Nice comparison video bkDJ. I don't think Kyman goes for optimisation. He just makes entertaining videos I guess... :P
It was still very close for someone who hasn't actually tased the game much as far as I know. There's a pretty huge difference in experience with the engine between the Kyman and mrrz, so I hope there are no hard feelings! :)

I went for speed in that video :/ In my defense MRZ made his first TAS on November 01, 2006. I made my first TAS on May 24, 2008.

That was so cool! Though I can't get the feeling that that has been used in the current TAS. I could be dead wrong though.

bkDJ, I hope you know that was not a bash in any way towards Kyman. Infact, that was defending him. :P

Actually it's funny, about 1900 pages ago I suggested FODA try BLJing to the Metal-Head star to avoid the ! switch ground pound. Good job, I can definitely use that.

z0MG, since you've, for some pathetic reason, blocked me on YouTube, I'll ask you here. How much does your Wild Blue star beat mine (the one in my 14:27 run) by (in frames)?

1) I remember timing yours to be 10"17. 23 frames. 2) Please don't call me z0MG. 3) You blocked my old account for no reason, as well.

Actually, I had good reason for that. You harassed me over MSN several times about minuscule improvements. I think that's a good enough reason to block you on YouTube, so that you couldn't also do it there. On the contrary, I've done nothing to you. And besides, two wrongs don't make a right.

Though it's not exactly hard to find out yourself, I edited the post to include the frame difference. Yeah, you've done nothing to me. Except being rude to me on every possible occasion, running around telling everyone about a run I wanted to keep secret, tell a certain person to beat my YouTube runs just to humiliate me, and so on. And before you deny ever being rude to me, here's some proof: http://img1.imgwiz.com/images/337_proof.jpg And before you say the image was edited: http://www.youtube.com/comment_servlet?all_comments&v=d7F5OLvdKCg&fromurl=/watch%3Fv%3Dd7F5OLvdKCg%26feature%3Dchannel_page Enough drama for now.

Well, frankly, after the way I was treated, I see no reason to be civil towards you. What I said at that video was payback for the crap you've said to me. (and before you bring it up, I know I said two wrongs don't make a right, but I wasn't intending it to be right afterwards)

Thanks for making the videos HD :) For whose who want to save an HD youtube video to their harddrive (on an old CPU, playback in anything that supports .mp4 will be much nicer than in-browser). 1) Go to Keepvid.com 2) Put in the address for whatever video you want 3) Copy the link it gives for the mp4 but modify the "18" at the end to "22" 4) Paste result into browser 5) Profit!

But why are some of them with the 120 star triple jump and some without it?

It looks to me like they both don't have the shiny triple jump andrewg... :P The shiny jump is usually not useful. It's mostly useful if you need extra distance on a triple jump going up a slope. In these two stars they are useless in times sake (as far as I know.)

Just looking at his other videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXYaY-elmSA&feature=channel_page thought it was the one he linked whoops. But still, seems like it should be non-120 star, but whatever.

1900 pages ago, this was still just a game... what changed?

Well, the triple jump has some interesting advantages, and a huge disadvantage. Pros of Shiny triple jump: You can control it's height (Johannes uses this to his advantage in the first star) You get a small bounce, which is useful for scaling slopes or for doing a small dive (Johannes also utilizes this in the first star) Cons: You can't wallkick with the shiny triple jump. Fail. :( Sometimes you don't want the bounce.

Also you won't take fall damage for any height traversed pre-bounce, iirc.

SM64's star times competition allows using the special triple jump at will.

Johannes: I'm curious, how's the internal timer included there?

I agree. In my opinion, 70 stars is an arbitrary and useless category. For that category to make any sense, you would have to restrain from using a single BLJ, which means 2-5 extra minutes would be spent walking around in the castle and opening doors.
