If you finish the final stage(Bowser's castle) with 100 points, can you play the final "secret" level without reseting the game? If I remember it correctly, you can't. Correct me if I am wrong.
There is no reset code for this game.
So I guess there is no way to make a movie of playing all the levels with 100 points since you can't play the final extra level, right?
Or you could make a run of just the regular levels that unlocks the secret levels, then make another run that uses the newly created save state to play all the secret levels in a row!
put yourself in my rocketpack if that poochie is one outrageous dude
Personally, I would be the most interested in seeing a a fast completion of this game where every level is beaten with a 100 pt. score. (I know I'm in no position to justify a request.) Some levels are perhaps a bit dull when you skip the items.
Is anyone of you contemplating such a run?

Hey, I was just playing this game (normally) and I found this awesome glitch. In level 2-1, just after the middle-ring, there is a giant tramboline ball that you take to the top, and there are some blocks in the air also, forming a line (so you can't jump outside the lines). Meh, it's hard to describe, so look at this picture (far right):

You can actually jump to the left of those blocks. It's very difficult, but in a timeattack that's obviously not an issue :) Just be running left when you touch the ball, then wait a little longer than normal, then jump. If you do it exactly right (and it WILL take LOTS of tries) you'll bounce up on the left side of the blocks. When you make it, you'll be transported to a completely blank area (just the background). Now "flap" to the right at least eight times and then just fall normally (pressing right at all times). When you fall to the bottom, if you did it correctly, you'll land in level 1-1 !!!
This could potentially save a little time since if you complete the level from there, it'll be as if you completed 2-1 and you'll advance to the next level. You can skip the autoscroll bit in 2-1 completely.

I did a test run of the first two levels. The first two levels aren't very interesting but I think the game has potential. It's a pure speed run, so no flowers or red coins are collected. The reason is that there are already "legit" runs for all levels that do that, and I think a timeattack needs to do something different, or else it'll just be something we've seen before, with slightly better time. Anyway here it is:

Edit: Just to clarify, I'm NOT going to finish this run, because it's already being worked on by someone else (hopefully), and also because I'm too lazy to do it. I just wanted to see how it would look and then afterwards decided to post it here.
By they way, Torn, how is that timeattack progressing? :)

If that is the case, I guess there won't be a timeattack for Yoshi's Island. Unless someone tries and beats my time for the first level or two, I won't be motivated to keep going. (hint, hint)
I'll do it. The only reason I haven't done this yet is because of the rom never worked with snes9x. Guess I will just get a better one.
Edit: I'm going to do fast as possible, taking damage to save time.

I doubt taking damage ever saves time in this game. You get stunned for about a second, and baby Maro will go flying away, and retrieving him also stops time for about half a second. Still, if there is a situation where it saves time, that's all well and good.
I've recorded World 1...which consists of a lot of jumping around.
I've archived each level into a ZIP and you can download it by clicking right here (EDIT: see next post).
Does anyone know how to combine movies for games which aren't based on luck?
EDIT: levels 2-1 through 2-3 added
Here's the complete Worlds 1 & 2 in one movie right here.
I use the backwards jump to jump up ledges that have a high wall to floor ratio, because a full speed foward jump will cause him to hit the wall and lose speed...backwards jumps are also used on many other occasions too.
It desynced in the second level for me, but of what I so it was good. What was the name of the rom that you used?
Edit: I found the correct rom (U) (V1.1).
Your movie looks extremely cool, some levels were full of stuff I didn't expect. There really isn't much to say since you've done it all so well, just keep 'em coming.
I have a few questions and comments. Why didn't you get more eggs in the autoscrolling level where it doesn't waste time? Also, instead of going above the top of the screen where you can't be seen in one of the parts of the autoscrolling level, you should have stayed on the screen and done some cool tricks. There were also some red coins and flowers in the autoscrolling level that you could have gotten without wasting time (or does it take longer to count them up at the end?). At the beginning of 1-6, it looked like you slowed down unnecessarily. You probably could have jumped again from the top of the hill instead of floating. There were a few places in the movie, for example in 2-2 when you bounce off the shyguy up and to the left, where you hit the corner instead of slowing down a little and then going toward the land above you so you just miss the corner and don't need to accelerate once you're higher than the wall. Another example is a little later in the same level when you're falling down, and once you fall down below the wall on the right, you first need to accelerate to the right. You could have stayed farther left so you can start accelerating a little before you're below the wall.
Perhaps using the bare minimum eggs sans slodown is a little more exciting, but you're right. I could have pulled of a few tricks with the excess of eggs I get in that level.
I guess so...maybe I should have gone out of my way to avoid any flowers, red coins, and stars at all.
I guess I was being a little presumptuous with the float boosts you get from jumping on enemies. I'm certain it would have saved time if I had instead used the other 2 shyguys to quickly jump up to the pipe.
This was one of the levels I managed to hex in completely without a desync, and it wasn't very polished. Wasn't until later levels where I try to use only enough floating as necessary, since you know how slow it is.
I noticed this, and I hate running into walls as much as anyone, but I assumed it wouldn't cost too many extra frames...and I was rushing. Which is not good.
