About the run

This is a completely new run which aims for the absolutely lowest realtime, aims to fight no bosses and it also finishes with the absolutely lowest possible number of items, 6. The run in general has been made possible by Kejardon, who discovered both the early tourian break in (though not as early as in this run) and the Motherbrain skip. You can read about his discovery in http://forum.metroid2002.com/index.php/topic,6016.0.html this thread, he has a big explanation on page 2, so go and read it. Entering Tourian without the speedbooster nor enough ammo for a CF was discovered by hero of the day, the mockball has a very big "boomerang" effect when turning around and then immediately turning back again which made him think that it was possible to use in order to get Samus lodged far enough into the door for the skip to work, and it evidently did. Note that any weird actions before entering a door, or entering a door in a seemingly suboptimal way is done to reduce door lag.
The run is completed in 00:12:35 ingame and in 22:01 in realtime (79271 frames). And you might want to fast forward the X-ray climbing when going in to tourian, it is about 3,5-4 minutes long.

Thanks to

Kejardon for discovering the glitches to make the run possible. gstick for a making a testrun (10%) which was used as a reference in tourian.
And the rest. moozooh, Tonski, catnap222 Saturn, Kriole, Taco, JXQ, evilchen, namespoofer, Terimakasih, Michael Flatley, Frenom and possibly someone else I forgot.

now where did this come from? pleasant surprise, I'll hit the yes button after watching :) edit: bonus points for excellent energy management, avoiding the speed booster (and thus the pause trick), finally letting the metroid know what hit 'em and wrecking every room on tourian even before the bomb went off. But I have to deduct a couple of points for slightly missing the announced 100% goal. :p still, yes vote. A worthy successor to the old low%.

Well, I have nothing to say here. I certainly didn't expect the Tourian break-in you did here, and I didn't know you could manipulate Metroid drops with such ease using X-ray. As a whole, it is NBMB, true low% and true any% all at the same time without sacrificing one another. The only bad thing about it is that pre-X-ray room is pretty much the only groundbreaking part of the actual gameplay. Yes vote. As for the obsoletion, obsolete the 14% run.

That's what I can call sequence breaking, with good conscience.

Well I'd say that the baby metroid skip is pretty neat to.

True, forgot about it. The pre-X-ray room is still the most amazing part, both ways.

I don't know what I just watched, but it certainly wasn't Super Metroid. Yes vote.

Very interesting run. Easy decision to obsolete the previous low %, but I guess now there will have to be some disclaimers added to the descriptions of both the real and ingame runs. The first half was pretty standard, but once the save/restart sequence started, it was full of wtf. Yes vote.

Okay, a real question now: do you need to actually die in the spike room in order to make the warp work? Only loading it is required, which means you can reset the game immediately after it does so, saving another ~500 frames.

According to Kejardon no reset is allowed to take place between entering the room up to entering MB's room. Dieing or watching the ingame demo is the only way.

Super Metroid bores me to death. One reason why is everyone is always fighting over frames; each run looks exactly the same to me as a direct result of this, and the routes are always the same (or changes in route I will not notice). This run is way shorter, and only a toddler could miss the differences from this to the other published runs. Essentially many reasons why I hate SM TASes aren't present here, so I'm appreciative of that. But in the end, for all the stuff I was hearing about a NBMB being boring as sin, this was quite impressive and something new to SM that I liked. The graphical glitches were quite pleasing for me to watch. Yes vote, I suppose.

Weak yes vote because the boring parts take a good chunk of the run.

Oh, those poor bosses. I can picture Kraid, sitting in his chamber... "Ah yeah, just gonna wait for that Samus chick to come here, engage in my ridiculously simple and predictable attack pattern and earn my keep and all that. Also, Holy Shit, the planet just exploded and I am dead."

It took a long time to set up the trick but the end result was worth it. Nice to see how broken this game can be. Yes vote.

I'm disappointed you didn't just warp to the ending sequence. What's next really? That the first escape sequence actually turns into the final one? Stunning. Yes?

The absence of boss fights depresses me a bit because I think they're awesome and this will obselete them, but I guess they will still be present in the 100% run, which is good enough. Great improvement. I love massive bame-greaking improvements.
