This run aims for the fastest completion time in 1p very hard mode. I used the characther yoshi, instead of the common choice , fox. I Tas'ed two test runs before this one and i got to the conclusion that yoshi beats the game in a faster time than fox.
stage 1 : link - Not much seen here i used DJC to get him quickly to the edge and finished with FAIR. Couldn't use less DJC's and i had to manipulate link's DI in the right direction or no direction at all.
stage 2 : yoshi - painfull one, but i got an excelent run, the yoshis fell in favorable position's for the DTILTS which is the only technique that is able to 1 hit Ko them without a star finish on very hard mode.
stage 3 : Fox - re did this from the beggining about 7 times and finally managed to manipulate him to do a left roll which saved me from having to use a grab and saved a few frames. As for the DJCs, beautifull combo and got perfectly timed with the spike in the end
stage 4 : Mario bros. - Maybe the best stage in the whole run, got both the brothers in the same position allowing me to combo them exactly at the same time and saved a lot of frames.
stage 5: Pikachu - had a problem with the start. pikachu would come to the left side of the stage no matter what i did, i had to wait for him to do a dash attack so i could start the DJC. Just after the first NAIR pikachu did a roll to the right which helped a lot and saved 1 DJC, the last FAIR had to be delayed 1 frame in order for pikachu to die quicker saving another 7 frames.
stage 6: DK - Much faster than the usual fox strategy. Beating DK with 2 eggs was very quick, fast falling and delaying the last B allowed DK to die while still inside the egg and that was enough to get the time counter from 4:55 to 4:56.
stage 7 :kirby team - Another perfect stage. Killing the first kirby with a spike made the "mario kirby" come to the left platform and allowing me to manipulate the other kirbys in the same position.
stage 8 : samus - the strategy used was the one i found to be fastest but no matter what i changed in the whole run i had to waste 1 frame before starting running or else she would shoot the energy ball, having to jump early to avoid it, parrying it or anything was slower than wasting 1 frame.
stage 9 : metal mario - same as DK. metal mario dies faster because of his super weight.
stage 10 :polygon team - painfull one, manipulation all the polygons in the same position is very hard. Managed to manipulate a snorlax from a pokeball to kill 4 polygons before they could reach the floor.
final stage - Master hand went just as planned without modifications from my test runs. Just used a diferent manipulation using yoshi's second jump to hit the floor instead of falling normally, both takes the same ammount of frames.
bonus stages: the bonus stages are something that made yoshi an "unfavorable characther" but the improvements in the run make up for the time lost here.

mmbossman: In general, fighting games usually do not make good TASes when speed is the primary goal. The problem usually stems from having to use one or two strategies repeated over and over in order to achieve the fastest time. While this may impress people who are knowledgeable about the game, it tends to be monotonous for the average viewer, which I think the voting for this movie, along with the resulting discussion, has demonstrated.
Most of the fighting games with runs currently published focus on showing off, while still aiming to be moderately fast. I believe that this game also fits that mold; it is preferable to show off much of what the game has to offer while sacrificing some time for the benefit of more entertainment. While I acknowledge the fact that this will be an unpopular decision with some people, I believe that this game works better as a TAS when it focuses on entertainment. Therefore, I am rejecting this submission in favor of this submission.

adelikat: Unrejecting this submission for consideration into the Vault tier.
Nahoc: Added YT module.
Nahoc: Judging...
Nahoc: Rejecting this movie since it is clearly un-optimal by today's standards. An already faster TAS by DennisBalow using Kirby has been posted on YouTube in 2009. A new and faster submission using (most likely Kirby) would probably be accepted for the vault tier. Until then, it is meaningless to publish this as it fails to beat known records.

Very impressive! I loved how you chained the NAIRs into spikes, but I especially liked the master hand fight. If any SSB run should be published, it's this one.

Are you guys kidding me?! I thought this was extremely boring. Same moves over and over and over. Skips the targets and platforms. The only remotely likeable part was the master hand. The goals of this movie don't follow the same goals that fighting games usually do. Strong no vote.

Aside from the Snorlax, this was incredibly repetitive and unentertaining after the first match. That being said, I'm voting No.

Presumably, not using any attacks slower than the optimal one in an as-fast-as-possible run is clever. Now whether it is entertaining is another question.

It was really clever when he used the Nair over and over and over until he could spike them with the Fair just like he did the fight before!

It was very entertaining for me. Voted Yes.
You're just fucking stupid, everyone hates you, sorry to tell you the truth. no one likes you, you're someone pretentious and TASes only to be on speed game, but don't have any hope, you won't get there.

Ugh, your views of entertaining are horrible in my opinion. Have any of you guys seen antd's youtube channel? Now THAT'S entertainment in SSB. Why can't we have runs with incorporations of that sort of style?

