Nuts & Milk is a platform game deriving influences from a number of famous Nintendo games, including Mario Bros. (green and red fireballs), Donkey Kong Jr. (spring platforms, jumping from ladder to ladder and fruits) and Wrecking Crew (barrels). And as Kirby shows us, nothing can go wrong when you start with pink blobs.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: FCEUX 2.0.3-interim
  • Finishes the game as fast as possible, without warps
  • Gets perfect completion (all fruits in all bonus stages)
  • Plays in hardest mode (mode B)
  • No warps

Comments

Gameplaywise, it is a simple game. The goal in every stage is to confiscate all the delicious fruits from the wrong-color blobs (they're of different color than you and your girlfriend after all) after which you can enter your girlfriend's house and have cake. In the bonus stages, you don't need to confiscate any fruits, but I'm sure the girlfriend would appreciate still it very much, despite apparently being homeless that time.

Stage by stage comments

Stages 1-50

To complete this stage, one must study the game objectives and fulfill them. In stages with ladders, the evil blobs are sometimes kind of hard to dodge due to the inability of the hero to jump on ladders, except to fall onto another ladder. Also, if the hero falls from too high (which isn't very high), he'll be inmobile for several seconds, and vulnerable to touching.

Other comments

After completing the 50th stage, the game informs us that this game completion was in fact "PERFECT", and then proceeds to restart from the 1st stage. A classic looping game.

mmbossman: Good viewer response, but since you already know how to improve this movie, I'll reject this submission. This game looks like it is probably hex-friendly, so I will accept the improved version when it's submitted.

I only watched level 1, but it made me wonder... so I tried TASing it myself. This seems to be 144 frames faster for level 1. Edit: I watched it completely now, and maybe because I already knew the game, it was entertaining to me. I don't know what other will think who aren't familiar with the game though... I don't think however that the quality is as good as it should be. Besides that improvement at level 1, I also spotted improvements for instance for level 6 and level 16. At level 6, you can pick up the fruit at the bottom right by jumping straight up, instead of jumping over the pit and back... when I completed the level, I also noticed that the spring jump at the end and the climbing wasn't optimized, so frames could be saved here also. At level 16, you only make a low jump at the spring at the bottom right... a high jump would have been a lot better and saves half a second easy. So I would vote yes to a TAS of this game (without skipping levels like the other movie obviously)... but since it can clearly be improved (I just tested some things I noticed... didn't do any real research or anything) I won't vote at this moment. Edit2: Ah, I forgot to mention. There were some levels were I really enjoyed your solution, such as level 17, 20, 32 and 44. Most of these involved going from one side of the screen to the other.

Hey! I'm not familiar with this game! And I must say, as awesome as this movie is, the entire game has a fucked-up premise. I mean, it's about two pink blobs with messed-up legs in a relationship built on gluttony, who build their houses in dangerous places near water, with the female just sitting at home and screaming "HelP" whenever her mate gets enough food, and the male one going out to gather food and destroying aircraft passing by for points, all while blue blobs who also have messed-up legs try to kill him for no reason.

So that's how Jared lost 300 pounds...

Aww. I expected improvements to be found (because even movies like Lolo have been found improveable from time to time), but not that soon. Obvious delays in this movie are usually because of enemies being in awkward positions for the pink's blob's immobilizing landing.

I enjoyed watching it. Going to vote yes, but if improvements are possible, it would be nice to see them.

Hmmm, my Yes vote for this. I also spotted some possible improvements as Baxter spotted. But I think it's entertaining enough to earn my Yes.
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do

Hehe, I enjoyed watching this. Very cute and well-made game. Level design like in 45 and your solutions/behavior like in 47 made this a fun movie to watch for a game I've never played.

Voting yes, I think it's entertaining. Would be nice if some of the improvements would be implemented though.

Feel free to obsolete this :) I'll probably redo it some day but I'm quite busy for a week now etc.

I vote yes... the game is interesting to me and the movie is clearly well played, even though it is apparently improvable. Now, it's certainly not spectacular, and there are quite a few rejected/canceled runs that I enjoyed more. I would venture that only a small segment of the general audience would even watch this. But to me, that doesn't matter. Why not publish runs that people enjoy?

I like this game. I like this TAS. Very close to perfect, I think. Obvious YES vote, but I can't vote yet. EDIT: Now I can vote, haha. Voted already.
