I am no longer sure if he's a scam or a guy telling the truth. However the controller wasn't within the frame at all times like I requested. Could you do that for me krohn? I kinda wanna see what buttons you're pressing and what the back of the controller looks like. Appreciate it! If you could also press Reset or something similar at a random time, would be stellar. I think at this point people of both opinions would make better progress to get off his back a little and wait for the next little bit. By stating he did it in Mupen he removed what would otherwise have been a legit thing to claim.. that one of the contacts on his cartridge is bad or soething. So we're really just waiting for the next video, and in the meantime hold your tongue, even if you know you're right, it will help.

And I'm not sleeping this christmas...Santa won't escape, not again. Isn't it amazing how he tries to switch off the n64, but turns off the camera instead? And isn't it surprising that his camera could film the TV, but not the PC monitor? And oh he's so kickass... he could do that in real time in a real world console after just a few tries, and the guys here spent a long time in mupen with savestates and frame advance... but failed. ... Even if it was a bit elaborate and he was really playing that crap and we could see his hands, you know someone could still activate the underwater code via another controller... This is going way too far... there's nothing worth fighting for.

how did this start anyway? did the guy post his video on youtube and... told some TAS'er "OMG look I did some crazy thing it will save you loads of time in your TAS" OR some TAS'er found and watched the video, saw something that could help improve the TAS, but then went on thinking it was fake but still kept asking how it was done? if it's something along the lines of the 2nd, then you guys are out of line and shouldn't be blaming the youtube guy for this.

From what I gathered, his compilation video of glitches and oddities was stumbled upon by a TASer, who, familiar with the mechanics of the game, decided these tricks were impossible to replicate without the use of a cheat device and called him out on it. If it can't be replicated in Mupen, then it can't be replicated. It's either a hoax or a fault in emulation. The former is certainly the more likely of the two possibilities - especially considering the discrepancy in physics model handling would be far more readily apparent to be inaccurate to such a degree - but in either case, there's no point in banging your head into a wall trying to get somewhere when neither party will budge.

Basically, either krohn7master will make a .m64 showing the glitch and someone will start making a new 0 star run, or he wont, and nothing will happen. And on the topic of breaking into the moat door, is it possible to BLJ inside the castle wall and enter the door from the other side? I only think it would really be possible if there is a side BLJ or something that has been so far missed that is on the ground level. Which to everyone's knowledge there isnt . . And now i will shutup and avoid posting on this thread and hopefully other people like me who have nothing much to contribute to the discussion will follow suit :P

It's like people don't look at links or read the thread and just want to post repeating other people and asking things that have been answered. It sure is a good thing people in this community are cheerful and helpful and openminded!

The other side of the door is also underwater (there was a video linked a page or two back in the thread that shows what happens when you clip through the castle wall in that area). Edit: beat by bkDJ.

OK, so I found Mario's vertical speed (I think) in the RAM. At the very least, I've found a short integer that, when set to FFFF, makes Mario shoot down to the ground faster than the eye can see. However, Mario doesn't seem to take any damage when doing this, and he doesn't seem to go significantly below the surface if I do this above the moat. Whoever it was that mentioned getting Mario to take damage underwater, what exactly did you do to do this?

This won't happen. He has already claimed that the moat glitch was a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and there was little chance he would ever get it again. Meanwhile, even if he could prove the BLJ into BitDW with an m64, it would be far slower than what we have currently, and pointless in a 0 star TAS.

I was going by hypotheticals. I was stating that I reached a point when testing on the slope by the moat where I took falling damage on the floor for roughly 1 frame (unmeasured), and was swimming literally the next instant. It was about Mario's height into the water (obviously) Can you try jumping off the castle into the falling animation where mario would normally take damage upon hitting the ground, and then activate the speed RAM to hit the floor right in front of the moat door?

It would, however, be useful in un-assisted 1 star runs.

ok, finally found all the relevant memory addresses, and this looks like a no go. Mario is declared swimming the instant he goes below the water. I wonder if it's a simple "if Z< water line then swim" sort of test. Incidentally, these are the memory addresses I used Mario's Health 00C27CAD Vertical Speed 00C27C4E Current Height 00C27C40 Jump Height 00C27CBC if jump height is a certain amount larger than current height when you land, you take fall damage. it is set every time you jump. I gave Mario's Health as a reference, as the different versions of Mupen have different address assignments. But they're all in the same place relative to each other.

Mario needs to be in the water for a frame before he enters his swimming animation. The water detection will be something like Water Coordinates X,Y,Z If Mario's Coordinates is X,Y AND Mario is < Z then goto Mario's Swim Sub Routine

So you're saying that if Mario enters the water for just one frame, and on this single frame he happens to be standing on the ground precisely in front of the door, he should open it?

Even if it was possible, you would end up on the wrong side of the door after going through it.

Collision in water is likely like so: Water volumes likely have a minX and a maxX and same for Y. If Mario's X GREATERTHAN water's minX and mario's X LESSTHAN water's maxX and mario's Y GREATERTHAN water's minY and mario's Y LESSTHAN water's maxY and mario's Z LESSTHAN water's surface Z (maxZ?), then underwater. yeah according to this source thats the case
Here's how the original Jesus Mode code was hacked (based on a post by Parasyte). In Mario 64, the engine determines whether Mario should walk or swim based on Mario's position relative to the water level. If Mario is below the water level, he is put into swim mode.
http://doc.kodewerx.net/hacking_n64.html based on that one would also say that it's impossible to glitch into some walk-underwater mode... because every frame a check is done whether mario should be swimming

Maybe Mario was in a glitched state and that's why he didn't enter his swimming animation. This idea hasn't been brought up yet, I think.

Mario was in a GameShark state, you mean...

Actually, MUGG has a good point there. In many games, character behaviour becomes quite unusual when certain animations are playing. That's one possibility for the video, although I personally think something went screwy on Krohn's cartridge. But, really, people, stop flaming him. It's been quite polite on Krohn's part to try to prove his videos, and responding by accusing him of lying is not helpful.

A large portion of people posting about krohnmaster have not read up about it before they post. Most yell at him to make a M64 file when he 'can't' because it was a once off thing that just happened to occur while he was video taping himself play. ok, now shush up about it all, chances of it being faked are indeed still high, but now we don't need to discuss it anymore since a m64 file is not likely due to the nature of a 'once off' glitch.

Krohn, I would appreciate if you posted an m64 of the blue slope BLJ in the lobby.
