I don't quite understand why this type of examples are brought up. Some borderline submissions get accepted and some get rejected. There is nothing strange in that. Borderline TAS causes neither big joy nor big harm, so the big fuss is pointless.
Why are people still talking about votes? No one gives a shit. The judges decide what stays and what does not, the votes are at most "a nice thing to look at"..not the deciding factor in what stays and what goes. Ive only been here a few days and I understand that already.
[00:31:12] <stickie> by the way, thanks for the sig sixofour

[00:31:25] <sixofour> what sig?
[00:31:55] <stickie> you will just have to find out *insert mystical music*
Then, as per your post, votes are useless and should be removed. Exactly the point of this thread.
Allowing people to speak their mind is worthless if they're being ignored anyway. The votes are a quick representation of what people think. You can say what you want, but if 70 or 80% of the users would find a movie enjoyable, and it doesn't get published, then this is not tasvideos anymore, but judgevideos, elitistvideos, or something to that extent.
Anyway I'm done too. I should know by now that, even in this case, expressing an opinion is a waste of time.
Yeah, and while we're at it, why don't we go ahead and get rid of the workbench forum altogether. It's not as if the JUDGES actually read and consider the stuff people write about the movies. They just ignore it and publish/reject willy-nilly however they see fit.
How is 83% borderline? How?
I agree with tossing the voting system, simply because the workbench forum itself is a better substitute. The discussion going on the threads is almost always more than enough info to decide if the run should be rejected or not.
I predict an unnecessarily high amount of short and unexciting posts in the workbench forum if the question was to be removed.
To prevent that I think following jimsfriend's suggestion would be most effective.

Well, it is not rare for a submission to get 100% positive votes. Out of all my submissions, the rejected Madou Monogatari is almost exactly between the published ones and the thoroughly silly ones. How is that not borderline?

I think voting should be removed, not because of what Warp said. But votes by themselves are useless, if anyone likes or dislikes a movie, they can say so in a post. And the judges can read them.
This suggestion came about the last time the voting system changed, and I disagreed with it then, because voting makes it a little easier to figure out the general spread of opinion in those famous 10 page flame wars, not to mention the threads with 2 or 3 responses. However, since no one seems to like the voting anyway, and it does seem to be pretty worthless, even when using it to quickly gauge general feelings toward a movie, I really wouldn't be heartbroken if it just up and died. I doubt that removing it will lead to less arguments, but hell, maybe they'd at least be different arguments.
I think we should all just get along and let people do their job. Stop bashing the judges, try thinking as if you were in their shoes. Sure maybe some stuff might have been done differently if you (saying this to whoever is bashing the judges) were a judge, but we are all human. We all make mistakes. Just my 2c.

Warp, I'm sad to see how seriously you're taking all of this. How's that dream of getting some friends and some girls and stuff going? Seriously. Want to talk about it?
During my years here I've only seen 2 movies rejected that I wanted published (1 of them being tails in sonic 1).
I have complete confidence in the judges decisions. That job is not easy and demands lots of wasted free time.
Also adelivideos sounds like a company.
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days
<adelikat> no doubt
<adelikat> klmz, they still do
I said (in irc) I wasnt' going to publish it, because I think it sucks.
Notice how I haven't rejected it nor did I say I planned to. I haven't even looked at the percentages yet.
If someone else accepts it and publishes it, so be it. I feel like this is turning into a witch hunt. You people need to chill out.
That's a weird way to work, so that's one of the sources of delays in publication people complain about, judges will refuse to judge if they don't like the game, that's dumb, the only real reason should be lack of time devoted to tasvideos altogether, regardless of runs you like or not.
Following on that judges shouldn't vote on movies... that means their judgements are not impartial, perhaps they shouldn't even watch the movie they are judging until making their decision (i assume based on voting in this case), once the decision is made they watch the movie in case there's a broken rule that outright bans it regardless of voting, but if not then the decision should be kept, these important rules wouldn't be ones of personal appreciation (ie. i didn't like the movie). That's my personal take on that of course, the job description you agreed to must be different.
It must be annoying to be a judge and have people complaining about you for one thing or the other or the other but I don't feel you guys have done everything possible to prevent them from doing that. Since rules have room interpretation (and also for ignoring it seems) the final call's on you, and as such it's expected that the complaints are on you ;o

Please read my last post in this thread (besides this one, of course), which I wrote after I calmed and realized my mistake.
Oh, and by the way, since it has caused a bit of confusion (although I really can't blame anyone for that): My suggestion to remove the voting system completely was not serious. It was sarcasm. I was just dumping my outrage which I was having at the time.
I'm all for the voting system, and I fully endorse the expanded voting suggested elsewhere (ie. two questions with 4 or 5 options each).

The judges make a great effort to decide what's best for the site, but sometimes I think they make bad choices, which is to be expected. Example my Yo! Noid movie on youtube (the same that was rejected here): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuT9gQnv1Ho
It is one of the most commented, rated, favorited and viewed videos I got there. That is what I'm basing my claim that rejecting it was a bad choice. I don't care for me if it's in tasvideos or not, I'm just wondering if the site is missing out on some submissions or not. Again, it all points towards what kind of videos tasvideos wants to host.
On the flip side, FODA, I really don't enjoy that game. Like, at all. Not saying you are wrong or anything, but it is still a matter of opinion as to whether the judges made a good or bad decision.

But... but... pizza eating contests! Best game ever! (and andrewg agrees, so you're DOUBLE wrong ;) This movie was one of my early inspirations for making Gruefood Delight -- I'll have to link to that youtube video...
