Sage advice from a friend of Jim: So put your tinfoil hat back in the closet, open your eyes to the truth, and realize that the government is in fact causing austismal cancer with it's 9/11 fluoride vaccinations of your water supply.
Ah, but in this case, wouldn't it be faster to simply do the skip, seeing it was slower by 100 frames vs. Frost Tower kill when you factor in the time to take the foot parts, by this strategy you'll benefit from not doing Walrus first? :)
That is, unless you can get Mikwuyma's FT Colonel glitch working.
Actually, I found it's relatively easy to apply the extra damage with frost tower, as it basically sits on all of his invincibility periods. As it turns out though, frost tower is far better (3 damage/hit vs 2)than a stock shot against Colonel, as for some reason he's more "solid" than other bosses, and takes only one damage from a half charged, and 2 from a stock. Blargh.
You must remember that stock shots are unlike the normal charged and plasma shots, which do more damage and pierce things like the ice bricks or the flaming boulders unlike the stock shots. A reasonably rough test puts soul body through ice at roughly 3.5-5 seconds faster than the alternative.
Stupid Colonel. If only he didn't force a battle halfway through the boss fights everything would be fine, as he screws up every alternative that could work. Doing web spider is required to get the lightning web/leg upgrade. Doing storm owl is required to get the arm upgrade to do the miniboss skip. Doing magma dragoon is required to do the miniboss skip. Doing split mushroom is required to get through the ice in frost walrus stage quickly. Doing frost walrus is required to beat colonel in a timely fashion. etc.
The game is against doing things that look cool -_-
Part of being a TASer is dealing with situations like this. It's a problem-solving skill.
Anyway, if you were talking in the X point of view, I would agree. Otherwise, I disagree.
Question. When it comes to the shielded rollers near the end of part 1, why did you attack the one and damage boost through the other? Why not damage boost through both, or attack both?
Just curious.
>Videos with sound
And X has a more annoying voice than that? Zero's shouts are plenty annoying.
But the gameplay looks nice, and I have a question- does getting those S ranks in Cyber Peacock 1 affect where you go next? Just curious, I'm not familiar with any of the PS X games.
Yes. Getting an S rank in an area takes you to a room that contains the special items (Heart Tank, armor upgrade, 1-UP) while A rank or less rooms contain nothing at all.
I'm not FF, but I shall try answering this in his place (given I did the first stage as black zero too, more or less completely optimized): He attacked the first one because it looks cool. He took damage from the second one because he'd otherwise have to wait for a short period of time so that he doesn't cause a damage animation while jumping between the enemies following the second one.
Frame wise, I believe it was something like 5-9 frames slower (it's definitely slower, I just cant recall exactly how much by) to destroy the shield-like things in question.
Only in the US version.
Though if you found Zero's voice annoying, X's isn't really more annoying.
Just to clarify, getting an A rank bypasses the bonus room (does not take you to an empty room). It's still slower to wait (though I haven't tested it for the third test room in X's path).
For anybody commenting on the intro, remember that I started without having much of a strategy and only learned things as it went on.
I'm almost positive it would be slower for the third test room in X's path. You have to wait an incredibly long time to miss an S-rank there.
Have you made any progress with the Sigma stages yet?
I started version 2.
Intro stage, Magma Dragoon, Split Mushroom:

Because RR v0.0.5 has far fewer desync problems, I was able to complete the three stages in a couple days.
Blargh. It would appear that I no longer possess the movie file for the intro stage (black, not that it makes any difference outside of visual and a 9 frame delay) zero run I did. It's a pity, as I think it was ever so slightly faster, and I now can't send it to you for frame comparison -_-. I don't think I actually linked it here, so I don't know if you've seen it FF:
Black Zero intro stage.
I think there are a few parts that are ever so slightly faster, which I shall outline:
1) Not killing the two enemies at the start, and instead jumping between them.
2) Delaying entering the door on the earliest frame so as to allow for the dialog to appear sooner (as you have your falling speed seemingly reset when going through a door, thus making you take longer to hit the ground).
3) Different method of destroying the first block (I think it was a frame or two faster, but if it wasn't, it certainly wasn't slower).
4) Not destroying the second block and instead jumping over it.
5) Avoiding the whole lot of the flying bugs without delaying movement.
That's about it really. Using black zero doesn't make a scrap of difference as it solely a visual modification, but I did it because it looks nicer.
Regardless, what you've done so far looks pretty damn nice, keep it up :)
edit - I forgot to ask: how did you get the audio/video to actually sync for such a long period of time? did you adjust the frame rate to one lower than 60fps?
I set the frame rate to 59.7 fps. This number is not absolute, but it worked in this case (though I think the audio was very slightly behind at the beginning).
Turns out I'm lucky, I had sent AngerFist the pxm before I had deleted it, so I got it back off of him. Downside is that it was made in pcsx 0.03, and doesn't convert successfully to the .05 format.
Either way, since it's still about, it should allow you to do some frame comparisons if you so choose FF: movie file along with pcsx 0.03 (don't worry about it being on rapidshare, it's a direct download link).
