Is playing the pianos worth it?
What is it worth? As I remember, they were a completely separeted sidequest of the whole game, with no worthiness other than being cool.

The piano quests only makes your bards better. This is because from every piano they play on they learn new songs and if you play on all of them you will learn some ultimate song. However I don't think this is necessary in a time attack.

i was just wondering, when you fight the 3 bats in the cave, you kill 1 with bart, 1 with lena/garuf but then you attack the last 1 with lena then kill it with bart. Wouldn't it be faster to have bart kill it in 1 hit so to save the time lena takes to attack?

We've already confirmed that, yes.

do you plan on getting the chicken knife? its a small detour but since you'll be running away most of the game it should be really helpful for later bosses

Is it a detour? But maybe you don't need to visit that town at all.. Good idea though. That knife could be very strong later on.

Hahaha... instead of working on this I just played GBA for like 10 hours. I noticed some of my save files were missing so I played Klonoa to perfection and then played 5 or 6 hours of CastleVania: Concerto of Midnight Sun. I'll do a quick update on this tonight^W tomorrow and get at least to the first Jobs.

This is really annoying. Wingraptor defends as his 3rd action. That means I can get 8 attacks in beforehand. Butz and Galuf do a max of 32 damage (Broadsword has attack 15, so the damage is 30 or 32). Lenna does a max of 20 (Knife has attack 7, so the damage is 14, 16, 18, or 20). Faris does a max of 34 (Dagger has attack 14, so the damage is 28, 30, 32, or 34). None of these weapons can crit (only barehands, katana, and bows can crit). That means I can do 236 damage before he transforms. He has 250 HP. (incidentally, barehands here don't help. They do 6 damage, 2 attacks, so 12 damage. Crit doubles this, so a double crit is 24 damage. Only Lenna can improve on this, and only by 8 damage, still leaving me 6 damage shy) I'm going to mess with battle speed settings and see if the algorithms guide lies about stuff and I can get three attacks with Faris before he transforms. Barring that this fight will be 6 rounds long instead of 2 and for no good reason. Edit: Algorithms guide lies. Like in FF6, battle speed affects how often enemies take turns. So I switch to 6 and this fight is fine. In the final version the battle speed will go to 6 and the message speed to 1 in the first menu access.

I need 2775 gil, short-term. I spend 150 in Tule and the rest in Karnak. Right now I have 640 (and a Phoenix Down). What's the best way to raise the rest? Which chests should I pick up and which should I ignore? And should I actually steal Ethers or Mythril Swords or not waste time doing that? Updated movie will be posted in a few minutes. EDIT: First 25 minutes. Ends in mid-plot-point because I wanted it to be exactly 25 minutes for some reason.

Why did you fight the monster-in-box in the newbie center?

To get Goblin Punch and levels 2/2/2/3. You'll see why. Actually I'm not doing anyhting important today so I'll continue until it becomes blaringly obvious.

But why the box-monster? Why not something else?

In the box the Goblin is alone, which = 10 EXP divided amoung 3 participants, levels 2/2/2/3 result. In a random encounter the Goblin will have two other Goblins (= 30 EXP) or two Killer Bees (= 40 EXP) divided amoung 4 participants, levels 3/2/2/3 result. Though now I wonder if I can do that instead of the battle with the Steel Bats in the cave and still keep Butz at level 2... EDIT: Yes. 2 Killer Bees + Goblin = 10 EXP each, and 10 is exactly what is required for level 2. 3 Steel Bats + Goblin = 12 EXP each for Butz, Lenna, Galuf and 0 EXP for Faris. So in the final run, a random battle outside Tule will be fought instead of the Steel Bats and the lengthy sequence required for the monster-in-a-box.

You'll see in a little bit. I'm about 32 minutes in and the reason should be apparent around 36 minutes or so.

Tule is the first town. After the pirates and before the Siren. And this is just a proof-of-concept video.. I'm sure someone with more patience and skill at luck manipulation can do it better ^_^;; I'm just showing a path and testing possibilities.

I hope you will reconcider that and that you will finish this run ;) Still, you are doing a great job. If you don't finish it I will eventually. Even if it takes me 2 years!

Two more bosses. 37 minutes total. There's 2000 gil in the basement of Walse Castle, but is it worth it to walk all the way there? But I don't know where else to get the money that would be faster.

Scrolling through menus is bad. So I'm changing Cursor mode to Memory, which should be done on the first menu access. Also, changing Lenna from Black Mage is bad, as she doesn't really help in the battle VS Siren + the next battle requires Blizzard (because UndeadRusk doesn't appear except inside a ship, which is too far to walk) + the battle after that requires a rod break. ..and speaking of Blizzard, that needs to be bought at the first magic shop for another 150 gil. So I am doing: changing to Memory changing Lenna back to Black Mage buying Blizzard, getting Antidote & Ice Rod killing Tatu x2 to get to 3/3/3/4 climbing the mountain killing Magisa (see what I mean by proof-of-concept video? I'm making all of the mistakes now so the final version uses the optimum strategy :-þ )

Sounds good. Later on I can hopefully (if you don't already know about it) toss out some ideas regarding job usage. I think that red wizard would be pretty useless for example since that job cannot cast the strongest black and white magics.

I better add some thoughts of job usage while it's on my mind. When you got the thief job you should have one character using that almost all the time, not for good fighting power and not for detecting secret passages (duh) but for the speed of it. When someone is a thief they will run faster. Also for brute force the knight is the best I think. Maybe combined with ninja for 4x-slash. But that could be hard to get because that will require some AP points. Also, would it be a good idea to get Mimic? One thing that would be awesomely cool is to beat him with force! I have never done this since he is incredible hard! Atleast he was when I fought him. The blue knight (is it knight?) could be good because he can learn good magics. I unfortunately have very little knowledge in this since I like to beat enemies rather then kill them with magic. But they talk about doom lv.5 so it can't be that bad I suppose ;) That's what I can think of right now...

Yes, but Red Mage can cast two spells per turn. But anyway there are better ways to spend 1159 ABP. Lots of !Hanatsu (!Release) attacks are deadly. !Chougou (!Mix) is a must. !Yobidasu (!Call) means no MP for any Summon spell in the game. Of course, !Nageru (!Throw) is essential, and Nitouryuu (2-sword Style) would be nice to have but is expensive. !Midareuchi (!Scattershot) would be nice but it costs a lot of ABP and Archer is generally useless except for it. !Mahouken (!Sword) and !Zeninage (!Cointoss) are also very nice. Casting strong black and white magic generally wouldn't help, even if strong black magic will be learned for !Mahouken. Anyway the most useful attacks are a combination of blue magics and !Chougou. Manipulate levels until L5 Death. EDIT: Actually Blue is all you need. Even level: L2 Old, L5 Death Odd level: Black Shock, L2 Old, L5 Death

The blue mage might be a bit tricky to use. Remember that you have to have the mage actually get hit by the spell, so battles might end up with the heroes standing like an idiot while the enemy constantly uses the wrong attack, and if it does use the spell it might end up not even hitting the blue mage. The Mystic Knight would be really handy, sword magic is uber powerful. Would you have time to get !Sshot? It'd be so awesome to have but I'm not sure of any way to get the AP needed quickly... Well this post got obsoleted quickly due to Boco's posting while I was typing. Bah.
