So I downloaded FBA and I must say, I'm very impressed, thumbs up to its creator :D I decided to try a TAS of Overtop, one of my favorite games ever. Since I can't submit this yet, let's get some feedback, maybe there is also room for improvement. overtop.fbm The rom for this game isn't that hard to find but I won't post links to rom sites here because I guess it's against the guidelines. Now, some description of the movie. There are 8 cars, each of them with strong and weak points. The Ferrari will go at 300+ km/h on the asphalt, but good luck driving it in the snow level. The jeep sucks on all the terrains, but can effectively take the water shortcut in the third level. And so on. I take an "all around" car that runs quite well on all the terrains. There are 8 colors; they have no effect on the gameplay, other than changing the soundtrack. Picking yellow will give me the best BGM; besides, the frame count gives me 3 cars I like to start with (OMG luck manipulation). This game has a weird collision system when two cars collide, and it's possible to get an incredible speed boost if done properly. So at the start I go to crash into the pink car and my speed gets at 260+ km/h. I could keep on using this system for the whole first level and beat it like 2-3 seconds faster, but I decided not to do so, and let the pink car to go ahead. Why? Well, to make the movie more entertaining, I overtake it in the second level. That's the last overtake that takes place in this movie: I'm already first by then. All the other levels are just pixel-perfect paths, which allow me to end with the in-game time of 3:17.92, which is quite good if you compare it with non-tas runs of that game (a 3:25÷3:30 with that car is a very good time in normal condition). For the lulz, I try to destroy a random amount of the breakable items on my way (signs, cones, etc). The movie ends after I enter "TOM" in the high score screen. By mistake, I forgot to skip the ending credits, but hopefully that's not a hard fix to do in hex or something. Well, I really wish to get some feedback here, and if Bisqwit approve FBA for official use, I will submit this movie. Thanks in advance for your time. :D

I'll try to watch it later and I used to play one of these games on an arcade in 1996 but I still couldn't find which one it was... The countdown was done with a hand showing 3, 2, 1 and the first level had forests on it with dirt road. And the car was some GT car... I couldn't find that exact game yet. I'll give you feedback later tonight.

I just noticed something! Overtop, just like a good 99% of other arcade games, stores the high scores. If this movie doesn't play correctly for you (it stays stuck on the title screen without doing anything), it means that the "memory card" for Overtop wasn't created yet. Reset it once and play it again to fix this problem. Sorry for the inconvenience. Anyway the lack of responses saddens me, if no one is interested I won't make other TASes :( This time I tried harder compared to my Snow Bros TAS, I actually used the frame advance mode!

@FODA: that sounds like "World Rally 2: Twin Racing" by Gaelco. You can legally download the ROM of the first World Rally for free from Gaelco's website. @nineko: I found the movie somewhat entertaining, but most TASes of racing games really bore me. I think TASes make them look very easy... The run looked very good, there were only a very few spots at the start where the run didn't look perfect, but otherwise it looks great. Also, the game had some nice graphics and it was short, so I would probably give this a weak Yes if you can submit this later. --- EDIT: oops, I'm very slow... I'm sorry to hear that, nineko. But, Arcade games+Racing games = very unpopular here, I think. Maybe when/if Bisqwit start accepting FBA movies, this could change.
You're just fucking stupid, everyone hates you, sorry to tell you the truth. no one likes you, you're someone pretentious and TASes only to be on speed game, but don't have any hope, you won't get there.

I hope so! I tired making a few a long time ago and all I got was a "meh" response.

Hey, I enjoyed them! Plus it seems people outside this site enjoyed your movies quite a bit, if Youtube and speedruns.net are anything to go by. The only reason why my reaction seemed somewhat "meh" was because arcade runs weren't being accepted here. That seems to be on the verge of changing. (oddly I can't think of anything off the top of my head that I want to do/would like to see at the moment :/)
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

LOL. Didn't mean to hijack your tread. I'm just trying to say, keep on going! I'll take a looky once I get FBA running again.

I can't get this movie to work. the game just stays in attract mode after I load the movie file. What's this stuff about the memory card ? I tried to create one but it doesn't seem to change anything...

It appears that arcade TASes are approved now. But this run, made with fba 001, doesn't sync with fba 003, so I would need to completely redo it in order to submit it. Redoing it from the beginning isn't necessarily a bad thing, in fact I even found a better luck manipulation for the starting grid that would allow me to glitch myself at 300+ km/h. However, since the rest of the movie would be more or less like the one shown in the youtube video in my post above (don't bother downloading the .fbm since as I said it doesn't sync in 003), I would like to know some opinions if I should bother redoing it or if it would be likely to be rejected. If I can get a couple of "beta yes votes" I will polish this and submit it.

I'd vote yes for it. Shame it didn't sync, I was glad mine did.
