I'm in need of a video editor that can apply visual stuff to videos like in teleshopping shows or quiz shows. Adding scrolling text would be cool too.

try sony vegas and adobe premiere.
Why not? It's easy to use, you can do a lot of stuff with it and most of all: it's free. I doubt there is any better non-linear video editing program that is free. If you know of any, please tell.
People often say that WMM sucks, but strangely, I've never yet heard any reason why. If you have any, I would be interested to hear it.
Personally, I find myself comfortable with Techsmith Camtasia Studio 3, though newer versions suck.
Actually my post was sarcastic, and it implied that I know that Camtasia costs money, but I cracked it.
i see, i thought you said that because you got owned :P i agree that camtasia studio is a better program than WMM (not very much though), but it isn't meant that we should crack the program, that's why WMM is actually better.
About WMM, it sucks because it's a program by Microsoft.
i think micro$oft owns because most people use their OS which means that windows has more programs and stuff than other OSes.

It looks like what you want is VirtualDub and/or avisynth. I don't remember how to use avisynth, or what exactly it's capable of, but it seems like the right direction.
yeah, avisynth can probably do that kind of stuff too, and it's free. it claims to provide "almost unlimited ways of editing and processing videos". however, it's very unintuitive to use.... so it's mostly pure Crap in my opinion, but it has some uses, and if you can bother to learn to use it, it can probably be very useful. i don't really like avisynth because you have to be smarter than einstein if you want to use it.
and like i said earlier in my edited post, movie maker can do scrolling text but it can't do those image overlay things. use sony vegas or adobe premiere.
I like Windows Movie Maker's interface, but it needs a few more features before I can take it seriously, and it's rather slow and crash-prone on my system. Though that could be just because I bought too little RAM.

I gave AviSynth a try now. But when I try to install it, an error message pops up saying that I'm lacking administrator rights. That might be caused by the laptop I'm using. I could try to install it on my own PC once I'm back home (I'm at school right now).
I also read the wiki page of AviSynth and it notes that the software is controlled entirely by scripting. And I'm not good at the field of programming, scripting and the like.
Help?
Isn't there another software out there that supports overlapping two media files (or any way so that it creates the outcome I mentioned above)?

I've had one problem with WMM that I couldn't figure out how to fix. Whenever I overlay text across a moving video or do a fade effect, the whole screen expands by about 2 pixels, then shrinks back down once the text disappears. I figured it was a problem with the compression options and codec I chose, but I couldn't find a combination that would fix it. And it looks really bad.
