This movie is a full, no-wall-sinking run of Harmony of Dissonance using Maxim. Rather than beat Dracula in under 24 seconds, instead each boss is thrashed to a pile of wailing pulp, and the game is beaten "as intended" in order to show off more of what Maxim can do. What constitutes as intended in this run is debatable, since Maxim zooms through the castle faster than Sonic on espresso, and sends shurikens ripping through boss flesh before they realize they have even spawned.

Rules:

In essence, the only rule is to not get into the walls and 'wall sink' (aka zip vertically and warp to far away places.) I found this only restriction to work very well in helping defining the run. Whip launches could still be used to gain insane speeds and pass through walls occassionally, but the way we did it was with no wall zipping, only passing through walls without warping.
Door warping was used, but it seems that with only using that glitch, you can't get straight to Dracula. It's only used a few times, and saves backtracking, so I think it's ok. If the judges have a problem with it, let me know and I'll try to find a way to phrase it better or something.

Misc

This run started out when I finished the glitched Maxim run, and kept requesting/suggestion a full run with Maxim. The truth is that no matter how beefed up Juste gets, Maxim is the superior vampire hunter with better abilities and faster speeds. Maxim has been itching to demonstrate his skills without using 1337 hax to warp straight to Dracula. ANYONE can do that, but only Maxim can defeat all the bosses with style, panache, and pure machismo.
I never quite got started due to a lack of route. I tried using a picture of the two castles to make a route, but never got started. Then, out of nowhere ljffdb2 made a test run following a route that zggzdydp made. The test run was very rough in terms of precision, but the overall speed exactly foreshadowed what a full maxim run would look like. I started over from the beginning, using the new route, and stopped at around frame 2360 (because, get this, I actually forgot how to whip launch off of enemies. I had kept forgetting to not press left or right when doing the down kick). I handed over the .vbm to zggzdydp with the general message "here, have fun." I'd completely forgotten about it, when zggzdydp handed me back the .vbm about 2/3rds done with the run, and asked if I could finish it. How could I refuse? So I picked up from frame 30867, and completed it.
Now the run is not 100% perfect (but for the most part is it quite optimal). There's a few errors here and there, and better shuriken/magic management could save some time. I got careless a few times and almost ran out of shurikens for the bosses. I was nearly out of magic after the skull knight boss, and really began panicking that I wouldn't have enough magic to use Maxim's Mirage on Dracula. It all worked out in the end, and I ended up with 0 hearts. But I'm sure more hearts could have been collected with no time lost, because as I show shurikens have their uses besides just for bosses.
But this was fun to make (especially with a fair amount of it done for me hehe), and turned out to be 1 minute and 57 seconds faster than ljffdb2's test run. If I have the time, I'd love to do a more in-depth run with zggzdydp, getting competitive to squeeze out more frames saved, rather than the movie being handed over to the other author twice.

If you watch really closely, the "Lizard's Tail" room is loaded for a few brief frames, but the graphics are all glitched up. Maxim is not entering a wall, getting stuck, zipping up then warping to a very far away place; rather, he is whip launching constantly, and it just so happens that he has enough speed (36 pixels per frame) to pass right through the room (but not warp past it.) The door to the Living Armor is a raising door; normally, you cannot glitch past those because the current room will freeze your current position; in other places of the run you can see this happening. However, Maxim is going so fast (because he had enough room to attain 36 pixels per frame) that he is in the next room before the "freeze Maxim"action can take place. I hope that explains things.

I don't really get this logic. 8 runs / 3 games is not the same as 6 runs / 6 games, right? Anyways, I don't think that "having too many movies" is a terrible thing. This is a good fast movie (albeit a bit repetitive) that embodies much of what TASvideos is about to me: speed, glitches and route planning.

A year ago you PM'ed me about this run and I didn't think you'd really go ahead and bother making it. It's not as bad as I thought it'd be. Seeing Maxim blaze through the castle this fast is kind of neat. The boss battles are as boring as I feared though.

That's really a great run. When I saw the test run by ljffdb2 long ago, I told myself, wow, that's an amazing route! How can he think out of it?! Now, thanks to the two great player, this perfect movie was finally finished. I love the speed. It's a feast of seeing. What a pity. I'm not able to vote, or I'll doubtless click the yes.

I like this run but I disagree with the "no warps" description, since you clearly use a door glitch to warp to another room and you use that flying backwards move to pass through certain rooms at warp speed. How about "defeats all bosses?" As I recall, Maxim doesn't even need to fight all the bosses to fight Dracula, just a select few. So you went out of your way to lay waste to every serious monster in the castle and then destroyed Dracula himself (what's left of him).

Well as far as I understood the restriction was not really to disallow going through walls or being in walls, the restriction was not to perform warp glitches (which involves being in walls). I think that it is not to arbitrary.
The "defeats all bosses" category would not work well for this run, as you can use wall warps to get to each boss extremely fast, as was already mentioned (and seen here). Given that the wall warping is a very specific and definable glitch involving being transported to far away places, while the other techniques shown in the run involve using very fast speeds, I believe that the category is appropriate. Also, I'm not sure if the door glitch that you refer to is the one explained by Comicalflop 8 posts above yours, but if it's not, I'm sure he or zggzdydp can help explain it further. However, I do not have much knowledge of the game and it's physics, so I can only go off of what others have told me.

Let's see.... About the best way I can describe it is this: There are 3 types of what you would call "warps". -Door Warps (backdash through a door, and warp to a middle area of that level.) -Wall Sinking (where you whip launch into the wall, and zip up, and warp to extremely far away places seemingly at random.) -Going through walls with whip launching. Door warps were used very infrequently, and only to prevent back tracking. They cannot warp you to really far away places. Wall sinking was avoided entirely. Going through walls was done once, because there was enough room to reach over 36 pixels per frame speed. Now, here's the reasoning for what's included and what's not. Mostly, it's: "any warp that allows instant, direct access to Dracula is not allowed." And that's pretty much it. Door Warping cannot allow instant access to Dracula, since you can only warp into the same level and only after you've visited it once. It's used to save backtracking only. Going through walls is nice and all, but YOU DO NOT WARP AT ALL. (see my above post with the pretty pictures.) You can't use this method to get to Dracula, since all it does is skip past rooms fast without opening the doors. It's fast, but not warping. Wall Zipping is essential to the Warped Maxim movie, and thus is not used. An "All bosses run" would use Wall Zipping, to get from one boss to the next as fast as possible. It would more closely resemble the Bosh Rush, which is what this movie is not supposed to be. If you could get inside the walls and zip and warp, why not go directly to Dracula? I hope this answers your questions. Any more that rise up, I am always free to respond to.

What I like about this movie: — Extreme speed. Applied at nonlinear environment, map traversing look great. — Some of the more spectacular boss fights. What I didn't like: — Extreme repetition. Maxim's attacks and characteristics never change, so he's dramatically overpowered compared to every single boss in the game. The bosses are either beaten too fast, or just the same way as others (spinjump-shuriken-sword). — The warping restrictions are at best arbitrary. You don't go through walls, but use other kinds of glitched warps. Go figure.

My suggestion for recategorizing the two published Maxim runs: * This run: simply "Maxim" (or "Maxim version" if you prefer a longer name) * The other run: "Maxim warp glitch" The encodes may need updating if the movies are recategorized, though.
