Actually, when I did it on Wednesday, it crashed consistently. I do memory searches while loading save states all the time. I think there might be a frame or two of input lag after loading a save state. Or the rendering might be 1 frame behind after loading a save state, which would cause me to think that. This is something that was only somewhat recently fixed in snes9x. I also noticed that although I can set hotkeys for tab, print screen, and pause/break, they won't work when I try to use them. Turbo seems to never work no matter what key I map it to. (Although I am getting less than 60 fps sometimes. Obviously I can't turbo when I'm already going as fast as I can.) Updating the RAM tools when I load a save state is really the only thing that's important. And it looks like you took care of it. Thank you for working on such an awesome emulator. I'm glad to have it.

Well, that explains it. Your processor is the problem - it doesn't support SSE2, so whenever you try to run a program that uses it, it crashes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSE2

Sweet, that worked for me, too. Thanks a lot! Sadly, I couldn't get it to run Mario Kart DS but the other games run fine, if not slowly.

There needs to be a way to fix the time on the DS clock at the beginning of a movie, as well as probably a few other things in the DS. That first one is particularly important, as Diamond and Pearl seed their RNG off the DS clock. This means they are non-deterministic under the current recording method.

I'm hoping someone will find a way to optimize the emulator for 100% emulation speed sooner or later. :3 I dunno, for some reason, the low speed seems to make my head hurt from time to time.

According to various reports and my tests, DeSmuME doesn't support paths containing MBCs (Multibyte Characters). When file operation fails due to this issue, no error message will be given. So it's very confusing and difficult to diagnose for the user. EDIT: See the post below for example. Work-around: Make sure there are no non-ASCII characters in your emulater/ROM/movie/... path by moving your files.

This is odd. My copy of DeSmuME-rr that I have at home plays movies and has perfectly working turbo and savestate hotkeys. Once I moved it to my work computer, none of that works. I tried redownloading it from the first post and deleting the .ini file, still no go. When I load a movie I have already seen at home here, the game resets, but movie does not play (frame counter reads "no movie"). I tried both normal and no-SSE2 versions. I tried recording a movie myself, but couldn't even find where does it save a movie to, if it even does. I kind of realize it's a funny way to make me actually work at work, but still, any advice? The OS is WinXP SP3, CPU Athlon 64 X2, 1 GB of RAM.

@moozooh: The movie problem sounds like caused by an MBC path. Make sure the emulator, the ROM and the movie's paths (including their filenames) don't contain any non-ASCII characters.
