I just got a new computer today, (My old one crashed while watching the drill dozer TAS in the workbench) and I don't know what Zip program I should download. I have windows vista.
I hope I can rescue my files from my old hard drive, seeing as how a lot of drawings and TAS projects were on it. My awesome Looney Tunes Improvement could be lost. :O
Because the torrent I downloaded SNES roms from won't let me open it. It's Donkey Kong Country 3 - Dixie Kong's Double Trouble.7z
Though now that I think about it, I was able to extract the snes9x files. Could it just be something with the file type of .7z?
Do you have to pay for WinRAR? Because we had it on my old computer and I'm pretty sure we never ended up paying anything the whole time. I mean even AFTER the free trial ended.

I don't think you have to pay ever, but you will have to deal with that annoying message that pops up every time you use it. Sometimes I try to extract the file and close the RAR folder before the message window appears. It's fun

Oh, and to MUGG, that's too bad. They were probably WIPs that were longer than mine since I generally only attempt short games. What did you lose? (out of curiosity)
WinRAR will bug you if you open it, but if you just use the contextual menus I don't think there's any nag screens. Or, you could be nice and pay for it :) I use 7zip now though. Good luck getting fixed up. Want to send me your old one?

Yeah, 7-zip file manager is the worst crap. You can't even rename or delete file inside archives... it's always "not supported by this folder or something".
But if you use only the context menu to extract/compress it'ss acceptable.

To be honest, I haven't tried Vista myself, so I guess I shouldn't say anything. though I wonder how one could be "forced" to use Vista, provided one owns the computer.
I recently bought a laptop and had them install Ubuntu on it. If it continues to be as awesome as it has been so far, I'll have to replace Windows XP on my desktop with Ubuntu (or maybe some other distro) as well. Having a nice package manager is just sooooooooooo nice. And it's of course free, and all that jazz.

I use Vista on my main PC. I have encountered less problems than I had with XP, and considerably less than I've had with any Linux distro. Vista 'sucks' because you're told to hate it.

I use Vista on my work PC, and it's... well, it's pretty bleh. Once you turn off all the Vista features it pretty much becomes XP with C:\Users instead of C:\Documents and Settings\, so it's all the same to me.
