When working on the quadrun, I found a nice little time saver for Mega Man 4. You can kill the whale in the same jump you use to get over the spikes. This movie saves 23 frames per whale room (there are two rooms in the diveman stage).

Great find! I take full responsibility for not thinking of that before. It never occurred to me to make that long jump because I always think in terms of do everything fast and jump low as possible, especially in the water areas because you flow too much and lose time. I bet you can even save lots of more frames by doing a more daring jump. Edit: 70 frames can be saved in the Pharaoh Man fight by jumping after when the fight is done, you can most probably save a few more frames in that stage by minimizing lag. I have a new idea for the Balloon route in Bright Man and There are lots of lots of thing I want to try out in Ring Man. Like trying to find a way to skip the second hippo and check if zipping through that long platform after the hippo scene is worth it or not. Preferably, a new version will most certainly be made if someone can find another trick.

mmh.. oh nice trick :) that's a lot of if 70 frames can be saved by jumping after eliminating Pharaoh Man and AngerFist don't worry i can try to find something later and that second hippo in the Ring Man stage have made many headaches to me and i was also thinking about that zipping :)

Yeah, this could probably be more optimized (but I doubt it can be done "lots" of frames faster).

Yeah, I also tried skipping it, when I was playing that part of the quadrun, but I didn't succeed.

Kopernical's run (before Fisty and I improved it) used this strategy. We obviously dropped it because the flash stopped is a more desirable weapon for the rest of the level and switching is too serious a loss. I'd put up a video clip, but I seem to have lost the AVI.

IF it is submitted. It's been a while since any updates. Hope they don't quit after the second or third level. I was going to make an improvement on this run, too. But I decided not to and leave it to someone else. :D

Well, if there is/are any question/s, then we will probably answer them. Since there isn't any, there isn't much to say. About the progress, its going really slow for several reasons: 1 - Shinryuu cannot tas with us at the moment. 2 - Its not a top priority run for any of us = AngerFist, Baxter and Shinryuu. 3 - Its not entirely highly motivating doing this run for the third time. But, to ensure everything is to our knowledge perfect and optimized to the bone, we are really taking our time. We have reduced a lot of lag in Bright Man, and thats were our progress currently is. Also, feel free to work on your own or with someone else. to improve the current published run.

That might be because you haven't left any questions hanging, or some new/exciting information that hasn't been discussed. You just posted random observations on the run that is in production and going to be submitted sometime soon. Three weeks without progress reports is not that much at all, you're just not used to it. That being said, if you just want to talk, we have an IRC channel (see top of the page). Edit: Beaten by AngerFist.

Absolutely my old friend ;) Yes I cannot TAS for a while (or I can but I don't want to push/force myself too hard caused by illness.) Also I don't have computer at the moment because it was so broken, I am getting new, more better one between tomorrow and friday. We three players continue our progress when we feel to and we'll search every piece of information and optimizations until we continue and we won't give up with this project. Lag reduction in Mega Man 4 is really interesting because it appears to be almost in every places. Pharaohman and Brightman stages are two horrible examples. mega_man_3 like moozooh said you can contact other players and us at #NESvideos channel, feel free to join.

That link won't work. I tried it and it just said "page can't be displayed". Is there something wrong with it?

Mr.Kuwata(It is a person who made rockman2k. ) says that you can save the time of boss's energy gauge. I introduce it though Someone might know. In a word, your entering the boss-gate late might be able to save time 0x6A85B lda $95 // 0x0095 read frame counter and #$07 // frame counter and 0x07($00000111) bne #$3D // If the numerical result is not 0, processing is avoided. lda #29 //0x29(energy gauge sound is set in A register) jsr $F6BE // play sound However, you can save at the time of 100 frames (about 1.5 seconds!) if the boss war starts with three low bits of the frame counter($95) always get off. P.S.: Because framecounter is reset when a lot of boss lands, it is impossible though I examined.

Indeed that's why I wasn't able to make things like I wanted to. At least it seems that it is better to aim for a fastest time when entering the doors in MM4.

The place that can be used . There is a boss who doesn't have the reset framecounter . CossackStage3:Cockroach Twins(adjusts it by start or jump) WilyStage3:Wily Machine 4 The Second(adjusts it by destruction timing of The First)

I have discovered a new Pharaoh Shot trick: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/537665601/mm4shots.fm2 (modified by Baxter). This trick is unfortunately not useful for the Bright Man fight, but I am pretty sure it will be useful in Ring Man. If anyone can think of any other use for it, please write, otherwise, Team Mega Man will now resume working on this brand new run!

I have a Pharaoh Shot trick: Charge up a Pharaoh Shot and do a slide then let go of the B button. Then at the exact moment you stop the slide press the B button again to charge up and you will have two Pharaoh Shots over you. (I'm not sure if this is the one you were talking about)
