Does button mashing in any of the Pokemon games have any effect whatsoever on catch rate? Theoretically it doesn't, but maybe there's something in the code that I don't know about because I didn't take apart the ROM myself? Probably not. EDIT: Also did holding A make an attack deal more damage? In case you're wondering, I'm not asking these questions for myself.

I often wondered about that. Supposedly, pressing A at the right time increased damage of attacks AND chances of a successful capture.

Assuming the RNG used by the game is based on the timing of user keypresses, wouldn't that be logical?

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it doesn't change the success rate of catching Pokemon. Whether you catch a Pokemon is determined when you press the button to throw the pokeball. I'm not so sure though. EDIT: http://glitchcity.info/docs/myths The last part.

I think it was meant that it would always increase damage and chances... if it was merely an RNG advance, it would decrease them randomly as well.

I suppose contacting FractalFusion or primoral#soup would be a good way to find out.

From my experience none of these tricks worked. Using Super Balls instead of Hyper Balls on strong Pokémon helped sometimes though. xD
