I noticed theres many unvoted speedrun, and canceled/rejected movie are flooding up Workbench. Would it be good idea to split, and move all rejected/canceled runs to new section? Time for me to watch unvoted runs...

Hm..that seems like a good idea...Bisqwit and Phil.. >_> And moving topics is a messy thing to do. It's fine like it is. And the Workbench would be very small if only movies for which it was still undecided if they were going to get published were there.

But those undecided videos, thus having more attention, would get out of limbo much quicker. We have some videos that date back to August. They shouldn't have been undecided that long.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

oh i didnt think of that.. hm.. maybe bisqwit could come up code that makes long undecided movie get bump up? instead of splitting workbench.

That could work, but that's not what that forum is there for. It's there for discussion. If you want to look at what movies haven't been decided on yet, you should look in here

What's the point of having a poll for each game anyway? It seems to have absolutely no bearing on whether a submission is published. Does Bisqwit unilaterally decide what gets published on his site and what doesn't, or is there a small committee?

The point is that I'm not an expert at many games, nor do I have time to watch all the submissions. I collect opinions. I'd like a non-anonymous poll though. For the decision to be done, the poll usually needs to gain a result with enough confidence. (And don't extort me to provide an exact mathematical formula for that - there is none.)

how about instead of using the polling features of the forums just have people vote by posting? that way it's non anonymous, a bit of a pain to count them up, but people won't vote without taking responsibility for it.

No, the voting system is good the way it is. I also agree that it should be non-anonymous, but that's just a coding matter that shouldn't be too hard to fix. There is no reason to switch to posting only, that would only lead to a lot of unneccesary work.

I'd also like to see non-anonymous voting.

there are pros and cons to voting that is anonymous. On the plus side, people may vote more honestly. For example, it would be hard to say "no" to a run if 9 people had already voted "yes" before you. Some people might feel pressured to conform to everyone else's opinion knowing that their name will be revealed. The negative side to anonymous voting is that some users may purposely vote "no" to a run just to sabotage the author's chances at getting the run published. But these votes are in the minority, and keeping in mind that voting isn't the main factor in getting a run published, I don't think it's a big problem. I'd stick with keeping it anonymous for the reasons just mentioned.

I think you are overestimating the conform effect on an online community. I'd say some people might just vote no to prove some insignificant point as to vote yes because everyone else did.

Couldn't the polls be made members only? (Or are they already?)

Registration is free. And still, the only thing collected is the number of votes and the list of users who have voted (but not who voted which). (The user list is not displayed though.)

It seems the system right now is set up for both. The phrase "Please explain your vote" pretty much covers everything. How many times have we seen 10 people vote yes and then 1 person step in and say, "Hold up now...you could have done this area 2 minutes faster by doing this and this video is 2 minutes slower than the one already published for this game." Furthermore, there always seems to be one unexplained no vote for just about every movie. If we went by the votes alone, it would be a bit too easy to stat pad and such. If a vote deciding system was put into effect, these oversights would arbitrarily be published and there would be a bunch of unnecessary legwork for the mods. Someone would make a movie for a game nobody had ever seen before, everyone would vote yes because it "looks fast," then someone would find a trick and beat it in a day, everyone would vote yes, etc. I think it's fine.
