Damn... then again, the first one was done without rerecords, but still, significant improvement.

What I'm very surprised about is the amount of turns he does in mid-air. It looks like it's done without rerecords, either.

Well, he once told me that with this game, you can't do it frame by frame, you have to go by segments. This is because something that might be good in short, it might be bad in long time... But on the turns, that's most likely because of the check points that are in the track. Remember that this was mentioned early, you can't cut wherever you want...

It's so much more fun to watch these videos than it is to watch the sky-drifting F-Zero GX videos. This latest video is phenomenal. Awesome work!! :D

JKT is back with some action. It's been a while since he did a TAS of this game, but he hasn't forgotten about it. This time he plays Silence, you can download the file from FileSend youtube link *whoops, I had posted it on the Death Race topic :P

I made a TAS one of my favourite courses - Red Canyon. I found no knew strategies but it's still fairly quick. Link

Are anyone planning on doing a full run of this game? "All Time Trial Courses" or "All Cups" would be awesome. There's a password that's used by inputting a quick series of button presses at the menu screen, that unlocks all vehicles and courses, as well as the Master difficulty, which makes the categories I mentioned more feasible.

I once did an analysis of TT vs. GP for this game, and decided that TT would be better for a TAS. GP doesn't add as much as say Mario Kart 64, so the differences are less (and even sometimes hindering.) Doing a huge air dive to gain massive speed and zoom around the track doesn't work as well when there are 29 other cars in the way. The password should be well known... I have like 10 or so .m64's that enter it optimally. Also, anyone wanting to do a run can most certainly abuse this speed-preserving trick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgHP9i2dW0o

I ran Sector Beta but with little luck in the way of new strategy so it was only 1.5 seconds ahead of the WR.

I really think this game has star potential. At any rate, I really would look forward to watching if someone went through with it.

Yeah, I don't now how it should be done, but it would be really awesome.

was the bumping on the walls really necessary on the first lap?

If you look at the videos earlier in the thread, it's done there too. From what I can tell, there's a glitch that sets your speed higher if you do that.

Haven't seen the video, but from your question & Derakon's answer is most likely the railslide technique. So I guess the answer is yes, it was necessary & no it wasn't a glitch, since even the staff ghost uses the slide technique... There's a guide on MFO that explains this an other simple tricks. Just take into account that the file is heavy, so it will take some time to download... Edit: Ok, I saw the video. Seems that the strat is the same as the WR... There are a few things I probably would had tried (maybe you did), like falling off the loop when you're at the top & then go back (only for the 1st lap), but think I remember JKT mentioning it wasn't useful. The next thing, would be to fall off & go back to the track after passing the loop, if done correctly, it should give you a little more speed (only for the 1st lap). The last thing regards on the 2nd time you fly, I remember that you can keep more speed falling earlier, or am I wrong? BTW, The bump at the beginning is actually the bump rail slide, though is barely used. There aren't many tracks where you can bump while railsliding & gain more speed than just railsliding, but yea is useful... Oh, and I liked how you ended the track :)

Xenos, did you try experimenting with my speed preserving trick? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgHP9i2dW0o

I tried the first but if you note the geometry of the loop, it should be clear why that trick would be very difficult if not impossible. Falling off the track is not as useful as it seems as you lose speed when coming back on but I suppose could be used to gain small amounts of time if done just right. It was mentioned that you could release A for the second DTD to drop lower giving you a better landing angle but I decided to not complicate an already difficult maneuver.

Yes and I'm certain no such trick exists. Perhaps you would care to demonstrate the trick while not preserving a speed lower than your maximum.

What I think would make an interesting TAS for this game would be a best lap on Mute City 1. JKT used a special strat there where he entered the lap with a TDD or TDDTD (True diagonal double tap dive). Nobody I've spoken to (Westu and some others) really understands how this can possibly be used in a beneficial way for a lap time. I think it would be really interesting to see how much can be gotten from such a dive. There is a description of the lap strategy in this guide: http://www.mrfixitonline.com/viewtopic.php?t=200

Certainly doing special moves would be cool to watch, but I think that only JKT would be able to pull it right (I wonder if he'll do it, though).

Hi, I tried to tas pt1. I think I loaded a bad ROM cause there are invisible objects in the game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyJhHA6Pqag accidently deleted some savestates during the tas: -after finish line of 1st lap -and finally at 3rd curve 2nd lap which made me finish after 2hours of work:D I'd love to see a pro-tas of pt1. Maybe it's possible to reach 3000 @first dtd?

Just a few points from me: -You should have used the Blook Hawk instead of Mr. Yellow. -Many turns were taken too wide and while you can go faster doing this, you lose out on distance. -The DTD could have been faster. There's no point in gaining lots of speed if it takes you too long to do it. I briefly contructed a lap 1 on Port Town with this in mind so I suggest you beat me (with a better DTD in particular; watch the WR videos) before going any further.

Could anyone show me where to get a good NTSC-ROM and a savestate for all cars/tracks? I watched the 1'04'' WR yesterday and start to shame:D

You don't need a savestate. At the mode select, press L, Z, R, C-Up, C-Down, C-Left, C-Right, Start, to unlock all tracks/ships/difficulties. I think Comicalflop has an m64 that does this optimally, so you should ask him.

The WR is 1'01 actually. It was a good effort but the DTD is still far from optimised. The cruising speed after landing the DTD is the most important and not the maxspeed you can land it at. This video is closest to the current WR: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lq-_IUquA7w&feature=channel_page On a side note, I have finally figured out how to do the Mute City fast lap strategy myself and have now beaten the WR: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpXyFnv9FeU So, in case anyone was interested in this that video should be of help.
