Well, since I already tested everything there is to test route and strategy wise for any run, I'm pretty sure I could tell you right away whether what you try is possible or not. Though if you plan it to be a surprise in case it works, and therefore don't want to spoil, I can perfectly understand it.

Yeah, as Kej said, you can't have more than 1 Super on screen. It was known for a long time.

I'm not sure if this is the place to post this, but I will anyways. I found a glitch while messing with the murder beam that caused the game to enter its final sequence. I'm not sure if this has been discovered yet or not, but I'll post it anyways. I figure it can be useful in a speedrun if you can skip motherbrain and tourian. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmeUGoxwn2s

That's already known for quite a long time and I think not worth it to use in a speedrun. And I don't know before mods will or won't do anything about it but can we have avatars like NameSpoofer's?

No, the resolution limit is 100x100.

Why not? Forgive me if I'm completely wrong, but that application of the murder beam looks huge. I mean, wouldn't you just need to acquire all the beams and maybe the speed booster + gravity suit (for the plasma), return to crateria, do murder beam and beat the game...? That would at least skip quite a few bosses and areas you normally have to visit in an any% run.

1. That's not murder beam, but space/time beam. 2. If you are to skip bosses, you don't need any of the beams to do that whatsoever. And it can be done much faster as well.

Well then why isn't there a "glitched" run of the game? And what exactly is the absolute fastest method to beat the game, in-game time estimation included...?

Because we're no longer working on it. :) (Not as in "won't ever be again", but "not going to do it now".) Normally it would beat the game under ~11-13 ingame minutes with 10% or less items. That's if skipping all bosses/minibosses and abusing the pause exploit to bypass the energy problems. A realtime-oriented run would likely have to fight Kraid for Varia and use it to retrieve Speed Booster from Norfair to avoid picking up extra items, using crystal flashes and the exploit (though it is unknown as to how much time it saves).

Here is Kejardon's SMV of demonstrating cruel breaking of this game. You will need the E rom, he was lazy and didn't want to deal with Torizo Skip on NTSC and such at the time. http://forum.metroid2002.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=6016.0;attach=1821 And here is the thread its posted in, if you care to read about it. http://forum.metroid2002.com/index.php/topic,6016.0.html

Uhm the torizo skip wasn't even known at that time so it's got nothing to do with laziness.

Morphball → Missiles → Bombs → Super Missiles → Speed Booster (through heavy pause screen abuse) → Power Bombs → X-ray Scope → Tourian (7% items collected). Rather long, impossibly tedious both to make and to watch.

I'm probably wrong, but I keep thinking that there may be a powerbomb somewhere in Norfair that can be received without super missiles. In addition, the kejardon movie didn't collect the speed booster.

Well you can't get to norfair without supers in the first place, and yes kejardon skipped the speedbooster but without it you have to do a crystal flash to enter tourian and that requires 2 missiles 2 super missiles and 3 power bombs, so that get's higher than 7% anyway.

I think the one behind off the room right behind Crocomire is only sealed with a Missile door, but not sure; I haven't played in a while. Also, question to Hero or Cpadolf: any word on how soon we can expect your guys's 100% run?

Croc itself is sealed by a green door, so taking powerbombs without supermissiles is 100% not an option.

It is being worked on but the progress isn't consistent, sometimes it can stand still for a long time so I can't really estimate when it will be done. And the run was restarted about a month ago since we decided to optimize door entries for realtime, and now we are almost at the place where we restarted v1 (having saved ~8 realtime seconds) which is about a quarter of the way. I wouldn't expect the run to be complete before the end of august.
