Post subject: test commentary done; added audacity file

I finished my commentary last night. Unfortunately: -I used an external mic on my laptop, rather than a microphone/headset combo. There's static in the background. -I paused twice during the making of it. That may have made the commentary itself get out of synch with the AVI ever so slightly, but more importantly, it caused the .WAV I made skip from (apparently) the first pause to the 2nd. This means that at about 35 minutes into the commentary, it skips straight to the fight with Kotake/Koume. That's a ton of commentary stuff skipped. -I need to download some .mp3 codecs for Audacity to import the file into .mp3. As it stands, I'm only able to convert it into .WAV, which means the 1 hour 14 minute file is like 700+ MB. As a result, I'll likely redo the whole thing (most likely using the same jokes, and inserting new ones as well.) Until then, here's the .WAV I tried to maintain a balance of humor/technical explanations of tricks. I also wanted to keep my pitch/tone of voice as far away from monotone as much as possible to keep audience interest. (I'm a theater actor/voice impressionist; can you tell?) Of course, my voice isn't normally that high pitched; something with my mic setups make it sound higher than normal (Tompa or theenglishman or any other skype-goer can attest to this.)

Nice to see people commenting on my run :D. I listened to MiraiGen's and it was interesting to hear comments from somebody as they watched the run and to hear what they think. What could have made it more enjoyable from my perspective is somebody that has a bit more OoT experience, so that they can pay closer attention and point out more detailed things throughout the run. I felt like it was somewhat dead for most of the commentary but it wasn't too bad overall. I guess as the TASer it's more enjoyable to hear mostly comments on the actual tricks/glitches rather than mostly humor. I'm currently downloading Comicalflop's, can't wait to see how it goes. I've actually considered doing the commentary that Swordless Link mentioned on the earlier page. The idea he brought up was that I made a commentary on the run that talked about the circumstances of each certain part of the run, what was considered where, how things were manipulated, why were things done, etc.. It'd be a test of myself to see what details I can fit in throughout the commentary, and I'm guessing it'd be interesting to a number of experienced OoT players. Nevertheless, it was just an idea, so I may/not do it, probably depending on what people think.

dear comicalflop, I don't want to download something that's over 5x bigger than it should be. download razorlame, a lame frontend, and make a mono mp3 between 56 and 92 kbps (voice doesn't need better). You say 35mins are missing so your should have a file that's around 120MB or less. :) (or audacity is fine too but really you should have just made the mp3 first instead of) Thanks for understanding. Edit: oh, more than 35 minutes missing. whatever the case, I look forward to the smaller file.

35 minutes aren't missing. 1 hour 45 minutes are missing. At 35 minutes into the commentary, it skips to the end of adult spirit temple. I know the file size is too huge. I'm currently making a new .mp3 using lame. I may also end up makign an entire new commentary. In the end, the final product will be the same file seize as mirai's, don't worry.

Watched the sort-of "demo" on Comicalflop's commentary. It was funny, and you have a very well-expressed joke voice. You also spoke well about certain tricks that may confuse viewers, which was nice. There is nothing wrong with your option. A more distinguished commentary would specifically attract to more knowledgeable OoT players/TASers; just a much different category for commentary.

I could totally see that, but I felt like sitting and explaining things was getting on the technical side, whereas what I was hoping to do was make running jokes but otherwise let you watch the speedrun. Sort of like MST3K's tactic. I suppose I probably don't have the voice for commentary anyway, heh. Can't deliver jokes that well. Checking out CF's in a click.

No one's currently doing 100%. here's why: -The movie will be over 5 hours. It's a shitload of work. -Desynchs. Not as bad as MM, but for OoT, a run that long will require tons of desynch checks. -No record reset is very bad for route planning. Death warps need to replace save/resets for mupen at the moment, and later in the game Link has collected a ton of hearts, making dieing very hard. -A new TAS only route need to be made, to account for tricks/glitches that can be pulled off that can't be done on console. -A new 100% speedrun is in the making iirc; can't hurt to see how that one turns out first.

So in MM, SwordlessLink showed a bizarre post-Superslide sliding technique in the Deku Palace. -This trick can be done during any superslide. -Let go of ZR, hold the analog at a very small downwards tilt , you'll start spinning around in circles and eventually stop. When you stop and in which direction you spin is determined by the analog tilt. Y axis must be above 7 and below 27. X axis in the negative or positive determines whether you spin right or left. -When spinning in circles, if you hold Z again, you'll start moving straight in whatever direction you're facing like a superslide. You can let go of Z to start spinning again. -You'll lose some supersliding speed by spinning; but you can maintain the spinning speed indefinitely. The legs on the Link go round and round.... youtube Trick found by Swordless in MM, then I tested it to work in OoT as well. It'll help in preventing having to start a new superslide when going around corners.

I would guess that your media player doesn't support a certain video codec in many .avi files. Windows Media Player default has this problem. I run all of my videos through MPlayer (freeware).
