This is my New Year's gift, I hope you enjoy it! It's 149 frames faster than my last movie, 126 frames faster than my last submission, about Super Mario Bros walk through, but it's even faster in some levels that it doesn't count, and I did lots of tricks in it, one of them is new, which is the trick at the end of 8-2, I used a bullet to end faster. I didn't even think about it before! I think this one is much more perfect than my last one,it's better to watch!
And one more thing:Happy New Year!

NesVideoAgent: Hi! I am a robot. I took a few screenshots of this movie and placed them here. Here goes! Feel free to clean up the list.

adelikat: Accepting as an improvement to the published movie.

To anyone who wishes to improve this: Improvement: get a mushroom and do the bullet bill glitch in level 8-3. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/281041456/smb%20walk%20testing.fm2 EDIT: obviously, you want to avoid fireworks instead. ;)

A lot of 2D-runs get lower average rating, especially entertainment rating, because people who dislike 2D rates them. And yeah I can give examples. So this is a more and more occurring event. Just a heads up.
If people don't like 2D, then they're on the wrong site.

I remember his first movies being really amazing, but Bisqwit said everywhere "They're faster than mine, but not so entertaining." Then, all of Bisqwit's "followers" started to criticize HappyLee's movie and to make fun of him on IRC (exactly the same as what happened when Bisqwit had an "exchanging of views" with pSX Author).
It's sad that people act like that.

I guess our moderators and encoders have been busy lately, as the queue's built up to be a bit longer than what I tend to think of as "usual". And yes, I know things've been in the queue for over a year before, but half a year ago the queue had all of three things in it, too!

You're right Derakon, I believe everyone is pretty busy right now. I personally am finishing up with doctoral school and a couple of big projects that are due in roughly a week. I'll try to clean up the queue (or at least do some judging) by the beginning of February, but I know that Shinydoofy just started college, so the accepted runs may take a while to actually get published.

I knew that runs have taken months to do, but this is a first I've seen for Super Mario Bros. =P

How come this has been published, and NesVideoAgent didn't post in this thread? o.O Weird, the status is "published", the thread has been moved here, but there is no post by NesVideoAgent and no actual movie page on the main website.

First of all, I don't understand why has it been accepted without the improvement mentioned here. This is the fifth generation of a sidestroller, it hasn't been a terribly complex run in the first place, so every improvement should matter, right? Has the discussion been read?

The site focuses on entertainment. If someone finds a 2-frame saving (even if it's SMB or MM1), this shouldn't stop a movie from being published. Make the 2-frame faster movie and then submit it. If people find it at least as entertaining as this one, then yes, this one should probably not get accepted.
You're just fucking stupid, everyone hates you, sorry to tell you the truth. no one likes you, you're someone pretentious and TASes only to be on speed game, but don't have any hope, you won't get there.

Focusing on entertainment has nothing to do with it. So far no-one seems to have said anything about the find. I can understand HappyLee: he's Chinese, and he doesn't visit the site often, but I don't understand why a question on delaying the publishing hasn't even been considered.

The reason it wasn't considered it simple. I didn't see andrewg's post when I was reading the thread (it was inconveniently posted in the middle of some forum drama I skipped over). Oops. Had I seen it, this movie wouldn't have been accepted, for reasons Moozooh already stated.
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects

This is one of the reasons why old members make this site pretty much suck. You should go and read a thread like this one and see how people hate this kind of shit.

I'll tell you why: because no one cares, only you and two more guys do. I can see how people love to scare newbies and tell them if their movies are not "perfect" they will not get accepted on this site. "You may need to re-do Level 2 if you want to get this run accepted." "Oh, right, I'll cancel this run and re-submit it later." Then only 1 in 100 people re-submit those runs. We've lost so many great movies just because of that stupid crap. Go to SDA if you want to "delay" publications just because someone else found an "improvement" (that no one in the whole fucking world will notice anyway).

"Old members" are the ones that have built this site, along with a lot of the content contained within it. If you have a complaint, feel free to voice it, but show some respect.

Generally 1-2 frames of known improvements will not prevent a run from being published. SMB1 is a powerful exception given that the game is very popular, short and simple.Any improvement will likely to be incorporated very quickly into a new run. Also FYI it's not good to have several obseletions in a matter of weeks, especially if there by the same author. As it discourages people from commenting and even watching the run altogether.

Improvements or not, my point stands: why didn't NesMovieAgent post in this thread? And, more important, where the hell did the movie page for this movie go?

Obviously, there's been a mistake. Either I screwed up publishing this one (and Super Mario RPG alike) or the database. My guess is that I am the guilty one here. Bisqwit is already informed about this and will probably react soon.

Ah. I wouldn't say it's entirely your fault, though. Also a thread in the SNES forum was broken, just like NVA's screenshots. Probably the database is having its period.

They are also the ones that didn't allow more people to build this site, scared away hundreds of newbies and rejected dozens of good movies which they personally didn't like. Also, I don't care about the all-too-important past of someone; I try to treat all people the same. (I always try to be respectful, but I'm also a human who sometimes can't keep being a hypocrite.)

That should be fixed with a rule like "you can't submit an insignificant obsoletion to one of your runs" not "fix your current submission every time someone finds a 2-frame speed-improvement, so people has to watch the exact same movie again and delay the publication for two more months".

I'm curious as to where this evidence lies, and what period would a member have to registered to be classed as an "old member"?

There is no specific period. Generally, the older the member, the worse the problem is. When you come attached to something, it's very difficult to let it go; you rather stay in a safe mediocre known place than a new strange place that you think could be even worse. So, the older the member, the more he rejects new ideas. As a result, we're still doing really stupid stuff. You have evidence of this everywhere. Just look at the "Workbench" forum: it was created so people could "work" together on a submission before publication. When that system was dropped, the "Workbench" forum was left in, even if it's completely useless now (yeah, I know we're supposed to discuss for months if a movie is good enough for the site; but the truth is only a handful of people decide this). Or just look at the technical rating, the most useless POS ever conceived; but try to remove it and old members will try to kill you. If you need evidence for the other things, I guess you've never visited the Gruefood forum. The only reason I started to TAS was because people scared the shit out of Dark Fulgore in his fist submission of Mickey Mouse 3. He cancelled his great run and closed the thread saying "I will cancel this run and make a improvement... Thanks for all opening my eyes..." Of course he never made it. Anyway, Matthew 15:14.

I'll admit I'm guilty of scaring at least one new guy off. I feel bad about it.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.