I have only played SSB very briefly, but it managed to piss me off quite a bit, so I was impressed by the speed and ludicrous ease with which the game is beaten. Though, I would have preferred if the bonus rounds were completed, I.E, no big "FAILURE" screen. :p It's good, either way. Voting Yes.

Although there are things more entertaining, even this TAS is probably entertaining enough to be published imo. I do wonder quite a bit about the quality... is it perfect? The TAS looks to me (like most N64 TASes) like it's TASed till the wanted result was achieved, and that version was taken. It doesn't look like everything that could possibly the fastest was tested... and this also shows a bit in the rerecord count. Especially the team yoshi battle and the end of the polygon team battle made me wonder if I was watching perfection, or just a version that looked ok. I still think it would be nice if an SSB TAS included tool assisted world records of all characters at break the targets and board the platforms. And that link Raiscan posted showed that this TAS misses out on a lot of potentially very entertaining things this game offers... a 2 player or (dare I say) 4 player playaround would probably look awesome. Hmm, this is a hard one, I do think there should be an SSB TAS, but I wonder if this is the one. I'll vote meh since I want to open up the site to SSB TASes, and wouldn't mind if this got published... but I think the run both lacks in entertainment and accuracy.

Generally speaking, aiming for fastest time is not a good goal for fighting games, and you have showed why with this submission. There is usually one or two devastating moves/combos that need to be used extensively, but unfortunately the repetition of such a tactic tends to be boring. All of the fighting games that have published runs on the site aim to show off and provide entertaining moves/combos/glitches that aren't possible to do in real life. While I understand that a movie of this caliber isn't possible in real life, it doesn't provide the variety and entertainment that is showcased in the other published movies of this type. Voting no.

The run had potential but it felt like it wasn't completely optimized, as Baxter said. The FAILURE parts were also kind of grating in the fact that they felt out of place; you should have tried to complete the bonus levels. However, the run entertained me, so I wouldn't vote no. I'd give it a "meh" if I could vote.

The only reason this movie is semi-enjoyable is because everyone played SSB and it was an awesome game. The run itself, whether or not it is optimized, was not very entertaining to me.

I am going to be completely serious here. Sure, this movie is repetitive at times. Any by that, I mean fairly often. But the same can be said about many other TASes, can it not? There are a number of TASes which abuse fast but repetitive strategies that are already on the site. There are even a number of them that are just plain repetitive. Take Battletoads for example - almost half the game is forced scrolling in some fashion, and despite trying to be entertaining during those parts, it eventually gets to the point where it is really annoying (moreso in the warpless runs than in the warping ones). And they still got published. Someone here, I forgot who, once mentioned that Super Metroid runs all basically use the same route, except with slightly different tricks or more optimized movement (usually barely noticeable), which makes them repetitive as an overall whole. Yet, people still go crazy over and improvement there. I cannot think of any more at the time being, but there definitely are more out there. There is no point of putting off a game such as this one for no real reason. Besides, this game is long overdue for a published TAS. Reptitive or not, there is always the frame wars to look forward to. Not to mention we could have a playaround run for entertainment purposes as well. It is time to put our opinions of repetitiveness aside and finally do what should have been done a long time ago. Yes. Publish this movie.

Theres a key difference with this movie; SSB has other moves that can be used, and has the potential to be non-repetitive. This is what other fighting games do, and why they are entertaining.

That may be true, but you have to keep in mind that most other fighting games I have seen TASed, such as Mortal Kombat II, have so many other options that it is not funny. Super Smash Bros., on the other hand, does not have a character like Shang Tsung, and therefore has to work with characters who are more one-dimensional. I can understand your concerns with it being repetitive while aiming for speed, sure. But speed and entertainment are often two different goals. You can sometimes have them together, but they often conflict with one another. The reason why I mentioned "looking forward to" the frame wars was in reference to the Super Metroid comment. Since people seem to enjoy an improvement of a few frames on some games, no matter how identical it is to the previous version, the same could be said about this one (in theory). Therefore, what I was proposing, is that we have two versions of this movie. One, that aims for the fastest time possible, without any care for entertainment whatsoever (i.e. using repetitive strategies if necessary). And two, a movie that aims to entertain in the strategy. We have yet to see the latter created, but until that time comes, we will always have the former. It does not matter what order they get published in, since the same result will be acheived in the end. I am sure that this compromise of having both types of movies on the site will satisfy the needs of all but the most stubborn of members.

Yeah, this is how I feel about the run. Some methods used to kill several polygons looked a little sub-optimal to me and that there could be a little improvement. Also the same method of killing the enimies got a little old, but I still found it entertaining. Lastly, skipping BtT and BtP wasnt entetaining at all, at least in my opinion. A meh vote from me. I liked the run, but I think it could be more entertaining.
